Today's footie 21/4

Better late than never, and nobody else bothered to start a thread so here goes.

That ex-ESL side Spurs being held 1-1 at home by struggling Southampton, Ings for Saints, Bale for Spurs.

The really worrying news for Tottenham fans is the absence of Kane, either he is injured, or he's being rested for Sunday, I suspect it's the former.

Bournemouth 4-1 up at Millwall, and surely securing their play-off place with that victory.

Gareth Taylor's Man City 2-2 with Chelsea in a vital WSL encounter.

And I had to chuckle at a result from Italy earlier- AC Milan 1 Sassuolo 2, it's not been a great week for those teams seeking to break away has it.

Kane injured his ankle against Everton.

Spurs are winning 2-1 now

Yes I know he took a knock in that game, I just wasn't sure how badly he was laid up, clearly it's enough to keep him out tonight, and Spurs will be desperate to get him patched up for the final, he's had issues with his ankles before though which is a worry for England as well as Spurs,

Hmm! is that what could be described as a big 6 pen at the end? I doubt we'd have been given the benefit of the doubt with that call.

Rotherham lost their third consecutive home game in a week. Still in with a chance to catch Derby but from what I have seen they have been naive in their approach to closing the gap, chasing after a win in every game. Sometimes it's important to keep.what you've got in a game as highlighted tonight and last week against Coventry.

Would have been a fitting end to the day if both the mighty Supa Clubs lost.
Have to make do with one now.
Come on Villa. 8-)

No Grealish for Villa again which makes their task even harder, City though haven't quite been at their best for a few games now, so Villa may well fancy their chances of nicking something.

Southampton's form has been incredibly dire for months now, and they can only be thankful they amassed so many points in the early part of the season. I still can't see a scenario where they get dragged into trouble, but if their form doesn't improve pronto you do wonder how long RH can keep his position.

Their loss means that if we can start finding our feet again we could still finish above them come May.

2 goals in a matter of moments for Kyle Lafferty for Killie against Micky Mellon's Dundee United.

1-0 Villa :)

Yep, they aren't usually anything like as good when Grealish is out. But they've made a decent start. ;)

Great football from City for Foden to equalize.

Foden really is going to go on and become an All Time great.
He's outrageously good.

Fancy them in the play-offs they are the team who've got momentum, and history suggests that's vital at the end of a long season.

And it's telling that the 3 teams who went down last year now occupy the top 3 positions in the Championship.

City respond in style, and yet another for Foden.

Probably more a sign of how poor the SPL is out with the Glasgow giants. But he's certainly proven a great signing for Killie.

Yes, I know but at 1-1 in the 2nd half they were 'toe to toeing it as if they were in added time and a goal behind. Got caught throwing men forward v Coventry when a point to follow up their 3-1 v QPR would have been a good return.

Coventry take late lead at Stoke to leap frog Rovers. Edit: Coventry win.
A good set of results on Saturday and they are down to 20th
Fixtures.
Rovers v HUDDERSFIELD
NOTTS FOREST v Stoke
Derby v BIRMINGHAM
Wins needed for the 3 capitalised sides.

Stones is back to his normal self. At fault for Villa goal now could be sent off for a crazy tackle (VAR).

What the hell is Pep complaining about, definite red.

It’s a soft red for me but still probably a red. Not too dissimilar to Barnes on Matic where Barnes caught him with his follow through. Only Barnes played the ball first whereas Stones missed it.

Stones can't blame Pope for his pathetic display tonight, and he and Maguire at the centre of England's defence don't inspire my with any confidence, and that's even before we get onto calamity Pickford, that is why England won't get very far in the Euro's, decent teams will score plenty against that defence.

Huge late drama in the Wycombe game.

Keeper goes up for a corner sees his 1st shot blocked, and then his 2nd effort handled, and Akinfenwa dispatches the spot kick for a 2-1 win.

I wish Southgate would take his blinkers off. Both Stones & Mings badly at fault with goals and then Stones off. I’ve no idea either what Pep was ranting at.

Rotherham seem to have had 4 home games in little over a week. Beat QPR 13th, lost Coventry 15th, lost Brum 18th, lost Boro tonight.
Hard work for the lads is that. Hope they can catch "Wayne Rooney's Derby".

Barnsley win and Reading only draw, that looks like the play-off places down and dusted.

Barnsley, Bournemouth, Brentford and Swansea will contest for a place in the PL.

Can't see it TBH, Rotherham's last 5 are Barnsley, Brentford, Rovers, Luton & Cardiff, hard to see many points out of that set.

Derby only have 3, but Birmingham, Swansea, Sheff Wed isn't a bad finish for them, so the Rams will probably survive just, but they've still had a terrible season even if they do stay up.

It could the TV execs will certainly hope so anyway. and if Rotherham can stir themselves it's not impossible both could go down, which is staggering to imagine for 2 clubs of that size, but this is precisely what makes the league pyramid so compelling, you can be down in the 3rd tier as Leicester were, and then a couple of seasons later you can be lifting the PL title, equally you can be a successful long term PL team like Charlton or Sunderland, and then you can quickly fins yourself slumming it in League 1, it the unpredictably which keeps fans on the edge of their seats, who knows where Burnley will be in say 2/3 seasons, we could be challenging for a European spot, but equally we could also find ourselves playing the likes of Accy or Morecambe in the lower reaches, and it's the journey that creates all the memories both good and bad,
