At one point during the Iraq war, Apache squadrons had as many as 80% of their helicopters grounded. 80% out of commission meant only one in five helicopters were combat-capable. Only the US military could possibly afford to have enough of them in the first place to be able to field them effectively at that rate, and only the US military could possibly afford to keep repairing themLancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 3:59 pmThe ones that fly over my house regularly seem to be okay!

Local supermarkets still open in Kyiv, and largely stocked.
An indication of the incredible discipline and selflessness of the Ukrainian people. In most places in the western world, those shelves would’ve been stripped bare days ago.

Russia publicly admit they are losing people (even though it is believed the numbers are way higher than their claim)
"Russian Ministry of Defense: there are casualties among our comrades participating in a special military operation - 498 Russian soldiers died in the line of military duty, 1597 of our comrades were injured"

There will become a time, probably quite soon, when Russia will start to realise that they are miles behind in the information war, and will start to restrict access to the front lines for any journalist who isn't going to report on what they want to tell them
I never thought the Russians would get this caught out in an information war, but unless it can get through to the average Russian, then they will settle for that

Re: Russia Invades
An offensive on targets within Russia's borders carries the very real possibility of nuclear retaliation. The objective of the Ukrainians is to drive the Russians out of Ukraine, not defeat Russia militarily. Of course, outright destroying Russia's militarily capabilities stops the invasion of Ukraine dead in its tracks, but the price paid is escalation to nuclear war.

and those missiles would be better used elsewhere, like wiping out Russian troops and equipment currently in Ukraine. I've seen a few successful Ukrainian drone strikes, if anything, they need to ramp that up 10 fold and decimate areas where large troops are gathered, starting with that insanely long convoy of Russian vehicles.

well the Turkish drones they are using seem to be working but I've no idea how many they have access to. Very difficult to track drones........the USA has LOADS of them. One of the main operating bases (ie, where they control them from) is about an hour north of Vegas at Creech AFBKRBFC wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 8:51 pmand those missiles would be better used elsewhere, like wiping out Russian troops and equipment currently in Ukraine. I posted this yesterday:
I was reading an article earlier by someone with a lot of military years under his belt and he said the way that the Russians had strategically set up NATO would have won this war within an hour from the air.
The issue of course are the nukes which are seemingly taking NATO out of the equation (at the moment)

There doctrine when I was serving was coup de main tactics with overwhelming force. As an Air Defender if they came rolling over the German Plains my life expectancy was 6 minutes 7 days in they are reportedly still getting aircraft shot down by static AD sites not just manportable stuff crazy.
With that all said whoever said NATO would have won the war within 1 hour is talking out of his proverbial. 100% NATO would have had Air superiority in 1 hour maybe that is what he meant after that there would have been an air war bombing key mil sites and infrastructure for a few days followed by a ground invasion.
Seen a few tweets with captured documents saying the invasion was agreed on the 18th of Jan and that they expected the invasion to last 15 days, not sure that is gonna be correct now but hey.

Kherson captured, being run by a military administration
Melitopol/Khark'iv getting heavily bombed and shelled
Have to reiterate though, the Russians don't have the troops to control the areas they currently occupy, so their occupation completely depends on Ukrainians accepting it
This looks like a Russian supply convoy that has been ambushed, apparently in the Kherson oblast, but the people who have ambushed it look like Ukrainian civilians/militia
Unclear if its happening behind Russian lines, but if it is, then the Russians are going to have supply issues

What would happen if half of Europe's civilians decided to walk into Ukraine unarmed - would Putin still bomb the hell out of it knowing that these people were from NATO countries ?

Anyone with a commercial radio and the correct frequencies can work out what is happening they aren’t using secure comms and a lot of civilian radios so they are easily pinpointed. They seem to be barely using there jet aircraft as well which I find very strange as they have a few hundred in the area, they are holding them back for something but what?
The whole thing is a cluster but they will still achieve there aims, unless putin falls from within somehow, just because of sheer volume they can keep throwing at it. Even if the majority of there volume is fairly poor conscripted soldiers.

Re: Russia Invades
There’s a lot more to all this than meets the eye. I have resisted posting on this thread because I simply wasn’t aware of the extent of the conflict between these two states, only that there had been a Ukrainian coup where the right had ousted the left in 2014. I have been looking into it and have been astounded by the somewhat barbaric things that happened at that time between many varying factions. It is all extremely complicated but I’ve discovered one particularly nasty event where Ukrainians set fire to a building (they did, in fact, set many buildings alight) that was occupied by a great many Russians and proceeded to shoot them as they attempted to flee the blaze. It was in Odessa. I’m certainly not trying to justify the invasion but it does give you an insight as to why this is perhaps all happening. Perhaps one or two individuals, such as our rather pathetic foreign secretary, should read up on the facts a little before making ridiculous suggestions that British citizens should make their way to the Ukraine to join the fight for freedom.
