If we don’t sign anyone during the summer who should go straight into our starting XI then it’s a bloody disgrace.superdimitri wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 4:25 pmWilliams wasn't great and you could tell they hadn't gelled but Phillips had Wood in his pocket all game and had a very good game.
Lundstrum is another body who's probably good enough so exactly the type of signing we need. We don't have the money to get enough players in that are better than the ones we have. We're short of too many players.
I'd be very surprised we sign a single player who is standout better than our starting 11. That might disappoint some fans but it's important we have injuries covered and someone can step in as adequate cover in different positions.

Like I said, some fans won't be happy with it, but I see getting numbers in far more important than improving the 11. We're too many bodies short with too little money to do both.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 4:43 pmIf we don’t sign anyone during the summer who should go straight into our starting XI then it’s a bloody disgrace.

I expect minimum 2 new starters as well as 2 more of these type of squad fillers you mention who are good enough to step up when asked.superdimitri wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 6:11 pmLike I said, some fans won't be happy with it, but I see getting numbers in far more important than improving the 11. If we haven’t got the money to buy a minimum of 4 new players then Dyche needs to utilise the loan market much better than he has in the past. Bring in players who he will use and who are good enough, not just expensive dross to sit on the bench.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Lundstram would just be another body, wouldn't be a cheap wage either since he'll be backing himself as a proven PL player. We shouldn't be wasting money on players who don't offer an improvement on what we have or potential to improve - doing that is why we're in need of such a big window now. Throwing money away on journeymen utility players with no resale value. We have a good core, it needs a couple of quality additions, plus some youth and pace added to it.

Improve the first XI and, as long as there isn’t a departure, you’re automatically adding depth.superdimitri wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 6:11 pmLike I said, some fans won't be happy with it, but I see getting numbers in far more important than improving the 11. Why? The hate, mentioned above, from Blades fans comes from him telling them he was seeing out his contract. All legal but stupid. Why should Wilder trust him again.

Said it on here before but Lundstrum had a purple patch for half a season. He wasn’t a first team regular in Blades’ promotion year and he has been benched - more often than not - in their relegation season, having attracted the ire of the supporters for a number of below par displays. There’s plenty of Sheff United players who could improve our squad but not sure he’s one of them.

100% true it’s just not sustainable for us without serious investment regarding player recruitment, I personally think we’ll be ok for another season & then it’ll catch up with us, 1 thing we’ve currently relied on especially this season is the 3 worst teams safe in that knowledge, but I think it’ll get to the stage where the likes of Norwich ect will become stronger.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 10:03 pmScary sums of money for lads who haven’t exactly set the prem alight in there short stints.

The prospect of Brentford getting £35m for Ivan Toney this summer is ridiculous - all paper talk. As Moyes succinctly put it; football’s skint.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 10:22 pmI just don’t know how we can compete. We purchased the leagues top scorer for 15m in 2017. They’d have been lucky to reach the £25m mark payed for Benrahma last summer (and that was in many instalments if I remember correctly).
From what I can see, the Championship clubs are in some trouble and, whilst they might talk things up, will increasingly come under pressure to sell particularly if stadiums aren’t going to fully reopen by August. It’ll take them all a couple of seasons of normal operations to stabilise, I’d guess.

When you don't have a budget and only need a couple of players maybe. When you are on a low budget and desperately need squad depth you can't afford to bust it all on just 1 or 2 players.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Ivan Toney was a five million purchase. Perhaps it’s cleverer recruitment as opposed to bigger spending recruitment that’s required.
There’s a hell of a lot of negative outlooks on this thread. We may well have a difficult window but let’s, for now at least, see how it pans out.
Between Dyche and Pace (assuming Dyche buys into and commits to longer term plans) it’s now about developing a strategy that allows us to compete for signings, identify talent and keep gradually improving the squad.
Hopefully there’s much more of a positive attitude towards what we can do and how we can do it by the powers that be, than we are seeing on here.

The way transfers are reported on in this country is a nonsense. 24 hours sports news and click bait articles mean that hype and spin is all - numbers are plucked out of thin air and links made without any real evidence.
Bournemouth may very well want £30 million for David Brooks. But look at the balance sheet of every major club released over the last year. Huge, huge losses all over Europe, TV deals failing in France, Premier League clubs having to pay back money on their TV deals. Bournemouth, or whoever, can want what they want ..... if the money isn’t there then they have a problem. And the money absolutely isn’t there at the moment.
Barcelona are dealing in the free transfer market at the moment .... Aguero, Garcia, Wijnaldum, Depay. That tells me far more about the state of things than any tweet from a “journalist”.

Before people start proclaiming Ivan Toney as the second coming of Romario, let’s see how he does in the Premier League.
For every Chris Wood there’s a Rob Earnshaw - you just can never be sure with these things.

I’m quietly optimistic about this summer.
Everybody is skint, or at the very least tightening their belts, for the aforementioned reasons.
The current climate may just very well play into our hands a little.

DC agree with you-whats important is the relationship and trust between SD and AP. SD needs to change his outlook on LOANS. There will be players out there out of contract . Heaton, Ward and Arfield were great examples, but we had the ability six or so years ago to identify these players who became great loyal servants. There are also some exceptional players from the top six. who don't even feature in their squads. Reece James (outstanding in the Champions League Final) was on loan at Wigan. Mount and Tomori on loan at Derby . No direspect to Wigan, but if they can identify talent like James, we should be able to. If we were SMART enough I think we could get two players on loan, and two OOC, all better than the players we have. Then we keep the cash for a steller signing. What we dont want on the eve of the new season is excusesDCWat wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 5:46 amIvan Toney was a five million purchase. Besic has played barely 30 League games in his 7 years at Everton
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Noted. I put that down to the number of different managers (five managers and four caretakers) since he joined, wanting their own players rather his own ability. I've seen far worse players get in the first team ahead of him over those years at Everton.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 12:48 pmBesic has played barely 30 League games in his 7 years at Everton
