FAO CT

Post by Tricky Trevor » Fri Apr 22, 2022 7:46 pm

Hi CT. Have you any available stats for our temporary managers? If possible back to the 80s, please.
Top of my head they seem to have done us proud.

Did Dobbo get a Temp Manager role when Coyle left in 2010?

Yes, but we didn’t play a game.

Stuart came in with Brian Laws. He’s assistant manager now at Fulham.

The same shivers for me with Middlemass.

Always rated Stuart Gray who l think did a good job at Southampton after being thrown into the job but was then dumped. Probably one of two crappier performances I remember by BFC was away at Hull when Clive was manager. I think there had just been a storm and the stand roof was partly missing like our skill level.

I've just seen the "selection committee" on the wiki page above. Was that common for teams at the time? 1945-1948. I'm not sure how many were in it or who they were.

Edit: actually I read the citation thing - [f] After Tom Bromilow left the club in 1935 to manage Crystal Palace, the directors decided to not appoint a team manager due to economical reasons. Team affairs became a joint effort between chairman Tom Clegg, secretary Alf Boland and senior trainer Billy Dougall.[24]

Hello Tony,
Right, my mind has clearly gone gaga.
Just after Coyle had left.
Have I imagined Dobo leading the team out at old Trafford, we lost 2.0. Jimenez scored.
Were the Burnley fans not chanting
D, o, dob, Dobo. Dobo?

Brian Laws had been in charge for a matter of days when we played United at Old Trafford, we lost 3-0.Berbatov, Rooney and Diouf.

You are right.

Dobo and pashley appointed on the 10th Jan.
Brian laws appointed on 13th Jan.
Utd match 16 th Jan.

I wonder who picked the team?
Did we sing about Dobson? Was he present?

I was sat with utd fans so not certain.

Dobbo and someone else definitely took the team at Old Trafford. It was a good performance that we should have won.
Laws was asked about how good our attacking play was after the game that he watched from the stands and he replied very good, perhaps too attacking.
The alarm bells rang then.

Brian Laws got a fantastic reception at Old Trafford and there was a real sense of togetherness and defiance between the fans, manager and players that day.

Cant remember any mention of Dobson at all

My memory is shocking. Just read a match report and doesn't mention Dobson just Laws.

It's strange two of us remember Dobson coming out with the team.

Laws after the game :

""We came without fear and it showed. We had a couple of good opportunities and didn't take them but we counter-attacked very well."

"We were a bit gung-ho in the last 30 minutes and that left us vulnerable. We have work to do there because there are times when you are away from home where you have to be more patient."

What about Jimmy Mullen?
1991 Played 2 Won 2.
2-0 v Carlisle
6-2 v Wrexham.

Was there ever a caretaker manager in place in between any of Buchan, Cavanagh, Miller or Casper?

I had no real issue with Laws. He was just the wrong appointment at a very difficult time. I think Brendan Flood had a lot of influence in that decision.

Decent assessment of the game that. Sure Nugent missed two one on ones.

Laws didn’t watch from the stands. He was on the touchline and in charge. Dobbo was sat up in the coaching area but Laws was very much in charge.

And if I remember correctly he said we played well but was concerned how we went gung-ho after we’d conceded the first goal.

None - we went straight from one to the other.
