never want to see or hear anything from those clubs about tradition or history, never want to to listen to anything about their past glories from the BBC or the verminous Sky panels, or one single word about arsenal and spurs on talk sport. They are a bacterial mess, shame on them all.

Souness stated that he didn’t think that there should be punishments - it not being the fault of the club, players or the fans.
I can see the argument but there has to be a deterrent. In the same way that clubs going into Admin are punished, that isn’t the fault of fans or players.
There must be a punishment, reform and fairer share of control.

Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
First post on this tonight - too busy enjoying the coverage after putting the little un to bed.
The players have to take a lot of credit, as does Boris / Dowden and the fans. The pressure from the three elements has probably been decisive. Notable that though there are rumours in Barca it is only the English to pull out.
Now their bluff has failed and leaving is no longer an option, that’s their power obliterated, but there are other power bases in football that need controlling, the Premier League being one. Time to modernise through legislation and say that football can still be a corporate affair but only under the stipulations laid in place by a regulator.

Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
I think a poster has suggested 30 points deduction at the start of next season. Maybe it should be even more interesting and make it 60 points deduction. It would be an exciting season, at one end of the table seeing which 4 clubs would gain the champions league places, while at the other end of the table there would be 6 (once big) clubs fighting it out to see who could avoid relegation. If it creates an exciting league, maybe it could be repeated again in the following season, the three that escaped relegation first time, again starting out with 60 points deduction, while the 3 relegated teams help boost the attendance figures in the Championship - with their "parachute money" shared out equally amongst all the other clubs.DCWat wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 11:38 pmSouness stated that he didn’t think that there should be punishments - it not being the fault of the club, players or the fans.

Of course, to be fair to the players under contract, they'd be allowed to go out on loan to other clubs, but with no loan fees and wages continuing to be paid by their parent club. Let's say that the 14 Premier League clubs could draw lots for the right to select two loan players each from the 6 (once big) clubs and to balance it up, 2 of the 14 could pick an extra player each, making 30 loan players, 5 from each of the 6 (once big) clubs.
Or, is that going a little too far?

Rumours Maguire and Henderson were pivotal in standing up to their owners, particularly the former who sounds like he gave them an ultimatum of some sort. That’s the difference with players like Maguire and Tarky (thinking of England) - the latter is very good, but the former is a winner. Similar to Roy Keane and Neville when they were playing. They just bulldozed through the opposition, on and off the pitch.

Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
Glad it has collapsed. We don’t need a new midweek competition for the big clubs, what we need is a new Saturday league for them. Make this super league a Saturday league, get them out of the prem and they can take their money with them, and then english football can go back to what it once was.
Have another season like we did in 17/18 and we’d be champions! I really hope them six clubs f off completely within the next 10 years. Be the best thing in the long run for english football.

Perez appears to be struggling on.
Apart from this crap, he isn't someone I know a lot about. In trying to find out his reaction to teams pulling out I discovered
He doesn't care that the English clubs have pulled out.
He still thinks Bayern Munich and PSG will.joine eventually.
The door is open to Lens to join the ESL.
Thinks football matches are too long and need shortening, because young fans get bored.
He doesn't know if Ramos will re-sign, as money is tight due to the pandemic, but his main target remains Mbappe
Let's have a poll, how many pennies, short of a shilling, is this bloke.

Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
The trouble with drastic punishments as per the one proposed by my good friend PW is that it turns the Big 6 into victims and to a certain extent justifies their attempt to form a beak away elite.
I think our own chairman has the right idea football needs to use this event to push back the dominance of these elitist clubs by reforming the governance of the sport, however I am not sure that HMG are the right people to do this.
Furthermore handicapping the clubs punishes the fans players and management many of whom put their knobs on the block by speaking out and opposing this move.

Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
It's a pity that there are no fans in grounds at present. It would have been a good opportunity to get the Stadia rocking, when facing the BIG SIX, with a two section chant.
The first section chanting LOADSAMONEY , the second section replying NO CLASS
It could do the rounds in all non-ESL grounds.
Roy Keane hit the nail on the head in 2000 with his Prawn Sandwich comments. The directors of Clubs have lost the roots of football, but the events of the last few days have shown what football means to the average Joe, the ones who struggle to put food on the table, but who are still prepared to fork out to watch THEIR team week in week out.
I think that this debacle has come at a very timely point. Many fans have been falling out of love with football - VAR, cheating and the pandemic have certainly added to that; fans are now desperate to get back and see live matches; next season feels like a new start.
I applaud the words of our new Chairman. He is right, "The game is bigger than all of us". I do hope that he does walk the streets of Burnley and helps to ensure that ESL breakaways are not allowed to ruin football.

Well done to everyone that spoke out about this. It just shows the power of "real fans". When crowds return I suspect it's going to be rather uncomfortable for the respective owners/executives sitting in their comfortable boxes at the games.

On a separate note why hasn't this prompted discussion on the greater evil in football - too much money in the sport.
It's easy to pick on the big 6 for making this decision, but there are teams that also would have accepted if they were massive instead of only big spenders.
When did the likes of Wolves, Leeds, Villa, Everton etc be the good guys? Even Brighton. They may not have spent the money Chelsea have but they still ruin the competitiveness of the league with unfair spending.
I was hoping this would cause some stricter legislations, that you should only be able to spend what you earn. If the big clubs aren't earning enough then they can do what everyone else has to and sell their players.
What we need is a cost cap on clubs, and a replacement to FFP. If Wolves et al are going to be the good guys see what they could do without bending the rules and spending money they didn't earn themselves.

Don't forget they've got a crocked Hazard and an unwanted Bale but they won't attract new or better sponsorship deals.

He's been banging the drum for better financial regulation for a very long time and he's adamant the pandemic was the perfect opportunity to reset football finances, specifically the wages.
He said football could've gone one of 2 ways, regulate the wages which are the biggest issue, or try to grab more money which is a bad look during a pandemic...

Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
My niece, happy birthday Sara, worked for 20 years at OT on a matchday. She started while at uni and loved every minute. Jumped out of bed on matchdays and couldn't wait to get started. She started as a waitress and finished running her own hospitality venue. She talk to directors, players, celebrity fans the lot. She even sat and watched the game with the odd players who were out injured.
It all changed when the Glazers took over. They weren't allowed to talk to anyone, fraternising with players they already knew. In the end she packed it in, as it was just so bad. There is so much that they don't understand about a, football and b, the British.
I suppose if they reap their dividends every year, they couldn't give a flying ****.

Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
I think that we need to give the six teams exactly what they wanted, a change of scenery. This season all six should be relegated to the Champ with six coming up. Then next season we revert to the normal three up, three down. That way it will take at least two seasons for all six to make it back to the Prem, if the're good enough and they will have had a change of scenery along the way. Simples.

I love how all statements pretend they were faced with signing or missing out, like they were just presented with option last sunday.
I believe the contract is 177 pages long. That was not written and approved in a week.
I cant see how those representing the big 6 can sit round the premier league table without being changed. Woodward is the first of many.
Trust has been broken.
There has to be some forgveness from the 14 but at tje same time there needs to be a new punishment in place, like a 30 point deduction and a fine of that years tv/prize money for any club talking to a third party without prior approval from the league.

A lot of egg on faces this morning. It really doesn’t look good for some of these completely out of touch owners. The comments by Perez are desperate. Regulation needed urgently and wage controls. The TV companies and excessive wages has caused this greed to spiral out of control. This is why I am beginning to prefer grass roots football.

John Barnes on BBC took the interviewer by surprise. JB wants wage caps and more to sort football. He said the "closed shop" started when the Premier League was formed in 1992. The only reason there was a fuss now with ESL was that Sky, Premier League, FA and UEFA hadn't been invited to be part of ESL plans - one power group against another.
Times (on line) has a photo taken in New York in 2017, several of the big 6 owners at a dinner - claimed to be an early stage in developing ESL plans.

Lee Hoos is on 5live at present discussing this and comes across quite well.
Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
Unless ownership methods of clubs is changed I can't see this being the end of it.
It's clear that these type of owners are investors who want a return on their money. Investors go where the money is. They just have to be careful that any changes they make to the way their club operates gains more money then it would lose. For this reason I would guess more work will be done on the ESL idea. They will look at weaknesses of its current idea. The obvious weakness is the fact that the clubs assumed that they could continue in the existing football world whilst creating their new one. The reaction from all bodies has been that they couldn't. The next step will be to see if they can go ahead with an ESL without the current football set up - no Premier League, UEFA or FIFA. I don't think there's any legal reason these clubs can't do that. If they do they could change the Laws of their game - bigger goals, no offside, a different refereeing set up etc.. The key though is they can only do it if the money is there. If they can earn enough money to cover the costs of not playing in the various leagues etc. and more on top.
A globetrotting franchise set up beckons!

Quite right Paul and a 50 point deduction would be a good round figure !!!Paul Waine wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 11:55 pmI think a poster has suggested 30 points deduction at the start of next season. Maybe it should be even more interesting and make it 60 points deduction. It would be an exciting season, at one end of the table seeing which 4 clubs would gain the champions league places, while at the other end of the table there would be 6 (once big) clubs fighting it out to see who could avoid relegation. If it creates an exciting league, maybe it could be repeated again in the following season, the three that escaped relegation first time, again starting out with 60 points deduction, while the 3 relegated teams help boost the attendance figures in the Championship - with their "parachute money" shared out equally amongst all the other clubs.

It's hard to imagine wage caps in this day and age. How does that fit with modern employment law etc.? Its also hard to imagine that such powerful and influential ( and therefor, you would think, intelligent) people in charge of multi million pound business's can misjudge something so comprehensively. There must be another agenda. It reminds me of those murder programmes where you have two killers working together, you think, how can these two have found one another? surely one would think, ' This is a bad idea'Paul Waine wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 9:11 amJohn Barnes on BBC took the interviewer by surprise.

The Europeans will suffer most as they have the biggest debts. But THEY CAUSED THE DEBT.
Some nice notes here from a Daily
It's got worse because of the pandemic, but Barcelona and Real Madrid were struggling before Covid. Man Utd are only in debt because of the Glazer takeover. The reason these clubs aren't making 'enough' money is because they're badly run. The odds are already stacked enormously in their favour. If any of these giants aren't qualifying for the Champions League it's because of their own mismanagement.
The business model of paying £80m for a squad player then paying him at least £150k a week has been disastrous. He's right - and clearly the way forward is for a business model that allows them to pay £180m for a squad player then paying him at least £2m a week is the way to the promised land...

Money talks and if at all legally possible fine them and pass the monies down to leagues 1&2

Until 1986/87 (as we nearly learned to our cost!) the Football League was virtually a closed shop. Non-league clubs needed to be elected, bottom clubs re-elected.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 9:11 amJohn Barnes on BBC took the interviewer by surprise. I would think though that this was in part a legacy of the old amateur vs professional feud that occurred in the very early days of football, and non-league still being mostly part-time.

Yes it is. Probably even for Grimsby Town. These deluded guys are clutching at straws. (with due respect to Grimsby Town)cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 10:02 amAm I reading that right (among the other nonsense he has apparently said on your post
