Re: Your team for Spurs
I’d go 5-3-2 try to frustrate them and hit them on the counter. Or even 5-4-1, a point would be good if we can get it. We are too depleted to take the game to them.
Is Mee out for the season now?
We could do with him in for this game.

Should Chelsea beat Leeds on Wednesday and Arsenal beat Spurs on Thursday that will be the top four and fifth places sorted out. May get much less intense game on Sunday.

Re: Your team for Spurs
I think we should play 4141 wide with Cork or Stevens as a Half Back or Anchor Man and Weghorst up top with inside forwards/wingers wide supporting him.
Or even a 4231.
Don't think 5 at the back will work for our team, it's only good for shutting up shop at the end.

Re: Your team for Spurs
You’re right Colburn, Lowton is too good to be on the bench and Roberts is a real attacking threat. A bit of a risk playing Roberts at right wing back from the kick off but he’ll add much needed energy to midfield and imo (and Colburn’s) it’s a risk worth taking.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 8:24 pmPope

Re: Your team for Spurs
4-5-1 with McNeil having a free role .
Pope
Lowton Collins Tarks (hopefully) Taylor
Roberts Brownhill McNeil Cork Pieters
Weghorst
Spurs don't really play with out and out wingers , they play mostly through the middle . So maybe play 4-2-3-1 with Brownhill and Cork dropping deaper .

Re: Your team for Spurs
Aside from the obvious CB issue the return of Pieters and Cornet gives us the option to change the shape, protect the defence and hopefully frustrate Spurs
I'd definitely bring Lowton back and consider pushing Roberts further forward
Pieters would seem the obvious choice at LCB whatever the formation - but I can never remember him playing there and when Mee has been injured previously SD has chosen to play Tarkowski on his weaker side to accommodate Long and more recently Collins
Pieters could also play DCM behind Cork and Brownhill or left midfield - which would be a far better option than Lennon
Hoping the available players will enforce a shift away from 4-4-2

What's this fascination with playing players out of position? We have a defensive midfielder in Stephens. Why would you put a left back there?HOPE AND GLORY wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 9:39 pmPope

Re: Your team for Spurs
Based on the fact Stephens has hardly played, when he has he's been poor, Dyche didn't play him while we've been struggling in the middle (although you could say the same for cork) and also the fact that Jackson hasn't involved him while only having two centre midfielders available in Cork and BrownhiIl, I'd go to as far to say that he's obviously not pulling any trees up in training. He's been a poor signing and I wouldn't want to hang my hat on him saving us.
I'd also argue he's absolutely nothing to play for obviously leaving on a free. I don't even think he's got a chance of winning a new deal. Would rather see Gomez Mancini or Helm than him!

I'm lead to believe we are going with a back 5 with wingbacks tomorrow and either Lowton or Pieters operating as a CB

If this is the case then I think it’s reasonable to aim for a clean sheet.

I just hope we play five at the back.
I also hope Spurs are over confident and we get at least a point.
I can’t put out a team as I have no idea who is fully fit.

Think that 4-5-1 is the way to go. Pack midfield, frustrate them. Make it as ugly as possible. Stop the service into Kane & Son.
I'd gladly take a point now given that we have lost by an aggregate of 9 goals to nil in our last two games there.
So my line up would be.

We win tomorrow and Leeds lose and we are safe with 2 game’s spare. Gotta think positive

Re: Your team for Spurs
Last time we didn't get a tubbing at Spurs was in 2018 when we went five at the back and lost to a last minute Christian Eriksen goal after frustrating them for much of the game, so I wouldn't be surprised to see us do something similar this time.
Incidentally our team that day was:
Hart
Bardsley Tarks Long Mee Taylor
Lennon Westwood Cork Brady
Barnes

Re: Your team for Spurs
Don't generally get draw on guessing the team but given the likelihood of key absentees I'd be inclined to go with Pieters at left back and moving CT further forward. Not ideal but it will give us a certain balance.

Re: Your team for Spurs
I don't think it will matter what team we put out. A tubbing is on the cards.
Re: Your team for Spurs
The aim to me would be to frustrate Spurs for as long as we can and nick something at the end. Going down at the slighted knock really slowing the game down.

I hope I'm wrong, but we concede a stupid amount of chances (even early on in games) which Son and Kane will bury.

Their 3 centre backs aren’t the most physical especially with Romero injured so I’d be going direct and asking Barnes to win cheap free kicks at every opportunity

Haha, the full backs were in error, can only put that down to a touch of sun stroke. Pieters and Lawton at Left Back and Right back respectively… But wingers free to work it out for themselves- switching to keep their full backs facing different challenges.

Re: Your team for Spurs
I have no clue as to how bad his injury is, but I know he won’t feature again this season-if at all ever again. Shame as he’s a really good player, but he’s waited for his move and he won’t risk that not coming off at this late stage.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 9:06 amFor those of you who think Tarkowski might be playing, I would definitely not be building your hopes up.
Got our work cut out today. Hoping for an “after the Lord Mayors parade” type performance from Spurs after they did arsenal over.

Glad Cork is in but hope there isn’t the slightest risk in him playing. We need him fit for the next two!

As harsh as it sounds, I’m glad to see the back of Weghorst for this game, and probably the subsequent games actually.
