No surprise, said in his press conference that Paul Cook was sat in his office.

Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
they are in a takeover it seems and apparently Paul Cool is being lined up for the role

Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
Not a big surprise. Wasn’t happy with him with the Alan Judge diving incident which resulted in that ref Darren ? losing it somewhat after being pushed too far. Lambert chose to make a big issue of this to deflect his shortcomings as a manager.
Excellent footballer in his day, poor manager.

Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
He did an outstanding job at Norwich ten years ago, but I think his time at Villa really scarred him. 3 very short tenures at Blackburn, Wolves, and Stoke and then another difficult job at Ipswich with regards to the owner being totally disinterested like at Villa.
Might be time for him to hang up his tactics board.

Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
Genuine question.
Is that really what happened or if it what Burnley fans wanted to read? Is there any proof?
How do we know he was just telling the truth, that he didn't think it was right we approached him whilst with another club?

Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
Burnley made an approach, Lambert said he was willing to listen to our offer, his club said they really valued him and said they’d improve his contact - so he agreed an improved contract.
I don’t know why that’s such a bad thing.

Fair play to him,he's still managed more clubs than Chris Waddle

Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
The club sought permission to speak with him, which was denied by Norwich. Usually by that stage something is happening in the background. It didn’t come off which is Norwich we’re entitled to do, he then negotiated a better deal.superdimitri wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 5:12 amGenuine question.

To answer your questions, there is perhaps an element of Burnley bias so you do read what you want to read although he had previous in the way he left Colchester. He did improve his contract he signed a new one in June 2010
We approached him January 2011. He then signed another contract in the May of 2011.
Was he telling the truth? Again we are in the realms of speculation, but managers are approached when they are managing other clubs all the time, maybe there was something in it, why would we make approach and have it denied if there wasn’t an element of something in it.

Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
No problem with Lambert .... ever since he activated a " Release Clause " in his contract at Ewood Park, and left just 6 months into his tenure .....
A rare example of a Club effectively being " fired " by the Manager !!

Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
From what happened he had accepted the job at Burnley and told Norwich he was leaving. Then there was that strange press conference at Norwich after which he suddenly signed a new deal.superdimitri wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 5:12 amGenuine question.

Yes, it was really what happened and no, it wasn't just what Burnley fans wanted to read.

January and then signed in May. You could argue that would have happened anyway. Maybe Burnley fans are lambasting him for not doing a Coyle to Norwich?MrTopTier wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 8:13 amThe club sought permission to speak with him, which was denied by Norwich. Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
Whenever I think back to the brief Waddle era here my heart sinks when I remember Moore at centre half.
We got him from Everton I think and he was captain, he was so useless at defending.

Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
It's the Chelsea syndrome really, they often go for the flavour of the month when they are appointing a new manager and for our club, hovering around the play off places in January 2011, he looked as good a bet as we were going to get and I don't think many would have argued had we got him. As it happened, he stayed at Norwich, won them promotion and then kept them in the Premier League in the following season before making the mistake of moving to Villa. It's not been too good for him since.

Re: Lambert gone at Ipswich
What he did to us was naughty, but I cannot see how joining us would have gone any better than his decision to join Norwich... he had success while we were far from where we are as a club now.
