It’ll be a long time before we have back to back keepers as good as Heaton and Pope we’re for us. We’ve been spoiled.

I feel like we may announce a signing tomorrow
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I’m comfortable with Pope being sold and £10m seems reasonable given his contract status and us being relegated. He’s an excellent keeper and he’ll be missed, but he’s not good enough technically for the current top few clubs, so Newc seems a logical next step for him given the wages that will be involved, even if the funds are tainted. Hope he does well next year and improves his distribution and he might have a chance with England.

No mention of it being a loan, and with Kompany saying they’re a last resort for him, I wonder if it’s permanent with buy back clauses inserted (ala the keeper who’s joined Southampton).RVclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 6:40 pmwww.footballinsider247.com/sources-burn ... od-bellis/

Surely if there is any asset stripping going on there won't be any players incoming.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 6:32 pmSo the asset stripping theorists were correct after all. Some serious incoming action is needed after a dark day selling our best keeper in years.

No surprise Pope has been picked by a PL club, he's one of those who generally performed to his usual standards last season, and our relegation certainly wasn't down to him.
Shame it had to be Newcastle, but that's life, best of luck in the next phase of your career Nick, and thanks for the memories.
Now we'll see whether his fee covers a least a couple of badly needed incomings.

Arijanet Muric, this Man City keeper will be Pope's replacement he's 6 foot 6 and likes to play it out from the back, 23 years old and a perfect keeper for the way Kompany wants to play.

15 plus add ons for Pope? Add on the 25 for Wood and the Saudi state are doing an excellent job of clearing our debt.

I'd be asking for all of the 15 upfront along with the rest of the 25 they owe for woodMilltown1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 7:11 pm15 plus add ons for Pope? Add on the 25 for Wood and the Saudi state are doing an excellent job of clearing our debt.

We have had some good seasons from Nick Pope and made a massive profit on him.We have 2 cracking keepers left to take his place.
I don’t think Pope would have been comfortable playing out from the back.
Talk of getting 20 million plus was just plain stupid.

So a NEWCASTLE journo says we asked for 40 mill but they talked us down by 25 mill to 15 mill??? Some of you need to give your head a serious wobble. Pope will be class for the next 4-5 years. We wouldn't knock 62.5% off the price in negotiating. Even my 8 year old knows that.

I think certain people need to get used to the reality of our new business model.
This isn't about asset stripping to clear debts. The new business model is buy low, develop and sell for profit. I'm fine with that.

Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I know you’ve got it in for Pace - I’m yet to be convinced. The time to judge though (and it’s a well worn path with Burnley transfer windows) is at the end of August.
We should then have a bit more of insight:
• Rough Net spend
• Have we recouped enough to clear some more debt
• Have we recruited well enough to cover the outgoings
• Have we recruited well enough for a crack at promotion
There’s no point slating the deals for outgoing players when we don’t know the true figures and don’t know the intricacies behind the deal.

If that is from his Uncle, I’d imagine Pope will be pretty bloody embarrassed, on a few fronts!Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 7:37 pmSounds like Nick Pope’s uncle is devastated to see the back of Burnley on twitter.

If we sell Pope and sign Muric I can see little reason for us keeping Hennessey or Norris (assuming we can find buyers), even possibly sell BPF.

Yet so far we’ve re-signed Jay Rod (32), Cork (32) and Barnes (32).

Barnes chose to activate his extension - nowt we could do with that. Jay and cork are excellent players at this level. Do you seriously think when people mean buy low sell high that the entire 1-11 is going to be made up of kids? There needs to be a blend.

£15m towards the £48m owed to Garlick, Collins and Cornet should cover the rest once we've paid Stoke and Lyon the full transfer fees.

If it had been up to me, I’d have added Ben Mee to that list too. We will need these sorts of players even more if we are bringing in a good few youngsters and / or players from outside the UK.

Fao Guitargeorge I was and I always got pxxxxx off when directors sold off our top assets with little regard for the fans
Directors are a necessary evil in football but the sense of being let down doesn't improve with age.
We had £90m parachute payment and Pace claimed our finances were in a good place after his loan renegotiation .Obviously he was misquoted.

I’m all for buying young kids with potential high resale value, but I think we also need a marquee signing - much like Andre Gray last time we dropped.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 7:42 pmBarnes chose to activate his extension - nowt we could do with that. I just don’t think ALK have the money to accommodate it.

Does make me wonder if Newcastle are after someone else without a sell on clause and we’ve agreed to do this on the cheap for a bigger fee elsewhere.
Otherwise just cannot believe we’d sell a keeper with some of the best stats in the Prem for £8-10m!!!

The problem is we're now lumbered with 3 ageing average central midfielders and 2 poor old strikers. Blocking the progression of our youth teamers, blocking further incomings. Can't say I'm all that excited to see a Brownhill Cork and Rodriguez Barnes core, all over again.

We have an abundance of PL experience. We will need ALL of that to get promoted.
Mix that experience with half a dozen exciting young players, and it should stand us in good stead.
Any reasonable person can see the value in that.

We’ll see how it’s panning out nearer Christmas time but I’d have personally let Barnes and Rodriguez go.
I understand we might not have had an option with Barnes, though.

I'm sorry mate but to add Brownhill to your statement is just wrong. I get feeling your going off tv and stats rather than watching a football game live, if not I am StrugglingKRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 7:46 pmThe problem is we're now lumbered with 3 ageing average central midfielders and 2 poor old strikers.
