OUR LATEST FORMATION

Post by warksclaret » Sat May 01, 2021 10:11 am

I know SD is not receptive to change-as everyone knows he is the 442 man in the PL. However I do like the latest set up, used at Man Utd and Wolves. Playing Brownhill, Cork and Westwood, all three central midfielders means we are not over run in midfield, where in numerous games employing just two has put the defence under immense pressure. It also allows Taylor and Lowton to overlap without being exposed, and almost be your wide men.The pressing from Brownhill and McNeil has already led to several goals. Add to this the understanding Vydra and Wood have and we have a good all round team. Wood as a result is coming deeper, pulling the opponents defenders closer to him, which allows Vydra to play off the shoulder of the remaining defenders, and this is where he excels. This latest style of play means I don't fear any of the remaining 5 teams we have to play. And of course with 10-15 minutes to go Rodriguez can be introduced, and or Barnes , who when you are trying to see the game through will always win you free kicks at the other end of the pitch

JBG, at his best would displace Brownhill but he’s not been at his best.
Lowton has been superb for the last couple of months and the improvement in his attacking has been a major plus. I’ve complained about Charlie’s delivery previously but that has been much improved now he just needs to make the odd run inside and have a dig, it keeps defenders honest.
Jack Cork is the glue that holds our midfield together. We lose so much when he is out.

So I've heard, but sadly I missed that game when he was fit.

Man City pretty much played 442 today.. Didn't hear anyone calling them football dinosaurs.

At Man U, we played 1 forward. Vydra was left out. At Wolves, we played 4-4-2 with Wood and Vydra up front, and Brownhill played Gudmundsson's role.

I think our best chance of winning would be to play all the subs for 90 mins.

Best formation

4 1 4 1 3

I hope we see more of Richardson before the end of the season, a couple of starts would do him well.

Definitely would like to see us play 1 up top against top opposition away from home more often.

I was thinking that. Vydra and Wood up front.

No point playing the subs when they don’t contribute.

I agree-its just like we appeared more of a team-pressing at every opportunity, Wood dropping deep and pulling defenders off Vydra, and both fullbacks attacking, almost as wing men, and being covered when they did so. Maybe SD has managed to now getting it to work, with everyone knowing their role

Ah but they wouldn't come on as subs, they would be playing 90 mins!

The biggest change has been to play better attacking football.
Looks like the new owners have asked Dyche to play this way so they can sell the club better around the world.

I suspect if that's the case then we'll be looking for a new manager as SD won't take kindly to being told how to play football!

Big questions for this next window. Is there any genuine help to improve the team, and who has the final say in who we recruit ?. Is SD going to renew his contract ?

Or he might enjoy all the plaudits his team have been getting for the last 10 games or so?

Results haven't always been there but we are far easier on the eye to watch, and when it comes off produces brilliant performances like Wolves.

What would you put this change in style down to then?

More open, expansive football that puts a lot more pressure on the defense.

The players just doing it themselves? Vydra changing everything?

An almost fully fit squad to choose from.
Dyche giving full backs and midfielders license to attack.
A centre forward pairing forming a good partnership.
Relaxation due to a healthy gap to the drop zone.
Not Alan Pace.

Of course you could be right.

But we have had all that happen in other seasons but the performances have been way above them levels. Even in the defeats we have played pretty well recently.

Throughout our entire Premier League history under Dyche I’d say we’ve gone through very contrasting periods of form. Usually when we’re going through a difficult spell Dyche reverts to type and shuts up shop. This invariably leads to us grinding out results in an often ugly manner but getting out of trouble. Once our league position is comfortable he tends to release the shackles and gives the players more freedom. This freedom is obviously made easier when he has a full squad of players to choose from

Agreed Rileybobs. Our Euro qualifying season was expansive as it went to the wire.

One factor not to be overlooked, is that our team continues to give everything until season end. Some don't.

We can overpower them and march on.
