Re: Les McKeown
I saw Les McKeown's Bay City Rollers at a Futurama festival in Leeds, early 80's.
They were way past their peak by then. Southern Death Cult were on the same bill....eventually became simply "The Cult" .

Re: Les McKeown
Saw him a couple of years ago at Gateshead Sage not a fan I was dragged along was really entertaining to be honest. We had tickets for 2 of his dates the missus was nearly in tears, I’m secretly gutted as well.
RIP Les

Another part of my youth gone. The Rollers were great in the good old days, although they we're making good money at the height of their career unfortunately they were all ripped off leaving them next to nothing. Rest in peace Les.
Re: Les McKeown
Saw them at the Navada in Bolton in 1974.
RIP Les.

Re: Les McKeown
Last time I saw the Bay City Rollers was in the early 70s as I was on my way to the dentist in Burnley. They were running out of the Keirby Hotel and diving into a limousine. There was absolutely no one else around except me walking along Church Street.

Young working class lad who lived the dream, fell prey to some of life's demons, and was ripped off by a Manager who made Colonel Tom Parker look like Mother Teresa .... RIP, Les !!

Re: Les McKeown
Was Les still with BC Rollers then?
Met him a couple of times when he was doing the London small venue circuit with his new line up.
Think I've still his demo tape from then.
R.I.P Les.

Wow, not everybody's cup of tea and even as a 16/17 year old when they were at their peak, the "Rollers" definitely weren't mine, but still they were a huge phenomena at the time and I do feel sad at the news, especially as it's my 63rd birthday today and things like the Bay City Rollers craze just seem like yesterday.

was once locked in the bar at the Adelphi Hotel in Lpool in the 70's with hundreds of screaming girls outside because the Bay City Rollers were staying at the hotel .,- we needed a police escort to leave . Thats how big the BCR were at the time .

Re: Les McKeown
Not really my type of music, but I must admit Shang-a-Lang has endured the test of time, my mother went crazy for them in her youth and even when she aged if a Bay City Rollers track was played by the DJ she and her pal were usually the first ones hitting the dancefloor.
I guess they'd be classed as the 1D of their day, and they certainly attracted a mass following, and they must have swelled the sales of tartan in their heyday.
Yet another star leaves us at a relatively young age he was only 65 after all.
RIP Les.
