Blocked!
Was checking the official club Twitter account for news of the first day of pre-season and was shocked to discover that I’ve been blocked! Has this happened to anyone else? I can only think I was blocked because I criticised a recent tweet promoting a Business Club scheme which depicted a video that literally showed people getting pi$$ed in a posh bar with no mention of what the scheme actually was. If that’s what people get blocked for these days then it is incredibly petty - seems they are unwilling to take any sort of criticism from anyone.
Does anyone know who runs the official account?

Is it an indefinite ban or like a 30 day quarantine thing? Think I said the p-word - not the worst word I could have used but again seems very petty to me.

Pretty sure someone I follow on twitter did that and got back in (but that was when Daz Bentley worked for us, I don't know who you'd talk to it about now)

Re: Blocked!
They blocked me because I was sweary and rude after the Hanover friendly, I emailed in and Daz Bentley unblocked me and apologised.
I think it's a good policy to be honest. The people running the Twitter account are just doing a job and don't deserve to have knobheads like me sending them nasty tweets about decisions they have no control over. Sometimes it will mean they block people who don't really deserve it but that's just life.

Re: Blocked!
Blocking for falling foul of a stated code of conduct is fine, but if it is random, knee jerk and undeserved, and IF that person is also a substantial paying customer such as a STH who uses that account to stay abreast, that is entering into dangerous territory.
Don’t know the facts of this case so not commenting on that specifically.

Re: Blocked!
They probably have a list of words/phrases which are flagged when used and results in a ban. You can understand it from a certain point of view with how footballers have been abused on social media over the past few months.
The resolution would be to contact the social media team and explain and I am sure they will unblock you, the trouble you now have is actually trying to locate the person/people who run the account and getting a reply from them.

Any form of racism should quite rightly lead to a ban so I think they have got this spot onburnleybassman wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:19 amIs it an indefinite ban or like a 30 day quarantine thing? Think I said the p-word - not the worst word I could have used but again seems very petty to me.
Re: Blocked!
It'll be whoever runs it, reading through replies and treating it as trolling and just blocking the user. There are celebs who actually employ people to go through and block people who give any abuse.claretburns wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:49 amThey probably have a list of words/phrases which are flagged when used and results in a ban. Re: Blocked!
Interesting policy…blocked for a swear word (fair enough if that’s policy and no apology follows) yet time after time, BOTs are left leaving their sex services in the replies????

Re: Blocked!
I think any form of discrimination should see an account rightly banned. But as I said above it does seem very petty to be blocked for using the p-word.Penwortham_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 12:31 pmAny form of racism should quite rightly lead to a ban so I think they have got this spot on
EDIT - For info, I haven’t actually received any correspondence about being blocked or the reason why.

Re: Blocked!
Considering children use Twitter and the club has an image to protect, I think blocking people who use offensive language on their feed is probably justified.burnleybassman wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 12:48 pmI think any form of discrimination should see an account rightly banned. I don't think there's any suggestion that there was any racist element to this.Penwortham_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 12:31 pmAny form of racism should quite rightly lead to a ban so I think they have got this spot on
The poster was clear that it referred to people who had been drinking in hospitality.
If there was any racist element to the tweet then I very much doubt that the poster would be bringing this to our attention.

Re: Blocked!
Good on them.
Hopefully people will learn that you can’t just go around saying what you want on social media without consequence.
I can’t think of any reason that would warrant criticism or the use of foul language.
Hopefully the block can be undone but I hope it is a lesson learned on perhaps thinking before posting.
If you feel something is wrong with what has been posted, the civil and rational way of dealing with it is through the maturity of contacting the club via a DM or otherwise on a 1-2-1 basis with your concerns rather than swearing or being aggressive/rude towards the club.

Re: Blocked!
No it’s not at all. You shouldn’t get treated differently because of the fact you are a STH. It doesn’t give anyone a right to have less common decency towards the club and/or any of its employees.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:42 amBlocking for falling foul of a stated code of conduct is fine, but if it is random, knee jerk and undeserved, and IF that person is also a substantial paying customer such as a STH who uses that account to stay abreast, that is entering into dangerous territory.

There are many outlets to receive information. The website, other social media accounts and on here as an example.
Just time people realised that you can’t go about getting upset about a video which showed what looked like a networking event.
If people are that reliant on these lines of communication then perhaps they should be more respectful of them.

Apologies, my poor attempt at humour was wasted.
Re: Blocked!
Consider yourself well and truly wrist-slapped ... how very dare you deign to use humour on threads like this ... you should sit on the naughty step for 20 minutes

If the club had any ambition, there would be more than one step!

There are several programs that come with a banned word list, or one that can be edited... But that shouldn't be relied on 100%, account needs to be made of context, frequency etc, there has to be human interaction otherwise scunthorpe would never get a mentionclaretburns wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:49 amThey probably have a list of words/phrases which are flagged when used and results in a ban. I can see now how it might have been intended as a humorous reply, but in future don't forget to add a "smiley" so that we all recognise it as such.

Re: Blocked!
I got blocked from liking/commenting on the official fb page- it was strange because the only time I interacted with that page was to ask how to pay for/collect a charity shirt I had won in an auction and they even replied telling me how ………
Then a few days later I checked something and had been blocked from commenting/reacting to posts.

Re: Blocked!
I agree with you but the point I was making is that the club are solely communicated through this medium at times, so if you are a paying customer you deserve to be able to see the tweets IF you haven’t done anything wrong. There is a grey area where one person may not feel they have done anything wrong but another will.clarethomer wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 2:39 pmNo it’s not at all. What I said was if it is indiscriminate and not consistently applied within a visible code of conduct (a general point not an accusation because I don’t know if they do or not). That would be fine and I agree anything to clean up the cesspit of social media is good.

Re: Blocked!
I think calling some one out or calling an organisation out can be dificult for moderators as they are damend if they dont remove or block posts and damed if they do.
I recently had a post removed from this site due to my wording of the owners of a club, I think I was right in what I put but it was removed.
My own opinions are that who ever removed it have done so for the benefit of the forum, but it could be argued they are supporting the thing I was complaining about
