Paul Cook in at Ipswich

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Mar 02, 2021 12:08 pm

Paul Cook confirmed as Lambert's successor at Ipswich.

I'll get something on site this afternoon.

Great opportunity for Cook. Hopefully he can do a few years and add to his reputation, which hopefully is more than a stopgap measure for both parties.l was a big fan of Paul’s and hope he continues to do well at the Tractor boys.

There's a lot of work for him to do yet before there should be any mention of him becoming our next Manager.

With no disrespect, you would hope not. He's been out of work since the end of last season during which time two Premier League clubs, eight in the Championship and eight in League One prior to Ipswich before landing a job. Not sure why that would qualify him to take over as our next manager.

He played for us and we have previous for employing a former player who isn't up to the job :D

It's an obsession with some for bringing back ex-players. I still recall when Stan was leaving in 2004 and there was a clamour from some on the message board to give the job to Chris Brass who had, whatever the circumstances, just taken York out of the Football League.

Our fans have some strange obsessions. My two favourite obsessions are insisting on playing players out of position and overhyping players who have pace thinking it makes them a good player.

Football appeals to our deepest tribal instincts...we stay connected to those that we perceive as being part of the tribe

You need to have players with pace in in order to over hype them.

I've not followed Paul Cook's managerial career to be honest, but the way some fans talk about him potentially managing us one day I assumed he was a promising upstart. I've just looked at his Wikipedia page and realised that not only is he 54 (5 years older than SD), he's been a manager since 2007  I mean, I'm sure he's a decent manager but based on his career to date I'm not sure I'd want him in consideration for the Burnley job should SD ever leave.

I'd have you know Dane Richards was a very good player, just not managed correctly as Eddie Howe never played for Burnley ;)

Dane Richards was without doubt the fastest player ever to play for Burnley.
No one has left more quickly :D

He's losing 0-1 at Stanley, but I'm not sure if he's officially in charge yet.

Edit...1-1
