Team For Southampton

Post by warksclaret » Fri Oct 22, 2021 5:56 pm

For tomorrow I would like to see SD start with the same 11 that started v City. That means -we go 5 in midfield, Collins keeps his place, Wood is the sole striker.Absolutely essential we don't give away an early goal. If all going well maybe introduce Vydra in the second half. A draw would be good, 3 points even better. A defeat would I think start to affect the team and coaches's morale. Definitely a MUST NOT LOSE game

Don’t mind if we go 5 across midfield though.

It’s looking like we go into this game with an almost fully fit squad. This should make us happy as we aim to find our first win of the season against a side that is beatable and struggling to find wins themselves.
Why not start with the starting eleven from the last game with the back up of what should be a strong looking bench for us

Let's just not be playing Cornet up front or behind Wood as has been suggested.

He's fine where he's been playing, drifting inside and owning the far post.

Pope,
Lowton, Tarkowski, Collins, Pieters,
Brownhill, Westwood, Cork, McNeil, Cornet,
Rodriguez

But i wouldn't be surprised at Mee coming in for Collins, and I very much doubt JR will get on.

You want to play a centre back at right back, a right back in right midfield, and a winger as a centre forward…and drop our biggest goal threat? Wowzers.

The last few games have been dire in terms of chances created and goals scored.
I would go for the following line up :-

Pope
Lowton Collins Tarks Pieter's
McNeil Westwood Cork Brownhill Cornet
Vydra

And please Mr Dyche play it on the deck.

Was that not where he was playing last week? He seemed to spend a fair bit of time as part of a front two.

No.

Having 3 in the centre of midfield gave him licence to join Wood more.

Guddy and McNeil do it as well, but not as effectively. Although Guddy tries doing it when we have just 2 in centre mid, which is great but does bring its problems.

I'd be going with the same team as last week or the one at Leicester (but Collins in for Mee).

With Cornet’s flair you have to allow him some leeway to go where his instincts take him, as long as he then works his way back into ‘the system’. We’ve already seen him make space for himself and his teammates, as part of his natural game.

I was out of the country and sharing a phone stream with a few others so certainly didn't have the best view, but it seemed to me like Cornet was playing on the left of a midfield 5 but was tasked with running in behind Wood when we were counter attacking. Seemed to work quite successfully for a while. We've already seen his desire to get in behind the back line which is something that we lack from all of our midfield and wide players.

Its a very welcome attribute of Cornet and something we have been lacking

He's an u23 player. Its normal for u23s to play pre-season, but not to feature during competitive games. Lets hope he gets a chance sooner rather than later.

He started off behind wood, with Brownhill on the right and Mcneil on the left, but this was changed to Cornet on the left, Mcneil on the right and Brownhill behind Wood, so Cornet could double up on Mahrez.

Until Sean drops Wood, we will still play more or less the same, just lumping it up to an out of form target man. It's time for a radical change with us playing more football in the build up. (Which we are capable of.) Vydra and Cornet are both very quick and very agile and provide runs the midfield can exploit and it's time we used them like that.

Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Pieters
Gudders Westwood or Cork Brownhill McNeil
Vydra Cornet

Don't know why, but I've been imagining Brownhill scoring this week-end.

I think Dyche will start 4-4-2

Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Pieters
McNeil Westwood Brownhill Cornet
Vydra Wood

If we’re winning at 60 minutes bring on Cork for 3 man central midfield

I like the use of Mee, Collins and Tarkowski together and the combo of Cornet and Vydra but I'd start with Cornet and Wood, with Vydra coming off the bench.

Oh I totally agree. It was the team I would play rather than what I expect SD to do. I expect the team to be the same that started v City unless CT is fit again.

BBC graphic shows McNeil wide right, Cornet wide left with Cork n centre flanked by Westwood and Brownhill. Wood sole angle striker. Let’s hope this works.

Roberts still not making the bench, he must feel really demoralised after the 2 good international performances to still be behind Lennon and Bardo

Dyche said he wants to give Roberts a friendly or two first didn't he. Not sure why he'd feel demoralised, he's just returning from an injury.

But BFC will have different fitness requirements to Wales and the standard and intensity of the PL is different than international football.
