Now the ESL idea is over for another year or two I am expecting the big six to push for an expanded champions league meaning the League cup will end (or at least will end for clubs in Europe) to give room to stuff more European games in. Think the league cups days are certainly now numbered.

Surely Spurs wouldn't agree to that? What hope do they have of winning a trophy if the league cup disappears? Isn't their Carling Cup win in 2008 the reason that they're considered one of the elite six?

After resigning from the ESL Spurs have announced that they are to be founder members of the White Hart Lane Cup, a tournament with guaranteed places for Spurs first team, Spurs Ladies, Spurs under-23's and Spurs under 18's.

Nothing wrong with the cup. As Burnley know. Made our season and galvanised us to play off success.

Spurs being Spurs they'd still find a way to not win it.

How about the 7 teams from the previous season who qualify for Europe don't participate, instead offer the 7 places to the top 7 of the National League from the year before (plus the two relegated League Two sides).

Gives a chance for more money into the National League, more chance of non-traditional clubs having a chance of winning and going to Wembley, plus winning the cup puts you into Europe the following season.

Although still traditionally known as the League Cup it has never actually been won by a team from the Football League since the formation of the Premier League.

If the treacherous 6 were barred from entry it would certainly offer them a better chance of breaking that hoodoo.
