Is the wolves game tonight a must win?

Win tonight we will be 18th
Draw tonight we will be 18th
Lose tonight we will be 19th and a huge 4 points from safety with a game in hand but with only 25 games left, so yes lose tonight and we are down

I was just thinking the same. We can’t afford to get cut adrift.

Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
I think we have a good chance against wolves. I don’t know the stats but we always seem to do well/get a result against them.
I think tonight is a must win game now. We need to close the gap with Watford and start putting pressure on the teams above us.

Yes. I was looking at the league table earlier and I believe if we don’t win tonight we are mathematically relegated with 25 games to play, which would be highly embarrassing.

No
Every year we have these nonsense must win threads and every year they prove to be hysteria inducing nonsense. We can win, lose or draw any premier league game and have 78 points to play for.

Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
Nonsense, claretonthecoast.
Granted, a defeat will create an unwanted gap - and more meltdown on here - but we'll not be down so, no, it's not a "must win" game. Neither is Newcastle away.

I used to think you were open to other peoples views. Clearly this is not the case.
I think it’s a must win game. Let’s say we lose or draw tonight, I think we would go into the newcastle game low on confidence and probably results in another bad result.

So by 5pm Saturday you would prefer to be 2 points clear of Newcastle instead of 5
Yet you wonder why it is hard to even consider being sensible with you

Why look down? Take every game as it comes. Get a win tonight and hope for the best against the bottom of the league.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 8:53 amSo by 5pm Saturday you would prefer to be 2 points clear of Newcastle instead of 5

In 2020 we had 8 wins in the last 16 games of the season with a squad worse than the current one.

Off course it does/has? I am sure only having what 3 wins in 2021 will be taking its toll on the squad. They are incredibly resilient lads but they need something to give us a boost. A win tonight takes us 1 point of Watford with a game in hand.

Well I suppose we should all be grateful then for the manager, players and most other fans having more a backbone than be preparing to wave the white flag.

Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
Not a must win.
We are away against a team 6th in the league, missing two of our most experienced and influential players. It will be a very tough game and I’d take a point now.
We have put ourselves in a position where wins are needed very soon though, and a few on the bounce at that.
Also need an end to the shocking refereeing decisions we’ve been the wrong side of this year.

Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
Could be 6 points adrift if we get beat tonight ( no shame against 6th place Wolves ) Plenty of v close games to come ( inc wolves ) like Newc/villa/Watford and home games v West Ham/Everton . Dec as a whole is simply HUGE for us . There’s loads of “ getable” points on offer . We may well be comfortable mid table come early Jan or maybe 12/15adrift and relegated . Both are very possible scenarios with margins so tight .
Personally I think we’ll be about 15th and battling hard come early Jan

Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
The problem as I see it is last season we stayed up on the back of some unusual wins away to Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton etc.
This season if we're not beating teams around us then it makes games against those top half teams much more 'must win'.
Wolves are in form so I'd rank tonight as a 'mustn't lose' but 3 points would be most enjoyable.

Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
I don't know what I enjoy less. Burnley being in this position or what appears the pleasure of you, amongst others, almost revelling in the perverse "must win", "we are awful", continual doom and gloom. Painful stuffNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 8:32 amDid I say that Taio?

Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
No game at this stage of the season is must win. The fact is that if we don't start winning soon relegation will be inevitable..we have only won 1 game in 12 and that is very worrying. I don't the line dished out about performances, I'm not totally in agreement with that. I don't think we've been that unlucky

Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
For me a MUST NOT LOSE game, however way we can get a result. Win would of course be an exceptional result. To go into the weekend on a bit of an unbeaten run with Tarks & Westwood back would be a boost. Having said that Watford are no push overs. I watched them on Sunday -shocking at the back, but very direct with some good strong forwards, and Newcastle will surely start playing better soon. Just need every Burnley player "turning up "for these three games. UTC

Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
For what it is worth I was concerned before the season started but I now think we will have enough to be above 3 teams come the end of the season no matter the result tonight and Saturday. For the sake of the people that panic easily I do think we need something tonight because it is one of those things that gets written in the stars that eddies and Newcastles first win will be against his former team.
Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
We'd still have stayed up if we'd lost all three of those away games you mention.Woonderbah wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 9:04 amThe problem as I see it is last season we stayed up on the back of some unusual wins away to Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton etc.

Not a must win for me no but I fancy us tonight and I certainly fancy us on Saturday. I’d take 6 points from the next 4 games no worries, preferably against Newcastle and Watford but that’s just being picky

Re: Is the wolves game tonight a must win?
No. Watford face City and Chelsea now so you would hope that would be a total of 0 points, although City do have quite a few out.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 8:20 amWith results going against us ( teams around us) is tonight now a must win game?
Clearly though we need to start winning and it would be good to keep momentum strong heading into the Watford game at home, while they would have lost quite a few on the spin.
Anyway, that is all hypothetical talk. Quite a few 'fine margins' which Dyche often talks about haven't gone our way this season so far, hopefully tonight marks the start of something falling for us (see Leeds last night getting a 93rd minute penalty for a Palace defender randomly chucking his arms up in the box and Benteke also missing an open goal).

I would think all games are must win while you're in the bottom 3.
Especially as we have playing alright and not picking up 3 points.
There will be a bad spell at some point in performance.

Lose and we're not relegated, but at some point we HAVE to start winning more games - and that needs to happen very much sooner than later. It's a very important match for sure and one we could win.

We need to start picking up points more often and as Dyche says it's about turning losses in draws and draws into wins.
This is one of those draws we need to turn into a win, which should then hopefully enable us to kick on.
