Chris Wood press conference on SSN
Chris Wood press conference on SSN
In about 2 minutes, just an heads up for those interested
Re: Chris Wood press conference on SSN
He was asked about the Buyout clause in his contract and because of the confusion of different stories going around he was asked was it now or in the summer when it could be triggered.....he come out with he didn't know the wording on his contract his agent knows about that side of things, he just gets on with playing football and doesn't worry what's in the contract..........BULLSHIT.
I hope for his sake Newcastle haven't slipped in their contract he's to be paid 2k a week then

He just doesn’t care about the contract. Might as well not pay him, just loves the game. Must be why he plays with such elegance.

Why would Chris Wood be concerned about what's in his Contract when he has joined Newcastle simply for the "Challenge".

The big dosser! As Tyson would say.
Re: Chris Wood press conference on SSN
If he answers that question properly, he opens the door for abuse. He answered it how he should.
30 year old gets a pay day and will inevitably go down in history as one of the first players the Saudi money bought for Newcastle, fair play to him.

Re: Chris Wood press conference on SSN
Sounds like he’d lost interest in playing for us and was just going through the motions.
Just seen on Newcastle’s own website interview. He said “at Burnley I was in my comfort zone, you never do anything in your comfort zone so I want to push myself to the next level”.

Re: Chris Wood press conference on SSN
Never warmed to him and not too bothered to see him go, so long as the payment goes towards a decent signing or two.
I’ll still give him hell when he comes back to the Turf though, especially if that game ends up being a decider.

Re: Chris Wood press conference on SSN
In all fairness...I think most of our players are in their comfort zone, knowing they wont be dropped. Turning up every day to practice long ball football and do lots of running, chasing balls. Would imagine Wood's training was Westwood blindfolded turning and hoofing balls in the air as far as he could with Wood having to chase them. Cant blame the guy for getting bored

How many on here know the wording of their contract?
I know what I earn, my bonus triggers and my holiday entitlement.
And that's it. Im not I terested in the waffle.

He's let us down. Lost some of my respect. Gone at the worst possible time to a rival.
But is it true the 'clause' could not be activated till summer? If so then its very odd.

He also said something about feeling wanted at Newcastle, which could imply he didn't at Burnley.
Did he mean BFC management or fans?

Nah. I think that's largely just a positive comment for the new club rather than a dig at the old one. I.e. Its not just the extra money.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 5:52 pmHe also said something about feeling wanted at Newcastle, which could imply he didn't at Burnley.

I've not watched a single press conference of any player we've sold in the past, not going to start now. Once they are out the door they are no longer our concern

I don’t think he was having a dig at us, per se, merely bigging up his new club which is to be expected. Hell, even the most die hard Burnley fan would’ve done the same - I’d sign for ******* Rovers if they offered a massive pay rise.
He was even complimentary towards the club and fans in interviews that I’ve read. Still think it’s great business for us, though.

Re: Chris Wood press conference on SSN
Asked about leaving Burnley at a press conference on Thursday afternoon, the 30-year-old said: “It wasn’t an easy decision. I just think it’s a great opportunity. spent four-and-a-half great years there, every single year I really enjoyed myself there. My team-mates, the staff, the club as a whole was fantastic.
“To be honest, I wish I’d left when Burnley were further up the league, but that’s just how it is and it’s just how football is sometimes. Nobody can plan these sorts of things, you’ve just got to look at what’s in front of you and how you’re doing with football at the point in time. It was a case of this is a massive opportunity and a massive club, and something that I couldn’t turn down.”

Well, it is a sort of pantomime really. It's become a long running TV programme vaguely (very) based around sport.
Booing for a bit of fun wouldn't do any harm.

Absolutely ridiculous statement. Get off this board, and don’t show your face again.
Re: Chris Wood press conference on SSN
The club sanctioned the move. The player is just incidental!
Re: Chris Wood press conference on SSN
I’d far rather our former players received nothing more than a brief, courteous applause. I’ve never got the whole “hive him hell” mentality. It’d only serve to fire me up, if I were in their boots.
Better to forget them and shift the focus on to getting behind our own players.

Have to confess I now regret not signing for them as a schoolboy. Think I contributed to Bill Fox’s heart condition, when He asked me who my faveroute player was and I replied Billy Hamilton, about six months before the takeoverWinstonswhite wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 7:35 pmDid I just read that right? But at the time I had no doubt Burnley would soon be along… instead, I met Tony Scholes and signed for junior clarets.

That’s pretty good from Wood . He will always be remembered though for his ‘comfort zone ‘ comment when us fans are feeling pretty pig sick at the mess we are in. He said: “I’m under no illusions Newcastle is going to be a big challenge for me but I know it can be potentially great for the club and for me. I’m a firm believer that you have to get out of your comfort zone to achieve greatness – or some sort of great footballing talent.”
He doesn’t say he was in his comfort zone at Burnley. But obviously folk are going to interpret it to fit whatever narrative they’ve fixed upon.

Ah, okay there is maybe more than one quote, so I stand corrected. Still don’t think it reflects badly on him, he’s just being honest. If he was in his comfort zone it was maybe because he was an automatic starter every week without real competition for his place, or because our style of play is too one-dimensional, or any number of reasons outside his control.Sean Dyche's Watch wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 4:39 amHe said 'at Burnley I was in my comfort zone, you never do anything in your comfort zone so I want to push myself to the next level'.

Re: Chris Wood press conference on SSN
It’s hard to imagine how fighting for league survival in the bottom three, knowing you are the main striker, the team needs your goals and being in one of the worst runs of form in your career puts you in the ‘comfort zone’. I can only imagine it was a clumsy ill thought out out turn of phrase. If he did mean it, it makes you wonder how people in individual sports like athletics, boxing, motorcycle racing etc etc etc manage to motivate themselves year after year. Perhaps it’s another stupid football thing.
