That's mainly because he usually gets only a few minutes in a game to impress. Usually when we are sitting back and defending late in a game. If he got as many 90 min games as Wood, you would see a very different player.
I just don’t agree, Vydra wasn’t even particularly prolific in the championship.

He played 148 games in the championship for three different clubs. In 148 games he scored 45 goals. For comparison

Wood played 97 games in the championship And scored 42 goals.

Wood has a considerably better goal scoring record at both levels

Agreed it is hardly earth shattering 3 by Xmas, Vydra's best ever season in the Prem is 3 - what would you call that.

Wood ended last season with 12 goals in the Prem, Vydra has 10 Prem goals in his whole career.
You're not reading what I say. Vyds can't score if he doesn't play. He comes on for ten minute cameos at the end of the game when we aren't even going forward and you expect him to score as many as someone who plays 90 mins nearly every game?

Anyway, these boards are about opinions. Let's just agree to disagree.

How many minutes do you think he played last season ?

There are a number of people who are and who totally disagree with you. Vydra's best spell for us was in the second half of last season but he still only scored three goals, the same as Wood got in the first half at Wolves.

Probably because he usually plays with a donkey alongside him. Pair him with Cornet and you will see Vyds flourish.

It's noted that you didn't apologise for your earlier ludicrous statememnt.

The big difference between Wood and Vydra is that if Wood scores three goals before Christmas it’s a disappointment, if Vydra does it’s a miracle.

Thats really doesn't make sense. I am not sure 'miracle' works in the context your trying to achieve

I've never particularly rated Wood if I'm honest. He has scored goals for us though and that can't be denied. I do think that his overall game leaves a lot to be desired but if he gets 10-15 a season I'm happy. The issue will be if he gets less than that, but that's not really worth discussing until it's proven or not proven at the end of the season.

R:e Vydra, the jury is still out for me. Wood gets the benefit of being played through his poor form, Vydra is in and out and I think it's extremely hard for a striker to build up consistency like that. I don't think he will ever get 10-15 in a premier league season though, but he might offer more in terms of chances created and assists.

As much as I don't rate Wood there's no denying that he's easily our best goal scorer based on his overall time with us (excluding Cornet). I just hope he manages to get 10-15 again.

That's it, you've won. Calling a player who has scored 48 Premier League goals for us a donkey ends this debate for me, and I have nothing to apologise for, it's not me making ludicrous statements.

I usually look forward to this thread and it’s always interesting to see how posters see the game differently from others. What I can’t stand is when this thread, or any other for that matter, descends into unnecessary bickering which has happened here. I also can’t stand when so called supporters describe professional footballers playing in one of the toughest leagues in world football names like bambi on ice or a donkey etc etc.
I never get to see a match live as I don’t live in the UK and I don’t see every match on TV so how others rate players is pretty important. I just wish posters would just stick to rating the players, accepting that not everyone will agree with each other.

I agree however you have to understand, when calling players, it is judging them by the standard they are at. Look at Audley Harrison in the boxing world. Took some tremendous stick, but when he fought in prize fighter against tough Geordies he absolutely schooled them.

If people think that Wood's game is only about goals, then they're drinking too much alcohol before the games.
Wood holds the ball up superbly well, Harry Maguire said after the game at old Trafford last season, "I was bullied by Chris Wood"
He's had an indifferent start to the season, but we have nobody better to lead the line.
Anyhow, I thought that this was the ratings thread?

Lets face it, he's only in the team because he scores goals.
What's the objective in a game of football?

Ah I see what you're doing there. Clever.
Didn't I say already he scores goals? The stats don't deny that.
Its outside of this I think his play is lackluster, and I'm not alone either.
In games where we struggle to get into the game, he offers next to nothing, his link up play for a big man at this level is pretty bad, and he's often behind the curve when players around him try to get him to join in with playing some good football.

It has also got to be remembered that the team is set up and plays in a style to allow Wood to score.
The team is most definitely not set up to suit Vydras style of play.
