Unbelievable. We get 2 days off work to spend with our families and some people would rather be at work because they don’t like the royal family . .

Re: Trooping the Colour!
The public purse spending millions on one of the worlds richest family, in the middle of a cost of living crisis where hard working people are struggling to heat and feed themselves, shows me 100% what is wrong with the world we live in today.
I have no personal feeling one way or another to the royal family as people (except for Pedo nonce's like Andy) but this is not the time we should be p*ssing money away on some meaningless anniversary.
If the Queen had anything about her she would funded it herself through her own massive personal wealth and I think that would have been a great gesture that the whole country could have got behind.
Just have a think how many desperate family's could the government helped with the money they've chucked at this pointless jubilee

Let’s ground the Battle of Britain memorial flight team as well because that cost a fortune to run. Cancel the D Day and VE day celebration and while we’re at it let’s not waste any more money on Remembrance Sunday. In fact let’s just forget about everything this country has ever achieved.

Re: Trooping the Colour!
If you think there is a comparison with the Queen just staying alive and events like the battle of Britain and D-Day you are absolutely deluded.
Also if you think the money spent on these events are anywhere near what this jubilee event is costing you are just completely uninformed and clueless.
If we want to celebrate great men and women who had very little but gave everything they did have for this country then that sounds fantastic but if we want to spend millions on a women who's basic achievement is outliving her father for 70 years whilst living the most privileged and luxurious life possible then Im gonna say hold on a minute
Ask yourself if you had a choice of fighting in the battle of Britain, landing on the beaches of Normandy or living your life as a King or Queen what would you see as a great sacrifice and what would you see as living the life of riley?

Strange isn’t it, like how almost all of our annual holidays were won by the trade unions but they’re still slated constantly.

It's all just a bit tacky, isn't it? It's very strange for a supposedly modern, advanced and progressive country to degrade itself in this way.
Each to their own. I understand that some people get a real kick out of it, but I think the whole pantomime is embarrassingly out of date and it's time the country grew up a bit.

I'd rather it was on here than in the midst of the celebrations (one of the reasons I'm not going to my local jubilee party is that I don't agree with it but I don't want to have to explain why I don't agree with it to people who just want to have a good time) I think

Re: Trooping the Colour!
I’m no Royalist at all but as a military procession it is excellent. The effort and practice to do this to perfection is impressive and as a country we do it very well. For me it is providing respect to the armed forces. It certainly meant a lot to the ex WW2 soldiers interviewed.

Just on finances alone.
20/21 Sovereign's Grant = £86 million.
To pay for members of her family, travel, catering, recommissioning of palaces. Employment of thousands of staff, etc.
Financial experts in 2017 calculated the economy was boosted by £1.7 billion, due to the monarchy.
I make no comment, it speaks for itself.

That's just it, they want an elected head of state, so that in itself makes it s political appointment.
Someone like Boris or Corbyn.
Let's abolish thousand + years of history and tradition, Boris fancy a stint as head of state?

If you don’t agree with the monarchy or are ashamed of our British history, go and do something useful then on this bank holiday like topple another statue.

Re: Trooping the Colour!
Just demonstrating how easy it is to take an extreme view that has no basis like others have done. Like referring to people as Corbynistas or lefties because they don’t agree with the scale of the jubilee celebrations.
It’s impossible to determine how much money the royal family generate through tourism, and whether this outweighs their cost. But even if they were hugely financially beneficial, would that reason enough to persevere with them? Take a step back, forget about history and tradition and think about how bonkers it is that the country is ruled by someone who happens to be born into an elite family.
Obviously we’re processed through history and tradition to think that it is normal for us to be subjects to the monarchy, but the whole system belongs in the Middle Ages. I find the razzmatazz that surrounds it equally baffling.

But it's a bit disappointing that when they open Buckingham Palace to the public during the summer months at least one junior member of the Royal family isn't around to offer advice and help with the guided tours.
Would certainly enhance the experience for many of the tourists, especially those that come from Asia or the U.S.A.
