Rovers at it again

Post by Fretters » Tue Sep 28, 2021 10:34 pm

Another good start to the season with Brereton (Diaz) stepping into Armstrong's boots with his 9th goal in 10 games tonight (still lost, though).

I give it till Christmas.

If we were to sign him in January it would be my favourite Clarets signing ever, for comedic value alone.

Despite their defeat last night Rovers are still in the PO positions, they do have a tough looking October ahead though.

Blackpool (a)
Coventry (H)
QPR (a)
Reading (H)
Derby (a)

If they emerge from those 5 games still in the top 6 they'll be doing well.

Putting rivalries aside I believe that Rovers are in an excellent position. I read on Lancs Live that Tony Mowbray will soon be travelling to India to see the gaffers and if they see that they have the right man, I think they have, with the necessary investment the jobs possible.

Don't disagree, but I don't think they can sign players in January can they?, and might have to sell Brereton because of FFP rules.
(No doubt others will correct me on this point if I'm wrong, but this is my understanding of it)

They aren’t doing badly but their squad is small after they didn’t really spend the Armstrong money. They need to strengthen the squad in jan if they are going to challenge.

Hopefully the thickos who make up a good chunk of their support will continue to want Mowbray out as I genuinely think he's one of the better managers in that league. Keep him and they could easily get a playoff place. Praying for a Steve Kean-esque saviour to step in though...

As i like to remind my biased Rovers mate, since they sacked Steve Kean they have never been as high in the championship as he had got them at that point.

Whatever our feelings re. Rovers, very difficult not to admit that Mowbray has done a very good job there.

When Rovers win they love him on the Lancashire Blackburnegraph forums ... when they lose or draw its all "Mowbray out" ...

They paid 7 million for him 3 seasons ago and he hadn't really done much, a lot of fans were calling him but i believe he has just entered
the last season of his contract and is so far showing no interest in extending his deal

I think they are similar to us, well maybe up to this season where we've added a bit of depth. They have a very decent starting 11 for the Championship, but when injuries and suspensions kick in they don't have the squad to maintain a push. I would estimate a 10-12th place finish for them..

That mentality is by no means unique to either Blackburn or Burnley fans,

Blimey! I even read Leicester fans calling for the head of Brendan Rodgers following Saturday's game, which is absolutely crackers considering the tremendous job he's done for them.

Mowbray has done well for Rovers, especially after inheriting the mess he did.

He nearly kept them up in his 1st season, got them instantly promoted back to the Championship.

And he's got them competing in the Championship despite all the internal issues.

The Championship is an incredibly weak league at the moment.

Once upon a time the gulf between the bottom end Premier League sides and the top end Championship sides wasn’t that big. Now it’s huge.

There does appear to be a growing gulf, and Fulham and West Brom both look like making an immediate return to the PL, as Norwich & Watford both did last season.

That said I'd rather not test out your theory in the event of Burnley's relegation.

It just wouldn't be as good it they didn't have a good start and then drop well below the playoff places would it?

I can't understand the wish for them to fail.

What would be better for E Lancs jobs, general profile and excitement than having us both in the Prem?

Obviously I want us to absolutely thrash them when we play them in the Prem

I agree your point. Burnley in Prem and the other lot doing well but not quite well enough, in the Championship.

I agree to a certain extent, but then you realise our club is gaining more new fans from the towns around us.
The youth set up have a lot better chance of attracting local talent than them.
Sponsors etc...

Let them stay where they are for a while.

I'd always want Rovers at least 1 division below us. We can meet them now and again in the cup.

Exactly whenever anyone wishes Rovers any success, just remember the plane during the Torquay PO game, and think of how they treated us with utter contempt during those times.

Haha what a ridiculous bit of business signing a player of that value for 3 years and ending up getting nothing.

I remember him being quite highly thought of, and thinking Rovers had landed a good one, however never really saw him much on the score sheet, whether that was because he wasn't playing or playing out wide I don't know, I don't really watch much of Rovers, usually make do with a little chuckle at their result at 16:55.

I am aware he is a full international with Chile and changed his name.
So has he finally fulfilled his potential, being played in his best position, or is just playing for a big move now he is in his last year of contract?

Was it 08/09? Or 13/14? It was one of those. One of the main gripes I have with our own fans that at times it feels like we sing more about them than we do our own team. It’s embarrassing.

We have...

Go to ewood
No nay never (although that’s tradition so I accept that)
Bastards get battered
Long live the venkys
Jack Walker ‘song’
10 men went to **** on ewood
**** on the bastards below

I’m sure there’s more but that’s just off the top of my head whereas if you took away the generic songs we have for players how many do we actually have purely about us?

Oh Burnley is wonderful
Lancashire home
Burnley Burnley Burnley

After that I’m struggling!

Bookies already paying out on ben Brereton to score 20 + goals this season. Seems there are quite a few that put the bet on before season started

Bookies already paying out on ben Brereton to score 20 + goals this season. Seems there are quite a few that put the bet on before season started
How strange, he only has 10 doesnt he?

Could easily go and do an ACL in any of the next 10 or so games without reaching that figure.

I know sometimes bookies do these things for advertisement purposes, but usuallythsts with more recognised or well known players/teams and with much bigger winnings.

Looks like someone has cashed out rather than the bookies paying out if that betslip is real.

Would Skybet really offer a 1000/1 on a striker scoring 20 league goals in the Championship?

Seems quite high to me the more I think about it. Fair play to whoever backed it if it is real.
