Brave move leaving our 2 world class bowlers out…will just have to hope Robinson and Wood can stay fit for any length of time and hopefully get Archer back at some point

I don't think Archer will play test cricket again.
Hope Parkinson and Mahmood get some games.

Re: England test match squad for West Indies
I’d heard that they might leave out Anderson & Broad. Not sure it’s the best decision.
Re: England test match squad for West Indies
I’m glad they have gone for a proper wicket keeper in Foakes…we still need a decent spinner to block up an end/take wickets,Leach isn’t that man
Re: England test match squad for West Indies
Who is Matt Fisher and what does he do ? Can't say I know anything about him.
Re: Jimmy Anderson
Ridiculous decision given he’s still our best bowler, had a decent enough Ashes and the batsmen were responsible for us getting trounced 4-0.
Re: England test match squad for West Indies
Glad Foakes is back. Unbelievable that Buttler kept the gloves for so long. Bit surprised about Anderson and Broad though.
Re: England test match squad for West Indies
I did say hopefully although I’m not that confident he will either

Competition winner.
One lucky reader will play for England in the West Indies. To be in with a chance, simply finish this sentence in less than 15 words:
"I think I should play for England because.... I can't be any worse than Rory ******* Burns"

There’s a busy summer ahead; give them a rest now.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 6:16 pmI’d heard that they might leave out Anderson & Broad. Not sure it’s the best decision.
We know what they can do and they’re a hell of a lot closer to the end of their careers than the beginning so it makes sense to try and bring some new blood in so we’re not going to end up in a position where they go and there’s nobody ready to replace them.
Re: Jimmy Anderson
Bizarre decision. However long he can play, he’s worth every minute.

Damn, I put Joseph as the answer, what was the answer ?TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 6:30 pmCompetition winner.

I agree, I think Jimmy should be the one to call time, he deserves that
Re: England test match squad for West Indies
Hope Parkinson is finally given a go. Surprised about both Broad and Anderson. Crawley isn’t in your list though?

Re: Jimmy Anderson
Maybe they are just managing Jimmy's workload with a busy summer schedule ahead, mind you if England could actually bat for more than a day, he and the rest of the bowlers might get the recovery time they need, as it any wonder our bowlers are getting injured given they are constantly bursting their backs match after match to dig the batsmen out of yet another hole they've dug for themselves.
Jimmy certainly deserves at least 1 more home series, and the chance to bow out in style, just as Cook did a few years ago with a century in his final innings.
I feel sorry for whoever has the daunting task of replacing him, because whoever it is will have mightily big boots to fill.

Re: Jimmy Anderson
Be good to see Jimmy getting a load of wickets for Lancashire and then putting two fingers up to England.

Re: Jimmy Anderson
Yes that thought did cross my mind also, if and when Jimmy retires from test cricket will he fancy another crack at the CC, Cookie is doing well enough, but it's always going to be easier for a batsman than a bowler to play longer in their career. The Enclosure wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 7:18 pmBe good to see Jimmy getting a load of wickets for Lancashire and then putting two fingers up to England.

Think Jimmy would fancy another year - Broad will be straight in to the commentary box I reckon.

Re: Jimmy Anderson
It was always the plan to limit Jimmy playing in away series and running him into the ground.
To leave Broad out as well is a shock but we will get stuffed there whatever team we put out.
We have won once there in 100 years or so.
Can Root survive another series loss is the question?

Re: Jimmy Anderson
I'm disappointed to see them dropped, but I also think the time is right. The team performance reached a nadir in Australia, we need a complete overhaul in the same way that BFC do and if you're doing that, then you need to rebuild for the future, which means going with the'younger' option in every position. Jay-Rod, Barnes and others have been great servants to the club and may perhaps have more still to contribute, but I'm sure no one would suggest we built for the future around them? This is no different.

Re: Jimmy Anderson
If England get stuffed in the Windies Root might fall on his sword, probably what's saving him is there isn't an obvious successor ATM.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 7:37 pmIt was always the plan to limit Jimmy playing in away series and running him into the ground.

I guess if you are going to blood young players somewhere like the WI is the place to do it, and sooner or later the old guard will be retiring, so it's wise to see which of the new crop are up to it if any.

Re: Jimmy Anderson
An ex team mate who I used to play at Somerset with summed this situation up perfectly.
He said Test cricket isn't about building up for an Ashes away series in 4 years, it's about getting your best available team out for every match with the odd inexperienced player being intergrated into a winning team.
I would totally agree that Jimmy, and SB have been used as scapegoats, even though they performed better than anybody in Australia and they have also been removed to protect Roots weak captaincy.
I've been told of numerous exapmples by somebody I know in the camp in Australia where the senior players questioned Root, and Silverwoods thinking regarding selection and tactics in particular, and they didn't like it.
That certainly explains some of the bizarre selections we witnessed out there.

Re: Jimmy Anderson
Root seems like a decent bloke, and is obviously our only world class batsman, but he's not a very good captain
Re: Jimmy Anderson
It’s a bit like Dyche dropping Mee and Tarks cos we can’t score. A nonsense decision.

Jimmy not happy at being left out, great news for Lancs though if he's looking to impress the England selectors, should hopefully mean plenty of wickets in the CC for him in the early season.https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/60496031

He spoke well about it on Tailenders podcast. Surely he’ll be back in for the summer once they’ve looked at some of the fringe bowlers (unless they play the same attack that started the first Ashes test).tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 10:47 amJimmy not happy at being left out, great news for Lancs though if he's looking to impress the England selectors, should hopefully mean plenty of wickets in the CC for him in the early season.https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/60496031

Re: England test match squad for West Indies
In English conditions Anderson, Broad and Woakes are three of the first names on the team sheet for me, I understand they have to prepare for life post Anderson & Broad, but both still have plenty to offer England, and it's important England start winning some tests and also series again, our record over the past 12 months has been abysmal to say the least, although that's mainly due to the batsman.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 10:49 amHe spoke well about it on Tailenders podcast.
