First wicket for Archer, hopefully he gets in the mood now.
Seems to sulking so far with not bowling earlier and then Stokes putting Saliva on the bowl so it had to be cleaned, just before he got the ball in hand.

Re: India v England 3rd test Ahmedabad
Not until they change the interpretation and don't hold your breath for that happening. Cricket still puts trust in the onfield umpires and they are correct more often than not.
Ah well, Jofra has struck, in spite of giving away 9 runs in 2 overs in taking over from Jimmy who conceded just 6 runs in 6 overs.
Sadly, we are going to struggle, however, I should continue commenting because there goes another one! 34-2!
Re: India v England 3rd test Ahmedabad
Grey areas in Cricket AND Football Ashington ?
Ball tracker predicts ball will hit bails but in Umpires Call Not Out because he originally calls Not Out & VAR in football saying your armpit is offside
What's it all coming too.
Desperate for a couple more wickets before end of play today.

Sadly it is the modern misconception that everything digital makes things better.Aclaret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 3:17 pmGrey areas in Cricket AND Football Ashington ?

Games were played, decisions accepted, argue about them in the pub afterwards and that was that, however, this is not enough for the modern fan who wants everything 100% correct in this perfect world in which we live!

Re: India v England 3rd test Ahmedabad
JImmy suffering again with Pope putting down a dolly off Kohli.
Re: India v England 3rd test Ahmedabad
Not England's day today it is fair to say.
Pope should have caught Kholi without doubt but everyone drops one at some point. Bad timing in this instance though unforutnately.
Not sure if it's because I've now got used to VAR but the decisions being made by the 3rd umpires from the footage provided certainly don't leave you convinced by any means.

Re: India v England 3rd test Ahmedabad
The guy on 3rd umpire in this game is poor. Making decisions far too quickly without looking at all angles. The stumping of Rohit looked like his foot was in the air. Not our day but Kohli now gone. A glimmer of hope?ClaretMat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 4:23 pmNot England's day today it is fair to say.

What struck me was that most of the 10,000 seem to be sat in fairly close proximity whilst the upper tiers and some other areas of the ground are virtually empty ?????????
Re: India v England 3rd test Ahmedabad
Before Jofra Archer made his debut I'm sure there were plenty of pundits/ex players talking him up as an all rounder? From what I've seen he looks absolutely clueless with the bat, in fact I'd have Jack Leach coming in ahead of him.

Every time he comes out to bat I hear ‘Jofra can hit a ball’ he then scores less than 10, I’m waiting for this quick 30/40 runs with the tail... we certainly don’t bat deep in this test

Re: India v England 3rd test Ahmedabad
It's fair to say that wasn't the best day for England was it, it started well with Joe winning the toss, and then went rapidly downhill afterwards.
Trying to pick any positives is tough, but Crawley showed why he should be opening, and he was the one English batsman that actually tried to keep the scoreboard ticking, and well he and Root were together it looked quite promising for a while, but the less said the better once they both departed, and it'll be incredibly tough to win the test from here, although that late wicket of Kohli offers hope of an England fightback, and I actually thought we bowled well, and with the rub of the green could have claimed another 2/3 wickets, but when you only post 112 first dig it doesn't leave the bowlers with much to play with, and if England are somehow going to plot a route back into this game, then we need to dismiss India for no more than 200 tomorrow, and with their batting depth that looks a tall order, and given the amount of wickets falling to spin (11 out of 13) it looks folly not to have played a 2nd frontline spinner, or even Root bowling a few more overs in the last session to see if he got any joy.
Leach has toiled away and he does pose a threat, but the major difference in the sides is England offer too many freebies, and also India have been proactive in looking for the quick singles to keep the board ticking and the strike rotating, neither of which England attempted in our innings.
I must admit that new look stadium is impressive, and it's great to finally watch a sporting event that genuinely feels like a sporting event.

The commentators mentioned him "playing his natural game" today. I did wonder what exactly his natural game is.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 7:24 pmEvery time he comes out to bat I hear ‘Jofra can hit a ball’ he then scores less than 10, I’m waiting for this quick 30/40 runs with the tail... we certainly don’t bat deep in this test

He's a genuine No. 12, so if Leach, Broad and Jimmy are batting below him, it doesn't say much for the selectors opinion of them!

Re: India v England 3rd test Ahmedabad
Jofra in an ODI or 20/20 setting can be a dangerous player with the bat, but at test level he looks a fish out of water.
Mind you he was 4th top scorer today, behind Crawley, Root and Foakes, but I'd humbly suggest that says more about England's feeble batting rather than Jofra's ability with the willow.

Sharma gone lbw to Leach 115/5
Leach has 4, makes the decision to go with 1 spinner seem even worse the more the game goes on

Excellent by Root.
15 balls 3 wickets 0 runs 0 full tosses.
We might have found our no.1 off spinner.

Thought for the day. If England had picked Bess, as they should have done on this pitch, Root would probably not have bowled. It’s a funny old game.

Re: India v England 3rd test Ahmedabad
I’ve just watched that Root review. That he was given out on the field I’m amazed it was overturned.
