James Tarkowski appreciation
I had to post just to acknowledge James Tarkowski’s performances. Besides a handful of poor performances before Xmas he’s done well this season, even having to get used to playing the left side of central defence.
We all know he’s leaving in the summer, and you’d understand his efforts dropping off, but he’s been immense in many games this season, and I for one can one doff my cap in admiration and wish him well, wherever he chooses to go, providing he continues for the next 9 games. He’s been fully professional to date.

Absolutely this. He’s a colossus.
And will leave with legend status if he can keep us up.

Yes the idiots on here had a down on him because of a few misplaced long passes and his expensive car, not unusual for a Premier League player.

I've watched Burnley for almost 70 years and I think he is the best centre back I have seen play for us.

Will leave on a free but will be one of the best 3 million or so quid we've ever spent on a player. Saved us in so many games. How the likes of Mings always gets a call up over him is beyond me.

Fingers crossed we pull off the remarkable and survive, he gets carried away in the moment and puts pen to paper on a new deal for us .
Unlikely and in fairness he has earned a big pay day. Tbh I definitely won’t begrudge him that regardless of whether we stay up, or go down.
He’s been an absolute pleasure to watch as a centre half. Both him and Ben Mee. Colossal pairing for us.

His whole body language before, during and after matches, shows how much it means to him.
A true great. Considering how long he's been leaving for, it's even more amazing.

Re: James Tarkowski appreciation
Surely if we stay up Mee and Tarks need to be encouraged to stay with a signing fee etc etc without breaking the bank with money £PL incoming?
It will be so costly to replace with just Collins and Long (Long has never let us down but is not really much better than L1 / Champ').
If we go down... (60/40 we won't) - We'll still struggle to replace.

Re: James Tarkowski appreciation
Was brilliant tonight
Started the second goal as well by skinning DCL on the touchline despite having him all over his back
And to think people said he wasn’t committed to playing for us this season

I thought it positive that at half time he was gesturing to everyone to get down the tunnel quickly. It was a real”we can do this” piece of body language.

Was going to add this, did extremely well for both of them.
He’s been fully professional as well as an outstanding defender. His passion, along with Mee’s hopeful return soon, is exactly what we need.
If only we had a similar calibre player in midfield.

Awesome again tonight.
If we were to manage to stay up somehow I'd seriously be offering him 10/15m signing on fee just to give him a serious option.
May still not be enough but we would have to replace anyway at that kind of money.

Ahhh. The build up to the goal for me start with the throw in so had “forgot” about the pre-build-upBordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 8:17 amCame out to block the shot then put the ball through for Vydra to chase. A lot happened after mind.

Tarkowski
Remember when some numptys said he couldn't be assed. Arguably player of the season again. When he goes he should go with everyone's blessing. Best defender in my lifetime

Re: Tarkowski
I wish we could keep him, particularly if we stay up. 3.5million. A snip. Hes a superb player. Great physical presence and strong in the air, which is an area Collins needs to improve in.

Re: Tarkowski
If we did avoid the drop I am not ruling out he could be talked into staying. He is a phenomenal tackler-his timing is perfect, and that includes inside the penalty area where defenders in general are nowadays paranoid about tackling. For me too the best Clarets defender I have seen since first supporting Burnley in 1960/61. I have a feeling he could go to Leicester-I know Rogers is a big fan, and for them Johnie Evans is playing less and less. Him and Forfana would be a formiddable duo

My moment of the night. Tarks skinning DC-L and then bending a pass down the line with the outside of his foot to set Charlie away for JRods’ equaliser. The photo is him celebrating his own skill as Charlie heads off to goal.
Re: Tarkowski
Yes Leicester will be an option but I think Newcastle and others may be. Wish we could keep him but the money the likes of Newcastle could offer will tule us out.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 4:06 pmIf we did avoid the drop I am not ruling out he could be talked into staying. Dyche's approach when asked about the possibility of Tarkowski leaving has always stuck with me. His support and understanding of the player is being paid back by the player,

Re: James Tarkowski appreciation
He looks like he is determined to leave in a way that will see him fondly remembered, unlike when he left Brentford.
We have 3 or 4 players that probably surpass what our rivals have in those positions, certainly Tarky, Pope and Cornet. Maybe Mee too. I rate Pope far higher than Pickford, who instils a bit of panic in his defence despite good shot stopping and distribution.
That superiority in those key positions will hopefully be the deciding factor.

Pickford's distribution is almost faultless, but his decision making is erratic. Defenders can't trust that.
