Now that the dust has settled

Post by RalphCoatesComb » Mon Aug 30, 2021 6:44 pm

Obviously, we were all gutted when Bamford slotted home yesterday.

But, we were SO CLOSE and we deserved the point and no one could have complained had we taken all three.

My point?

12 months ago, we made a bad start and were not playing as well as now.

With fans back, t'Turf should become a fortress again.

Worried about 1 point from 9? Not me. Not Spot either :)

Playing miles better than the start of last season, a point was a fair result yesterday though.

As long as the ship sails a steady course I see no problem over this season at least. However new additions obviously help keep the club fresh and I welcome the work done this summer.

I look at it this way. Liverpool scored two against us, but conceivably we could have got three, and that was at Anfield in front of the Kop, who had been starved of football for over a year

I look at it this way. Liverpool won the title in 2020 and less than 2 weeks ago we limited them to only 27 shots. Evertons ground is less than 1 mile away and we play against them there next month.

Performances have been decent by and large, and arguably we should have more than 1 point to show for our efforts.

Frustration is my overriding emotion about the Brighton & Leeds fixtures, we bossed large parts of both those games, and for 70 minutes looked on course to win both, however unless we can start cutting out these defensive errors, and the temptation to continually sit on a 1-0 lead, we'll struggle to win games, we were well on top 2nd half yesterday, then we scored and immediately retreated into our shell, instead of going for the 2nd goal to kill the match, and we paid a heavy price for that negative approach.

Also we can't seem to keep clean sheets anymore, and given that we don't exactly score many, needing to net 2 to win a game makes the task all the harder.

We can only hope that when we finally get that elusive home win it'll trigger a run similar to last season after we beat Palace.

I'm still reasonably confident we'll have enough to comfortably survive, it seems to be a trait of ours to start slow. And then once we hit our straps we generally pull clear of danger quite easily.

And it could be worse at least we've actually got off the mark, unlike Arsenal. Norwich & Wolves.

It’s a great point. Leeds is a massive club, they should be well ****** off not beating ‘Burnley’

Arsenal have had a difficult start but, hopefully, it will get worse.

The Gooners are showing their true, loyal support for their manager and their team. It's GREAT !

Wow that's mean Ralph, hopefully the Gooners management back Arteta until the end of the season to keep them where they are now ;)

All things considered it could be worse. Three games in which we’ve had 1 shite half hour (and an inexplicably bad substitution). We should have beaten Brighton by half time and but for a late defensive lapse we would have beaten Leeds. On top of this we had some good chances at Liverpool and I’ll bet a few teams go there this season coming away with worse than 2-0. And a halfway decent window has just closed.
I’m not crying into my beer just yet.
