Pace Comments

On BBC Sport site re manager changes and at Watford. Not sure how to post link but states that stability is a double edged sword. Important and allows a lot of planning. ‘ At the same time there needs to be accountability for performance, which lies with all of us. If any one of us doesn’t do what is expected of us in our jobs we can all lose them’.

Interesting comments and not heard this kind of talk before from him. Clearly results and performances do matter and there is pressure to deliver.

No good now he’s just give Dyche a 4 year contract.

Of course it matters, it absolutely must! I’m confident they won’t be trigger happy but nobody should be exempt if they’re aren’t performing in their job role. I also don’t think we are remotely close to that either, Dyche will turn it around, it’s what he does

If the club hadn't given Dyche a four year deal someone like Klinnsmann would have been a good gamble i reckon this summer, got the USA playing well and was part of the German national team set up coaching when they won a few world cups, could do a lot worse plus he was a big game player and would command that respect. Probably knows how to play attacking pleasing on the eye football too.

Interesting, I agree, but I’d very much expect that to be the case and it’s pleasing there is that pressure/focus on performance at the club. I doubt SD would want it any other way.

I really wouldn't read into this much. It's just generic drivel that anyone already knows about, including Dyche. It has nothing whatsoever to do with our recent form, or Dyche's new contract.

If he types it into google he will find out its full of tit, fanny and claret, I'm sure he would be intrigued and firing up the beetle in minutes :)

On a more serious note though could always get him in for a forwards training session or two, couldn't hurt as he has 1 goal in 2 at the highest of levels.

Yep, if the worst come to the worst, Dyche will be given the chance to get us straight back in the EPL. After all, it would be folly not to. Like you say, he's 2 promotions from the Championship under his belt.

I said it on another post. Pace won’t let it get to relegation he will do whatever it takes to protect his investment. I suspect if we are looking like we are going to be relegated under Dyche by jan/feb he will probably get someone else in

Who? Changing your manager (especially one who has a good track record of survival with this squad) has absolutely no guarantee of survival

I agree with this. I expect Dyche to turn it around but there are certainly no guarantees of promotion and is Dyche really likely to do it 3 times ? He may but it’s hard to see how the AJK model would work in the Championship particularly if we can’t get out of it for 4 or 5 seasons. So I don’t think it will get to accepting relegation to chance promotion. It is good to see there is pressure to deliver and there should be when you are so well paid.

I wonder if Prem teams will become like the NFL in having defensive and offensive coaches, I think our problems mainly lie in attacking so its something to look into maybe. I noticed recently Aston Villa have a set piece coach shouting his head off on the sidelines alongside Dean Smith.

I realise that traditionally football is very much a game where one manager makes all the decisions but im not sure if this is an outdated concept.

Quite right that SD should know he's not bulletproof, and even with a new contract if results don't improve, naturally his position well come under scrutiny.

I don't get the impression that Alan Pace is trigger happy though, and SD has plenty of credit in the bank to be given time to turn our fortunes around.

Clubs will already have coaches that specialise in a specific area.
There is a throw in coach that's worked with several PL clubs, for example.

Don’t think we need to be in any doubt that for all Pace’s PR and positive interviews, he ultimately, is a ruthless businessman whose motivation at Burnley is to make himself money.

What we have to hope, is that the best chance of him making money, is by ensuring success is delivered on the on the pitch.

As far as Dyche is concerned. As long as Pace thinks he is the best option, he will be here. If at any point he doesn’t believe that, he will dispense of his duties. Previous successes and sentiment are unlikely to be a concern.

The recent signed contract suggests that Pace is, for now, happy with Dyche at the helm.

Given the time it took to sign the contract and the constant reference to it was with the lawyers...i wonder if there are lots of caveats in there from the board, that perhaps cover their / the clubs backs should things turn sour.

There’s certainly some on here who wouldn’t dispense of Dyche even if we finished well adrift bottom of the league,

For me if we continue our horrendous form to the end of this calendar year then his position should come under serious threat. 4 year contract or not.

One thing is certain. If we get rid of SD before the end of the season then relegation is guaranteed.

Nothing is more obvious.

We've been much worse than this under SD

We'll actually played pretty well, its just that we've made mistakes in games that have cost us

Pace would have seen what we have seen, and he's rewarded SD with a four year contract

Absolutely.

We could have played the exact same way, snuck a win against Leeds, Leicester away and got a penalty and 3 points against Norwich... and we’d be mid table and the vast majority would be very happy with the start and there’d be a fraction of the criticism towards Dyche.

I’m not saying we will definitely stay up, but I’m also not overly concerned yet. The new signings I believe have improved us, and I am quietly confident we will start to pick up a good few points from the run of games after the etihad.

Think you might be right there, be pretty daft to get relegated and still be paying the manager £3.5m (or higher) per year, maybe the wage/s for the management team are dependent on what level we are operating at.

His comments are what you would expect someone in his position to say and set no alarm bells for me. I can't see SD being replaced at any stage this season, a couple of wins will calm things down amongst the doom and gloom merchants.

There is an assumption among some that we are watertight because of Dyche’s past achievements.
Pace was quoted in today’s local paper that he believes we will be in the Premier League for many years to come.
I will join these confident people when the table shown during matches of teams that have dropped points from winning positions doesn’t show Burnley at the top. This worrying pattern has to stop first .

One thing I would suggest is that if we do get relegated there will not be the same degree of fan’s support for Dyche to stay as there was last time.

In Dyche we trust. Give him time, he knows what he is doing. We are playing really well so far this season, yes I know we have dropped an horrendous amount of points from winning positions, but the football has been better (apart from against Norwich, however we were robbed of a victory in that game). Keep the faith, we will no doubt take our annual pumping at City next weekend, but I will be there, with my lads and will back the team and the manager. If we haven't picked up after the Christmas period I may glance at the panic button, nowhere near that yet. Getting rid of Dyche would in my opinion be a monumental error, and a turning point for the worst in our future.

Potts was before my time, but Dyche is without doubt the best manager in my 30 years of watching.
