Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I dont see why you think I am wielding the axe. I have already said that the three existing midfielders will be part of the squad, and we have been severely lacking in numbers for two seasons in CM. This department literally picked itself for two seasons.Who knows they may play so well under VK that they hold their places.I also said in a previous post it is important to keep some of the existing characters to gel the dressing room with so many young faces joining.
Personally I don't think they are the front runners for midfield in the new season. I suspect you are from the camp of "it worked this way in the past so dont change it" which is fair enough, by the fact you are quoting the two championship promotion under SD . Whereas I am in the camp of it was not working, for the past two seasons, so we need a different plan, different ideas, and in some cases new legs

With all due respect but talk about disrespectful.warksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 10:13 amI am not saying that Westwood and Cork have not been great players in the past and served BFC very well. In the case of Cork he was playing for us (very well) under Brian Laws.Thats going back a very long time. He cannot keep going. No one has invented a cure to stop the ageing process. We extended both Cork and Westwood's contracts a few years ago, which was recognition of their performances. Arguably other PL clubs would have let them go. Nostalgia will not get you out of the Championship. It needs an element of young, hungry and athletic legs and thankfully VK is well aware of this.A little more of this thinking and we might still be in the PL. If Cork was that valuable and when deliberating on his recent contract renewal , why did no other club want to ride off his huge experiences, after all he was free. I think in the case of Barnes & Cork both have remained with us as to quote Chris Wood, they can remain in their comfort zone
Cork was playing well for us under Brian Laws What about when we qualified for Europe? Yes these players are older, but you're initial post said you didn't understand why people considered Cork a pedigree premier league player. I think the reasons are fairly obvious, he's played the majority of his career at that level, and been capped by England. Maybe Cork and Westwood have reached a point where they struggled in a midfield two in the system we were deploying but that doesn't mean that he or Westwood don't have "premier league pedigree". You're also suggesting that Cork want's an easy ride which Is just something you've made up based on absolutely nothing. It's no wonder threads turn into heated debates when posters like you post crap like this about our players to be honest.

Somebody on twitter yesterday afternoon posted that the player had left the training camp and flown back to the UK for talks. This morning a Coventry fan admitted it was a wind up and it appears he is still in Spain and expected to play in a friendly.
Maybe things have moved on but doesn't seem that way at the moment.

As a rule it tends not to work out too well if you try to integrate more than 4-5 new players into a team all in one go, especially as many will be new and inexperienced at this level.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 10:21 amVK is well aware we need a mixture of youth and experience to move forwards.
He's probably also well aware that losing so many players at once can cause massive disruption and can lead to a club struggling, hence retaining certain players.
I'm not sure what axe it is you're trying to grind, but you're starting to look a bit odd.
When Dyche took us up last time it was a mixture of experience and younger players, same first time too.
Did you happen to miss that?
Obviously there are exceptions, but generally it tends to lead to problems.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
This is a really good point. Imagine if Cornet had been available for the first few games last season? We stay up.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 10:27 amI think people forget we have about 8 games before the window closes. On that basis we aren't in any hurry to sell to the first bidder, we can hang on and see if we get better offers elsewhere.
It also gives those players an idea of which way our club is going. IF we can get off to a good start, show the potential of a real promotion push, then maybe these players can be convinced to help us get back to the Prem, rather than leave us to sit on the bench somewhere else.
There are still a lot of vagaries in any situation. I hope all of Collins, Brownhill, McNeil and Cornet stay. I think it would be better for them, long term, as it would be for us. Who knows, but fingers crossed.
A few points difference in May, earned in August, can BE the difference. They are our assets, we should use them, even if selling later next month remains an option.

Good players in a side that clearly didn't have enough time to gel together.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I think Kompany with the player's he's going for will go with this formation, Twine in the false 9 with the RW and LW running in behind, a bit like how Liverpool play.jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 9:24 amI think you could make a case for getting them all in the team without any sales. If O’Hare does sign, then we’re probably looking at:
————————————--New
———————-Collins———Harwood-Bellis
—Roberts———-Cork————-Brownhill————-Taylor
——————-McNeil——O’Hare——-Cornet
—————————————Twine
Subs: BPF, Lowton, McNally, Egan-Riley, Dodgson, Bastien, Gudmundsson, Rodriguez, Barnes
They could all fit, with the current personnel - so I wouldn’t necessarily see one having to leave to accommodate. We have lost so many players and need these options just to get our squad back to capacity really. The likes of Twine, Cornet, O’Hare and McNeil would all be able to swap positions in such a fluid forward line so it could be that Cornet goes through the middle.
I personally do expect Cornet to be sold though, just that I don’t see this potential transfer guaranteeing it/being due to it.

Totally agree with this - both that we’d have stayed up had Cornet been available in the early games, and that the early games could be vital.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 10:45 amThis is a really good point. Vital in points we can gain but also momentum and confidence we can create by getting off to a winning start.
Beat managerless Huddersfield, then Luton are beatable at home and you have Watford - who haven’t signed too many to my knowledge? That will be a tough game, then some easier on paper.
Get off to a good start and we could add a few £m to players sale prices and set ourselves in good stead.

We've made some very promising and positive signings so far and I include Dodgson in that, but some people are very clearly getting rather giddy about it all. The Waddle article has come at a good time I feel and possibly should be mandatory bed time reading for all! (Including the sequel which was what happened after 3.00 pm on the first game of the season!)

We need to be getting a central striker in as this Lukeba bloke is not looking to be heading our way. We know this is the toughest nut and I'm sure VK is scouring the market.

Seri was hailed as some sort of massive coup for Fulham when they signed him 4 years ago. There were comparisons with Kante.
He pulled up no trees and got farmed out on loan a few times. He will turn 31 before the season starts.
Might prove to be a decent signing, but top players don’t end up at Hull.

Might be more at home in the Championship mind. Much prefer us signing Bastien, right age, could still develop plenty.
