Re: Sam Matterface
Hated his arrogant b******t comments when he appeared on talkshite with Brazil, Durham and co, truly dreadful commentator, I thought Tyldesley was cliched until hearing this pillock.
BBC for me Sunday, then tea at half time not listening to any pundits who will inevitably be biased apart from maybe Jurgen the German.

Re: Sam Matterface
I thought he was okay, it felt the game was being commented by someone who was a fan, like us, and someone who was nervous, like we were.
He made some mistakes, but that's also nerves? Not sure.
There are far worse, be careful what you wish for!

Just wondered if it had crossed your mind that you seem to be the only one that thought he was 'okay.'superdimitri wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 6:23 pmI thought he was okay, it felt the game was being commented by someone who was a fan, like us, and someone who was nervous, like we were.

This sums up his appalling commentary.
https://www.football365.com/news/opinio ... al-englandThere was just so much of it. Some of it was just pure Partridge (“Open your eyes as wide as the Wembley arch”). Some was just baffling – what, you can’t help but wonder, went through his head at the moment he decided to refer to Denmark players as “members of staff”? Then there were the slips of the tongue that, in isolation, could be forgiven (“NFL basketball timeout”) and the basic errors that really cannot (“England captain Harry Maguire”, “Denmark are down to nine men. Well not nine, ten. Nine outfield players”). Perhaps the most awkward moment came when he urged everyone watching to go on a bender and sack off work before desperately rowing back (“Stick to the rules. Be safe”) either because he suddenly realised what he was saying or because he had a panicked voice in his ear.

You mean the only one that's not remarked on him being 'bad' ?Stan Tastic wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 7:11 pmJust wondered if it had crossed your mind that you seem to be the only one that thought he was 'okay.'
I'm sure there's lots of people that really didn't give it much thought, including me. He was okay and his contributionhelped me enjoy the match.
Just because there are some people unhappy with him doesn't mean everyone is.

He was okay
Re: Sam Matterface
No he wasn’t. He was dreadful but so were the rest of the itv crew. I’ll be watching bbc.

Re: Sam Matterface
My son was going after about how poor Lee Dixon was as well.
I listened to a few of the Wales matches early doors, on Talkshite, and their guest pundit was Dean Saunders. Now that bloke could put cows to sleep with his insightful views on the game. I think the wife could have done a better job.
'Well Dean, what can Wales do to recover this?'
Dean, 'they need to try harder.............yawn

He was shocking and not up to it phil bird would do a better job..
Re: Sam Matterface
Matterface is just the latest in a long line of never-ending drivel spouters.
He can't shut up for a nano-second and his scripted, pre-planned "ad libs" are cringeworthy.
He and ITV should be embarrassed about his performance last night and he should never again be allowed an important football gig.
But I'm sure he'll be there again in all his self-importance come Sunday at 8 o'clock.
But I (and loads of others by the sound of it) won't be.

Re: Sam Matterface
Not great and out of his depth but I’d still take him ahead of the likes of Darren Fletcher on BT. I literally can’t have him as company in my living room and listen to him crow bar in pointless stats for an entire 90 minutes. I can’t believe that appeals to any right-minded football fan.
Re: Sam Matterface
I avoid Matterface like the plague at the best of times.
About 3/4 times last night, he said ‘Kane draws a foul’ when it was just blatant diving from the Spurs man.
Infuriated me.

As Vegas pointed out previously, the worry is if the choice is Matterface or Jonathan Pearce.

Fair enough, if instead of a commentator you'd prefer to listen to an annoying, incompetent idiot talking nonsense for two hours, who am I to argue?superdimitri wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 7:46 pmYou mean the only one that's not remarked on him being 'bad' ?

Jesus.
Watch it on the Beeb with the sound off with audio from Five Live seems about the best compromise.

Re: Sam Matterface
I’ve been watching the entire tournament on ESPN via IPTV. Del Piero, Chris Coleman, Christian Fuchs, Sami Khedira and Craig Burley in the studio with Derek Rae, John Champion, former USA international Taylor Twellman (surprisingly impressive) and Efan Ekoku on Comms. Very impressed.

Spot on. Also, keep your attention on what is going on on the pitch, forget the anecdotes and in-jokes with your co commentator. By and large we are not interested.maccclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 10:19 amYou're there to describe the match Sam, not tell us how we're feeling.

Re: Sam Matterface
Agree he’s very good, but it’s kind of a different art form the radio commentary.
My favourite tv commentator this tournament has been Steve Bower on the BBC. He talks a bit less than your Tyldesley’s and your Matterface’s , keeps his attention on the pitch, has a listenable voice, and keeps the irrelevant comments, stories and anecdotes to a minimum.
Be nice to see him taking the final rather than Mowbray.

I'm surprised Vicky Sparks didn't get the BBC gig
Re: Sam Matterface
Had to look up who Natalie sawyer was.
Their child is apparently called "sawyer matterface". I'm assuming that sawyer is the first name, poor kid.
That's worse than any of his commentary blunders.

Braithwaite/Brathwaite
Gnabry/Gernabry
Kyle Walker/Carl Walker

Sounds like a bloody good family man if he’s got three of them.
Where do people get off digging into and criticising people’s personal lives anyway?

Emma Hayes is reason enough to have me watching the Final on the BBC.

If you want to be a bell about it then go ahead. I didn’t claim that you had criticised his personal life, hence my use of the word ‘people’. The fact that I was responding to you on my first point didn’t mean I was referring to you with my second point.

Rough viewing numbers look like 24m on BBC and 6m on ITV
Wonder if the ITV chiefs expected that
