Kent v Lancs

Post by onewillieirvine » Thu Apr 22, 2021 11:21 am

Lancs inserted and are 5-1 after 5, Davies gone, Wells and Jennings looking to steady the ship.

Struggling on at 32/2 Jennings missed out again. I'm still amazed that with all the cricket played in Lancashire as was, apart from a brief flirtation from Hameed I can't think of purely a batsman we've produced to play test cricket in the best part of twenty five years.

Lovely sunny day in the Garden of England although there is a chilly (by southern standards) breeze too. I was hoping to be watching this game live whilst recovering from double knee replacement surgery but having to make do with the live stream.

Considering Lancs were 85-4 that's not a bad recovery really, good knocks from Bohannon and Vilas, but unfortunately neither could go on and get the big score, still a much better day for the Red rose than the White rose that's for sure.

Blimey it's been quite a day for Lancs with the bat, I certainly didn't expect us to be nearing 500 when we resumed this morning.

Brilliant knock by Lamb, the highest ever score by a Lancs number 9, and he got to his century in style with a 6, get him up the blooming order for goodness sake.

And Wood didn't do too badly either did he, a brilliant ton for him also, and a stand of nearly 200 for the 8th wicket has put Lancs firmly in charge.

Now after tea a few more quick runs, and then a wicket or two before the close would cap off a perfect day.

Indeed! now can you go and capture some Yorkshire wickets thanks, they're going much too well in their 2nd innings for my liking.

500 up for Lancs, and we're still batting, surely we'll declare soon and give the bowlers a go.

Yorkshire finally lose their 1st wicket, but they still only hold a slender lead over Sussex.

Get rid of Crawley and that will top off the day for Lancs.

Meanwhile Joe Root fails again for Yorkshire, and they're heading towards defeat, their lead is only 74 over Sussex with just 6 wickets remaining, so unless their tail does some serious wagging it's looking like victory for the hosts.

That lad is pure class isn't he, reminds you of the test match in India a couple of months back, none of the other England batsman could get the ball off the square, yet he compiled a majestic 50, sometimes it looks like he's playing on a different pitch to everyone else.

Just a reminder Lancashire were also 85-4, so this contest is by no means done yet. especially if Crawley goes big, and can find people to hang around and support him, Lancashire's tail enders showed that you can make runs on this track, and that's what will give Kent hope tomorrow.

Highest 8th wicket partnership in Lancs history I think, and the highest individual score by a number 9 in Lancs history also I think, not sure about any others.

We've certainly enjoyed a better day than Yorkshire anyhow, they only have a lead of 92 with 5 wickets in hand at Sussex, so all being well Sussex will go on to seal victory tomorrow.

A notable shout out to Durham's David Bedingham who scored 257 out of a total of 475, the next highest score was 64, so that puts his efforts into perspective.

Lancs enforce the follow on surprisingly, no joy 2nd innings thus far 27-0.

A word of warning for any Lancashire fans celebrating victory already, we made Kent follow on at OT in 2015 and the match ended up a draw, shouldn't happen here you wouldn't have thought, but in sport you just never know.
