I went for a run on the tops tonight and could see the smoke. I hate these moor fires, ruins so much countryside. Hope it’s not too bad & not man made.

Hopefully it has not got down to the peat. Between Rossendale and Darwen the peat was burning for years, possibly still is having started in the 1980’s

It’s bad news for the ground nesting birds, of which there are many, up there

That went off last year pretty badly.

Someone suggested that up crown point is planned and managed for driving out grouse. Unsure if that’s true.

Drove over Deerplay about 8:30 tonight and you could see big plumes of smoke from that direction. If it was some little scrotes, lets hope they ended up getting caught in it

'Little scrotes' is a fairly lazy assumption, especially when you consider the fact that more 'dignified' members of society do this sort of thing deliberately, knowingly damaging the ecosystem merely to fuel their bloodsports.

Great track by local band the Lounge Society puts a spotlight on the practice.
