No arguments with any of that, EXCEPT the assumption that we will get 3 points from somewhere. We were leading twice against average to poor teams these last 2 weeks and got nowt because we seem far too open. I can't see us nicking a goal and then hanging on and seeing out crappy, scrappy games at the moment.
We have got three points in our last three games though.

The last 2 games were against poorer opposition and we even took the lead and still blew it. Fulham away and Sheffield Utd away now look like our best chance of getting a win, so it really is time to panic. The rest of our fixtures look daunting to say the least and more so with the way we're shaping up defensively right now.

The arguments on here are getting desperate. It all depends which Burnley turn up in the next 7 games. If its the resilient one that fight and play as a team we will do it comfortably. I just hope its just not the team that can just so easily put a winless run together. We need to trust in SD's mental strength

Is there anything stopping us from reverting to type in the last seven matches, and grinding out a few points?

I know we aren't totally safe but the way some posters talk on here it's as though they'd prefer to be where West Brom and Fulham are as it appears they have a far better chance staying up than we do.
Nail on the head, and if we were where West Brom and Fulham are with their remaining fixtures most people on here would expect us to go down, so why should it be any different for them.

We probably need 1 win from 7 games, or maybe a couple of draws, whereas both west brom and Fulham need to win 3/4 out of 6/7 games they have remaining.

I know which scenario I prefer, yes we've lost the last 2, but we have showed plenty in both those games to suggest we'll pick up enough points over the remaining weeks of the season to be fine, no matter what the others do.

Fulham have lost their last 4, and have a tricky run-in, and even though WB have won their last 2 they still have a 9 point deficit to surmount, and their GD is shocking to boot.

I am far from assuming we will get the points we need. We seem unable to get players fit and without a doubt Nick Pope has to be fully fit. He is vital to our survival

If we can grind out a draw at Man Utd that would be a great motivator for the team

He’s not far wrong - our recent displays suggest survival based on the failings of others as opposed to, as it should have been, moving ourselves outside of the danger zone.

There’s a lot of work to be done for next season to give ourselves a better chance of not scraping by.

Relegations what you need: If you wannnna be a record breaker

4 years for a first post, deserves a dews weeks ban.

Reckon we are fine, but I’d be feeling much more comfortable with a fit Ashley Barnes in the squad.

I doubt anyone would argue there isn't plenty of work to do in the close season to improve our chances of an easier campaign next year.

But it's worth remembering prior to our last 2 reverses we had only lost 1 in 8, and just gone to Goodison and won a well earned 3 points, with probably our best display of the season, and we should have learnt by now with don't have a divine right to win any game at this level, any victories always have to be scrapped for, and if we can get that mentality back into the fans and players we'll be fine, idk if complacency has set in or not, but if that was the case then the last 2 defeats should have firmly chased those thoughts away.

Perhaps.

I would ask some of our fans whether survival on 10 points, playing absolute rubbish, would be seen as successful if 3 teams ended up on 9 points?
Extreme, I accept, but you get my drift.

I think the fan base is split to be honest, there are a growing number of fans that arnt bothered if we stay in the premier league. We are a tiny fish in a big pond, 95% of our games are a difficult watch as a result.

I can understand the attraction of dropping down to the league below, it would allow us to compete a bit better and hopefully play better football. However, I think for the long term security of the club it would be catastrophic

Ultimately, this is the most worried I've been regarding us surviving in the PL at any time over the past 5 seasons. Our form has nosedived at just the wrong time, we have niggling injuries to key players, we're struggling against the teams in and around us, our normally excellent defensive shape looks shot to bits, we have mainly extremely tough games between now and the end of the season and in some respects we look something of busted flush. Plus the strength of the "collective" and of SD to get blood out of the proverbial doesn't seem quite right any more. Maybe I'm wrong and I seriously hope I am, but far too often this season we really haven't looked good enough to stay up. If we don't it will completely wreck any hopes and plans we had for a great and uplifting summer window!! Plus io really do want the new owners to have the opportunity to show exactly what they are made of and if we go down I fear we really won't. (If we stay up we might not either, but....)

Survival with no entertainment? Being 4th bottom however bad that might be? Not really what I want from my club.

I don't want us to drop obviously, but I can see why just scrapping survival every year can quickly become draining.

And TBH if it wasn't for the financial benefit I'd quite happily agree with that POV, however it's only due to the PL riches that we've been able to invest in the academy, and hopefully even when we're relegated or SD has finally left for pastures new, then this will be a long-lasting legacy of our PL years.

But in reality we're never going to be able to compete with the really big boys unless we somehow attract a rich benefactor, and even one of those is no guarantee of success, and could ultimately even lead to the club losing it's identity, so it's a tough task we face just to maintain our current lofty status, but we're not alone in this, this reality applies to many clubs unfortunately, and it's this widening of the gap between the clubs with a huge global reach, and the rest who are just attempting to somehow keep up with the joneses that is causing a lot of disillusionment in the fanbases of many clubs, we even see it on this forum from time to time, and I can fully understand how greed could ultimately kill the game we all love.

Would you really describe just 2 defeats after picking up 5 points against Arsenal, Leicester and Everton as our form nosediving?

It’s difficult to care when every game is a glorified pre season friendly, VAR is terrible, no fans makes it look pointless, players diving/blatantly cheating becoming worse by the week. Not checked the table for weeks till today, we’re safe on to the next one.

I wouldn't disagree with that.
I just find the attitude of so many now being "as long as there's 3 worse than us that's OK" a bit hard to take.

I know, but that seems to be the mentality from plenty on here. As early as October we have people talking about "how many more points needed to be safe". Then there's our attitudes towards the cups.
I'm not blaming anyone at the club I suppose, the money at the top end has basically killed the competition. Look at the Champions league, 3 of the last 4 are City, PSG and Chelsea.

Nothing special.
I don't actually expect the team to do much better than 17th, but i have issue with posters who don't appear to care how we achieve it.

While you're entitled of course to look on the black side, I really can't understand how this can be the worst you have felt in the past five years. It can't even (logically, at least - but we don't have to be logical of course!) be the worst you have felt this season. We had a far worse run early on, when we lost 1-3 to Newcastle and 0-1 to Southampton and both performances were much worse than the recent ones. This recent two -match run is nowhere near the worst 2-match run we have had under Dyche.

I honestly don’t think it’d make a difference, you can clearly state something 1 week & the next week state something exactly the opposite & still find ways of justifying the original statement despite the contrary.

I always say at the beginning of a season that 17th would be good enough but I don't really mean it!

I hope we don't have another one behind closed doors because we will be gone and all the investment in Academies and Women's teams will be amongst the first casualties once the money stops.

It's the worst I've felt because for some reason, for all our trials and tribulations over the past 5 seasons, I've always found a grain of optimism somewhere along the way, but all of a sudden I'm really struggling and feel we really do look a busted flush. We'll get nowt today and we'll be hoping to God Arsenal do us a favour and beat Fulham and I increasingly feel in my bones that this season will end heartbrakingly badly. I'm not one of those who thinks always looking for 3 worse teams than us from the very first match of the season is any way to go or to enjoy our footy, but this season more than any I just pray there actually are 3 even worse teams who finish below us as with the new board I'm genuinely expecting serious incoming during the summer and that things will be very different next season. That will be scuppered if we don't stay up.

Burnley have usually done well against teams at the bottom this season from the bottom up Sheffield 3 points 1 to play Albion 2 points Fulham 1 point 1 to play Brighton 2 points Newcastle 0 points Southampton 0 points Ten games 1 win I'm surprised we are 7 points clear at this point but i still think we will stay up as long as we don,t lose Sheffield or Fulham games

It’s difficult to care when every game is a glorified pre season friendly, VAR is terrible, no fans makes it look pointless, players diving/blatantly cheating becoming worse by the week. Not checked the table for weeks till today, we’re safe on to the next one.
Yeah it's been a dreadful year of football

I read it that he doesn't care if we stay up or not.
Nah, I'm just bored of football in general atm, it's not the same.

That mirrors my thoughts at the moment. It’s on the television nearly every day of the week and it’s a chore to watch. It was a novelty at first but not anymore.

The last thing I want this summer is more football, even if there are a few fans back. There will still be no atmosphere with the few fans in the stadiums rattling around like a marble in an empty can.

I just want us to bag another three or four points and then this, perhaps the worst season there has ever been, can be put to bed once and for all.

You’re certainly a lot more optimistic than me on that one DC. Maybe if serious outgoings occur?

I seriously don't expect even one new player that is ready made for the 1st team to replace what we have now, I hope I'm wrong but that's my thought process.

I think we will have some new, "he's one for the future coming in", plus more to the academy, as I feel that's where the new owners plans point to.

I don't think we'll be relegated, I said 16th place at the beginning of the season and still think that's where we will finish, yes the two games have been beyond disappointing and very un-Burnley like.

If we don’t sign any first team ready players in the summer we are nailed on for relegation next year if we stay up this year. We have no game changers on the bench and no real competition for places. This is the main problem and caused by Garlick not Dyche. Pep Guardiola couldn’t have done better than the weak squad we started the first few games with.

The bookies still have no confidence in either WBA or Fulham staying up. You can still get 10/1 for the Clarets to drop.

I always say at the beginning of a season that 17th would be good enough but I don't really mean it!

I hope we don't have another one behind closed doors because we will be gone and all the investment in Academies and Women's teams will be amongst the first casualties once the money stops.
What investment have we put into the Women’s team?

The Championship is so weak,I dont think the team we have now would struggle to stay up next season....the three promoted teams will imo occupy the relegation places next season.one or two additions in the summer we will be fine.

If Fulham win today. The OP could very well be right.

Anybody who doesn’t realise we are firmly in the sh*t is living in cloud cuckoo land.
