One of the biggest things letting us down.....
Is our crossing.
It has been for a while and it's multiple players who are at fault for it.
The amount of over hit crosses is not funny.
Crossing practice next week Sean, please.

Re: One of the biggest things letting us down.....
What killed us today was our spurning of 2 glorious opportunities when we were well on top in the 1st half, if either of those by JBG or Mee goes in the back of the net, we probably go on to win comfortably.
You have got a valid point regarding our crossing though, and given we've got arguably one of the best headers in the PL in Wood, it shouldn't be that difficult for players operating at this level to deliver some decent service into the box, instead of constantly picking out the Brighton keeper, or simply overhitting them altogether, the latter in particular is unforgivable for a PL team.

Negative tactics killed out. Then brownhill came on for Dwight to take the pi$$ out of everyone who had paid to watch.

Might not sound like a big deal but it is. Numerous squandered chances because players overhit the ******* ball.
All the build up play wasted due to experienced footballers being unable to measure the flight of the ball properly.
Its perhaps excusable if under pressure , or running flat out to get to a ball, but not the number of times we do it badly. We are fairly hopeless at throw in's too.

We couldn't score goals last season and having made no signings in forward areas couldn't put the chances away this afternoon.

Shows how far behind we are when we are trying (and failing) to produce the same kind of tactic so brilliantly displayed by Stanley Matthews 60 + years ago.
How about a few short accurate passes in and around the opposition penalty area, and some intelligent hold up play?

Have watched the highlights now and the Mee header was a sitter by his standards. JBG did well with his shot but scoring from that distance was unlikely. It’s the Mee one that’s the hardest to take.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 14, 2021 9:37 pmWhat killed us today was our spurning of 2 glorious opportunities when we were well on top in the 1st half, if either of those by JBG or Mee goes in the back of the net, we probably go on to win comfortably.

Agree on your crossing point. Unforgivable and so frustrating to overhit crosses.

As a winger I scored plenty of goals being in position for the overhit cross. When it happens so frequently why don’t we have our opposite wide man staying wide to return it first time whilst their defence is at 6s & 7s.

Re: One of the biggest things letting us down.....
we are so adverse to tactical change it's ridiculous. We were crying out for an extra man in midfield in the second half to wrestle some sort of control back. I would have brought Brownhill and Vydra for Wood and Jay and gone 4-51 with Brownhill pushing on

Re: One of the biggest things letting us down.....
He has been here long enough to think up some other plans but clearly doesn't want to and out trust in it.
But after many years, I'm sure he's had time to work on other systems & formations to change things every now & then to react to situations in a game.
I'm guessing that is too much to ask. Gotta keep with the same old, same old obviously.
Re: One of the biggest things letting us down.....
There’s a few things letting us down, the squad strength is poor and is well into a slide as the same players age.
We have no pace, the amount of times the opposition score or threaten us from a breakaway when we get a corner is beyond concerning also.

Re: One of the biggest things letting us down.....
How was JBG’s a ‘glorious chance’? A 25 yard strike? People talk about all the chances we missed but two of them, including our goal, came from set pieces and JBG’s was a long range shot.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 14, 2021 9:37 pmWhat killed us today was our spurning of 2 glorious opportunities when we were well on top in the 1st half, if either of those by JBG or Mee goes in the back of the net, we probably go on to win comfortably.

Give me 3.5m a year and I will do. I’m a fan, I praise and criticise in equal measure. Putting vydra on instead of Barnes or brownhill on instead of wood or jay to give us an extra man in an ageing midfield would have been a start yesterday, and certainly don’t take off your most creative player when chasing a game!

How you can take McNeil off for Brownhill is ridiculous unless he is injured.
Although I doubt if we had have changed things tactically we would have done much better as bar Vydra we just didn't have any quality on the bench

Re: One of the biggest things letting us down.....
Maybe the crosses yesterday were affected by the fact they had two very big guys at the back and a tall keeper.
As for the subs clearly SD doesn't fancy Vydra and what choices has he got to affect the game? Very little. Their goals were the biggest disappointment for me. Same moves twice.

If you had the ability to run a Premier League team, keep that team in the Premier League for several years, qualify for European competition then you too would be earning 3.5m a year.
It's easy to join a message board and shout out that people should be doing this or that.
Look at me! Look at me! I know much more about football tactics than Sean Dyche.

Does doing all of the above make you immune to criticism? Do I claim to know more about tactics than Sean Dyche? If that is all you have got after several good points made about yesterday’s result (and many more before it), then there isn’t much point engaging further with you. You must be pleased with turning up watching the same game over and over again.Targetman wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 9:19 amIf you had the ability to run a Premier League team, keep that team in the Premier League for several years, qualify for European competition then you too would be earning 3.5m a year.

Re: One of the biggest things letting us down.....
I have said it for a long time. Our biggest problem at this level is our passing from CM. Our wide players can’t get in good crosses because they are always receiving the ball in no space.
In our best season Defour and cork were spraying the ball about with real tempo stretching the opposition players. This allowed space and time for Brady, Gudmundsson to find a good cross.
Look at Dwight yesterday, practically every time he got the ball in a wide position there were at least two people pressing him about 30 yards out from the by line.
Signing a CM for me is almost as critical RM.

Bissouma, despite his moaning stood out for me, yesterday. He’s obviously being linked to fairly big money moves now, but he was brought in for a similar sort of price to what we are rumoured to have bid for Cornet. Not silly money in the grand scheme of things.
It’s easy to say, let’s find someone like that, but it’s exactly what I hope we are looking for.

Even if some of us could do a better job than SD it could never be proven because we will never get the opportunity to manage a professional football club so it’s impossible to say if we could or couldn’t.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 9:50 amDoes doing all of the above make you immune to criticism? It can never be proven 100% because the opportunity will never be afforded, it’s possible that some of us could, being an ex player doesn’t give you that exclusive right.

Spot on. However we keep doing it. We don’t adapt, no one sees this and thinks we need to do something different or at least try to do something different. Just keep on hitting high looping balls in.
Why not try a some low hard crosses to mix it up.

Because usually it’s an automatic career path, joe bloggs from the street isn’t plucked & given the job, joe bloggs might be able to accurately predict more correct results on an accumulator than the ex player so that must mean that joe bloggs knows more about football than the ex player or is that logic skewed by your reckoning?fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 10:14 amThere’s already a reason that the something you mention won't happen.

We try and cross aerially from any position past the half way line, which if you have two commanding centre halves playing against you and a competent keeper, its so easy to defend. We are poor at getting players to the by line and cutting it back, rather than crossing high. Brighton by contrast got both goals this way

So it wouldn’t be possible for anybody else to assemble a team & pick a formation & put some cones out onto a field & hand some bibs out & instruct a group of players to do some exercises, in principle it's exactly the same as somebody coaching an amateur football team but the stakes are a lot higher, it’s even easier because the amateur football manager wouldn’t usually have all the hired help such as individual fitness coaches & gym facilities.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 10:24 amI think it's more that joe bloggs isn't qualified and wouldn't have the first idea how to coach professional footballers, but, of course, you already knew that, right?
