Reacher
Anyone caught this yet?
Binged every episode. Loved it. I am a Tom Cruise fan but this is a lot more like the character from the book.
Complete hokum of course , but very enjoyable.

Re: Reacher
We did. Watched it in two goes and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really struggled with Tom Cruise as Reacher. You do get a visual image of the main protagonist when reading the books. And Tom Cruise was not the image I had. This guy on the other hand.... Second series commissioned apparently.

Re: Reacher
The actor in this version is so much more like I imagined Reacher to be from the books.

Re: Reacher
Good dumb fun just like the books. Loved it.
Re: Reacher
We are saving it ... watching Bosch series 2 at the moment ... will watch Reacher when we finish that one before Bosch series 3
Re: Reacher
We binged it over 2 nights too and thought it was fantastic. Albeit seemed a little slow to get the story going but then BOOM, stuff happens. Totally agree about the portrayal of Reacher by Tom Cruise being off, that said, he did it well and I enjoyed his depiction of him - but the new actor, well that's definitely Reacher in my minds eye from reading the books.

Pretty impressive given it’s only been out a week or two

The only reason Cruise played Reacher in the films is that he bought the rights and cast himself.....talk about ego!

Lee Child appears in the opening few seconds of episode 1 apparently.

Re: Reacher
He's built like Reacher for sure, but he just comes across as a bit `robotic` cold and stand offish. Almost like the Terminator. For me, he's too far the opposite side of Tom Cruise's portrayal.

Re: Reacher
I think he’s very much in line with the books. Reacher’s “say nothing” approach coming through. He also does the monologues pretty well like in the books. Impressed with this adaption, can see it running for many series. No great budget requirements either.

Re: Reacher
It’s on my “too watch” list
As others have said you have an image of the guy from the books, and Cruise was not the image I had for the film lead (should have been Jim Caviezel imo), but Ritchson does fit that image

very much like the books, although tom cruise is still a good watch, he plays it like hes still maverick , where as Alan Ritchson is only 6;2 where as tom is a colosal 5:7 and Jack reacehr is a mountain of a man

Re: Reacher
I've just about read all the Reacher books and, until it was explained earlier, I couldn't understand how on earth Cruise could ever have been cast as Reacher.
I like this new series, I've only seen the first two and agree that he does come across as a little distant or stand-offish but, as it does in the books, I assume his character will begin to soften ever so slightly.
You have to admire the lad's instinct to "put things right", usually in spectacular fashion.

Re: Reacher
Another here who enjoyed watching this and with Reacher being much closer to the books.
Re: Reacher
I’m another one that has binged it in 2 sessions. Thought it was a bit long winded at times and slightly repetitive. He batters 4 people at once in nearly every episode, but in different ways. Loved the way he mercifully battered the 4 students just breaking the hands of 3 of them so one would be fit to drive to the hospital.
Enjoyed it overall.

Re: Reacher
watched it last week over 3 nights, a good tough guy romp to be taken as is... and yeah he reminded me of 'terminator' a few times!
Only read a couple of the books on holidays before. But for anyone who likes a similar read - Scot Mariani has a similar but British character. Good holiday reading etc

Am a real Reacher fan. Loved all the books. Thought Cruise did ok, whilst not actually looking like Reacher.
But really loved this series and looking forward to the next one.
Also another mention for the Bosch series. They are excellent!

it will appeal to wrestling fans. cartoon violence and the acting was the epitome of wooden. dreadful series.

Re: Reacher
There are books by Scott Blade whose character is Reacher’s son Cameron who follows in his father’s footsteps by travelling across the states hoping to find reacher.
Another series by the same author features Widow who is a similar character to Reacher.
Both good reads.
