For me a MUST NOT LOSE game, however way we can get a result. Win would of course be an exceptional result. To go into the weekend on a bit of an unbeaten run with Tarks & Westwood back would be a boost. Having said that Watford are no push overs. I watched them on Sunday -shocking at the back, but very direct with some good strong forwards, and Newcastle will surely start playing better soon. Just need every Burnley player "turning up "for these three games. UTC
I agree that it's a must not lose, as a draw will kept some momentum going.
And I don't think we'll lose either, we are playing too well for that to happen at the moment.
Winning is another matter entirely.

I’d go as far as to say Liquidation would be a real consideration should we not win tonight.

I have heard from my mate Kevin whose mum cleans the house of Alan Paces window cleaner that if we lose tonight, Pace is just going to apply for the National League with us

Yes. I was looking at the league table earlier and I believe if we don’t win tonight we are mathematically relegated with 25 games to play, which would be highly embarrassing.
Who's running the magic numbers thread this season? Do they need to be told that the maths has changed and we don't need it after tonight?

Anyone who refuses to see that we are well and truly in a relegation fight is seriously deluded.
Lose tonite and we aren’t down, but it makes staying up a massive challenge - possibly the greatest one we have faced at this level. I don’t know whether we can get out of it, and neither does anyone else.
We are in the ****, that’s a fact. Being cut adrift at the bottom in December is nigh on impossible to recover from.
So by all means, all you Uber fans exude your positivity and show us all how unconcerned you are about it all, but at some point you are going to be forced to look at it objectively and when you do you will see that we are in very serious trouble. That time SHOULD be now….
We aren’t down, of course we aren’t, but it is looking less likely as the weeks go by that we have enough, especially when you factor in what we are likely to get from games when our current front two are elsewhere.
For the first time in this last few years in the PL, I am worried that we don’t have enough. I hope my worries are unfounded…..

I don’t think anyone denies we are in a relegation fight.
Worst case scenario by close of play tonight is we end up six points adrift of safety with a game in hand.
And 25 more games to play.

Is the Wolves game tonight a must win?
No, we have to get to about 38 points, how we get there is irrelevant.
However, the Newcastle game on Saturday is a must win…….
…..for them

What this thread lacks is any appreciation that:
- 33% of our games this season have been without our key summer signing. I don’t think he’s played a full 90 yet? Our form since his arrival has been pretty good.
- 25% have been against the likely top 3 - City, Chelsea & Liverpool. Not all of our competition will have played those fixtures.
- We’ve suffered some god awful refereeing decisions. All teams get them, ours just happen to have come vs. Norwich and Palace. A pen (+red?) and a red in those matches would have made for a very different league table, I think.

If we go down, we go down, if we stay up, we stay up

Having started the season poorly (one point from five games) we've now picked up our form somewhat with just one defeat in seven. The form table since we've picked up a few results looks OK:

Two seasons ago Villa were seven points adrift and a worse GD (one game in hand which they still had to win) yet still survived, despite having the great Dean Smith in charge.

I think we have a good chance against wolves. I don’t know the stats but we always seem to do well/get a result against them.
I think tonight is a must win game now. We need to close the gap with Watford and start putting pressure on the teams above us.
Wolves have been Burnley’s Achilles heel from losing titles to battering us 5-0 in Division four, the Sherpa Van trophy at (old) Wembley. We have a decent recent record but to assume Wolves v Burnley is a banker really does demonstrate a “Premier” fan.
Wolves won 66, draws 29 and Burnley wins 40.

Somehow I don’t think results 50 years ago will have much affect on the result tonight.
Clearly I was referring to recent form

For me it is a game we must not lose.
It will be a difficult match to win, as Wolves are in good form.

After Newcastle scraping a draw with a highly debatable penalty and Dirty Leeds winning we need 6 points this week although 7 wins before January will give us a good platform to build on.

No of course it isn't a must win, however at some stage we will need to start accruing wins, the positives are that we aren't losing now, sadly our porous return of 1 point from our opening 5 games means that we're still chasing our tail, thankfully we have plenty of points left available, and crucially we also have a lot of our immediate rivals to play also, point tonight would keep us ticking over ahead of 2 huge games against Newcastle & Watford.
Obviously we're in the midst of a relegation battle, but seriously what did folks expect at the start of the season, we're always going to be aiming to hit the 40 point mark in this league, that's just the reality for most sides outwith the big 6 and a couple of others,
We can definitely finish above Newcastle & Norwich, and Watford are erratic in their form, so why so many Burnley fans are already writing us off baffles me.

A must not lose game tonight.
We are winless in the last 19 games Tarkowski has been missing.
The good news is that we are only winless in the last 17 games Westwood has been missing.
Someone, please prove this BBC claim is rubbish.
We want a draw!

Its not a must win by any means. But the longer it goes without winning games, then sooner or later we will absolutely be in must win scenarios. Id honestly take a draw; and would have done against Chelsea and Palace, and would do on Saturday, and again the week after. Watford however...
On a slightly different note, someone at the BBC thinks Dale Stephens still plays for Brighton, even though they are writing an article about Burnley v Wolves...

I don't like this attitude towards specific games.
You get "must wins", "free hits" (in other words deemed a loss before kick off).
Every game is there to be contested and won.

Draws away from home are fine. We just need a couple of wins and the picture will look completely different.
Obviously hoping Sean’s record over Eddie continues but even then a draw wouldn’t be the worst result either, still nipping away with points.
I think we will score a couple against Newcastle anyway as they will play suicide football and leave the back door wide open.

Draws away from home are fine (against pretty much anybody) but dropping points at home to the likes of Brighton, Leeds, Norwich and Palace may cost us
The state that Newcastle are in at the moment, certainly puts a fair amount of emphasis on a win there
It will take another 3 draws just to stand still against other sides that manage the odd win - something we don't look like doing at the moment
