Phil Foden and Jack Grealish

Post by mkmel » Thu Apr 22, 2021 3:37 am

Both class acts but is there room for both of them in England's starting 11?

And what about 17 year old Jude Bellingham who is highly rated and who some have said is a special talent?

Was going to post similar........Foden is unstoppable at the moment & will only get better.
Foden and Grealish should be the first names on the team sheet. They could create havoc!

Foden starts.
Grealish his sub.

Both won't work in same team.
Both play their best in the same position.

Forget Grealish behind the 11 also as we know the 11 will be Kane and his strengths and what he needs.

Grealish on the left, Foden on the right - Henderson/Rice holding midfielder, Mount and Bellingham as a central 2 in front of Henderson or Rice.
Easy!!!

Don't forget that Gareth likes to play at least 2 holding midfielders and 3 right backs. You need to slot them in around those.

To my mind Foden is a level, or even two, above Grealish.

He’s got experience of playing in the Champions League, he’s more versatile, more of a team player and is doing it at a younger age.

Grealish has fantastic talent but it feels like you need a ball just for him at times. I’d likely have him as an option off the bench.

Foden and Bellingham are sensational for their age.

If Happy Jack learnt to pass the ball, instead of beating every opponent he'd be a star and also stopping diving would help.
Its the usual media hype round Foden and Bellingham. I remember when Sterling was the best thing since sliced bread, now slagged off by commentators.
Personally, I would play Sterling before any of them ,he is a class act .But we are talking about Muppet Southgate a man who couldn't manage a pub side.

I've not seen England have so many quality attacking players at the same time, since I started watching England in 1990. It's the defence that worries me. Slabhead and Stones have a mistake in them every game.

Both very good players but not sure would work in same team. One looks like a chav and the other looks and behaves like a pr*ck. On balance Foden is probably less annoying to watch and more likely to be a better representative off the pitch. Grealish is more of a flair player but Foden is more of a team player. Foden is probably suited to more England games.

Pretty sure Southgate will line up with the below:

Pickford
Walker, stones, Maguire, Chillwell
Rice, Henderson
Foden, Mount, Sterling
Kane

This is just going of the fact he knows his starting eleven for the first game apparently and has clearly talked about the strengths of each of the above players

You’re probably right there. The problem is that Sterling and Foden don’t/won’t get close to matching their impact at club level because they’re not surrounded by the same class of player.

It's going to end up with a new Gerrard/Lampard/Scholes conundrum and I wouldn't be surprised to see yet another England manager fail to resolve an issue like this.

I'm getting wound up just thinking how incompetent Southgate is.

We have a great chance to win it with the players we have but if Dier and Henderson get in we are just a poor team with what ifs.

We have unbelievable pace up front and players so confident on the ball in Foden and Grealish. Rice has improved massively this season and Kane has added assists.

The only worry is Sterling is way out of form and could be burnt out if they get to the champions league final.

This one of Newcastle's looks pretty accurate - but to me looks like 6 defenders and 4 forwards. Leaves Mount (and maybe Henderson) to do all the creative midfield work as they're the only ones capable of doing it in that line-up. Need to find space for Grealish somewhere.

Henderson? He's a top player and walks straight into England's starting 11. Certainly much better than the likes of Phillips.

Did you see the video made of Hendersons passing in the world cup semi final against Croatia?

It was woeful and a big reason why we lost from being 1-0 up. Modric just ran the show.

Now if you put him in a midfield 3 with Foden and Grealish by his sides he might be good enough. 5 yard passes to better players and defensive duties. Rice is ahead of him for that position at the minute but I can understand Henderson being there. In a defensive two, no thanks.

He’s been used well by Guardiola.

It was pretty clear two years ago that he was good enough.
He’s been used pretty sparingly on the whole and hasn’t been rushed.

Bit easier for a manager to do that when he’s got Silva and De Bruyne etc mind.

I usually have a healthy dose of cynicism when it comes to the next English wunderkind, players like Wilshere and Walcott were heavily hyped but I never saw what the fuss was about. However, to me, Foden genuinely looks like one of the most promising footballers I've seen in a long time, the ball sticks to him like glue. If he keeps his focus on playing footy and leads a sensible lifestyle he could turn into something very special.

Foden isn't alone either. I think Greenwood could become a top-top-top (Merson style) player if he keeps his head down.

We have the players to play multiple systems depending on opposition. It just worries me that Southgate will go ultra conservative. The best form of defence is attack, if we fall on our sword playing Grealish Mount and Foden, then so be it, but I'd rather we have a go than limp out again.

In theory against the lesser teams we could go 4-3-3 with Grealish and Foden in the 3

Or they could both play in a 4 -2 -3 -1 or 4-5-1 with Kane as the front man.

Rashford and Sterling are both good on their day, but very hit and miss at international level

That's the England match threads that get started, where people go on to a match thread to say they have no interest in the match.

Most posters whinge about some kind of entitlement that West Ham/Leeds fans have yet turn into exactly the same when anything England related.

I think depending on the opponent should dictate who plays.

For example, I'd like to see Rashford and/or Sterling against Croatia with Kane lying deep.

In other games or maybe as change up, I think Grealish/Foden can definitely start and IMO Bellingham can easy start as the most advanced midfield player in a 4-3-3

Foden and Grealish are the best two English footballers in a generation or two. If jack ever learns to stop cheating and stay upright, he’d be even better.

Absolutely no reason whatsoever why these two couldn’t play together and make England a real force. Build the team around their strengths, and let them express themselves. England could be world beaters... we have some seriously mismanaged talent.

I would be very surprised if Grealish starts for England at the Euros.

Rashford, Sterling, Foden, Sancho, Mount are probably all ahead of him in Southgates pecking order.

England starting X1 for the next 3 years here for me

Pope
James Stones Cody Chilwell
Bellingham Rice
Foden
Mount Grealish
Kane

Bellingham and Foden with their ages and a lot of other factors (inc. Foden being under Pep) I think these two can be the worlds best in their positions.... yes Mbappe/Haarland are the strikers but them two will be the most sought after midfielders for the next 15 years

Kane

Bellingham and Foden with their ages and a lot of other factors (inc. Foden being under Pep) I think these two can be the worlds best in their positions.... yes Mbappe/Haarland are the strikers but them two will be the most sought after midfielders for the next 15 years
Agree with front 6 but the back 5 is really questionable

Foden and Grealish are the best two English footballers in a generation or two. If jack ever learns to stop cheating and stay upright, he’d be even better.
Woah Woah Woah Woah Woah.

Jack Grealish is one of the two best footballers in a generation or two?

He’s not even in the top two in this generation. Not even top 5.

Grealish is 26 this year. Has 5 England caps. Less than 100 Premier League games and never played in Europe. He’s not got 20 top flight goals in his whole career.

We really need to steady the hype train. Getting silly now.

I would agree its questionable NC.... my logic was that I think Maguire is well overrated and was a toss up between both chilwell/Shaw and TAA/James on the right.......

what would your back 5 be?
