100%. I wouldn't even say he is a long ball hit man because his second touch is always either a tackle or a throw in to them.

People forget that he had about 4 good games last season. Scored a trick one game and is credited for an amazing performance against Arsenal when Xhaka kicked the ball at him - his celebration that day said it all.

One of our worst performing players in the past two seasons.
This reminds me of the thread title.

Apart from all the goals he scored in those two seasons..
All the goals? He has scored about 13 goals in 46 games. 3 of which were in the same game and one goal was kicked against him.

That's 9 goals in 44 games. Its just shy of 1 goal in 5 games.

Thats not good enough when he offers absolutely nothing else throughout the game.

Good point. If you don’t count any of the games in which he has scored then his record is about 0 goals in 35 which must be one of the worst strike rates in the Premier League, if not Europe.

I see what you've tried to do but only backed up my point.

How many are you expecting our strikers to score in a season at this level?

To be fair wood did this last season. He was awful for half a season then hit a run of form and was great. Let’s hope he can replicate that this season

Double figures in every season I think. We'd have been knackered without him. Suggest you focus your attention about lack of goals on the other three forwards.

The other 3 forwards are not and have not been good enough, far from. However, Wood seems to be undroppable, no matter how tripe he is/has been.

Because he's our only player who can score enough goals.

So lets not count his first half hat trick away at Wolves nor his equaliser against Arsenal.

I think if Cornet is ever unfit, we are better playing Pieters wide left midfield and switch Dwight to the right (he did OK there last week). JBG and Lennon just not up to the standard of the PL. Pieters is competitive, can track back, and got a very sweet left foot. The crossing yesterday just did not trouble a side bottom of the PL

Nice cast bud. Great wind up post. Can’t see any other reason for it seeing as how his goals are the main reason we are still in the PL.

Oh!!! You were being serious?

Roberts can play rw as well which could be an option. I think JBG and Lennon both have a place but the tactics were poor yesterday. JBGs crossing was about as good as it got.

The first half certainly wasn’t utter crap and with better final balls into the box we would have been two up at half time. Not sure about some of the penalty claims from my seat in BL.
I don’t agree with the scapegoating of Wood as just like others have stated, without his goals we wouldn’t be playing in the Premier League now. I was however puzzled or should I say disappointed when I saw Lennon was starting. Sadly this guy offers very little in the way of a threat or even as a holding midfielder. Some of the reports in the press this morning suggest we were as bad as Norwich? Not sure about that as they were bloody awful. It wasn’t the best of afternoons and how Kevin not a friend of ours only added two minutes on at the end is beyond me.
It is still early days and yes it will be a struggle this season. Let’s not forget how well we played at Leicester though. It’s not all doom and gloom just yet.
