Westy on comms
Just wondered if anyone watching / listening on Clarets + on Tuesday picked up anything interesting from Westy on comms?

Re: Westy on comms
He's pretty good and very balanced too which makes the commentary much more enjoyable. Reckon he'd p*ss himself laughing if he read the rate the ref thread comments cos the match some people on here seem to see is nowt like what me, Lee and and anyone else with a grasp of reality actually see.
With regards stuff about the squad then he has some nice stories but doesn't reveal anything of note ad you would expect from a serving player

Re: Westy on comms
He didn't seem bothered about the fouls they were doing on us, just took it as what fellow pro's do.
He said Brownhill's dad had judged the MoM comp for his son to win.

Re: Westy on comms
He also said that when THB I think it was got booked it was a good foul.
And the cross that lead to their goal should have been cut out

Said he wasn’t enjoying his football last season almost falling out of love with the game but he has now got the buzz back and sometimes you need that change

Surely they could get an ex player to do it?
Re: Westy on comms
The guy with Phil Bird is shocking. Why on earth is he trying to act like a comedian? Just coming across as an obnoxious di**head.

Re: Westy on comms
Don't think I've ever been sat near someone this annoying at a match, never mind him doing a turn on commentary.
Re: Westy on comms
I've had to turn the sound off, sick of the patter and banter when it's as inane as this. Completely distracting and ruining the game for me.

Re: Westy on comms
Phil Bird ended the broadcast saying to Andy Hodgson 'you can come again'... I really hope not... he was cringe-inducing. Partridge esque

Bird on his own would be miles better than what was served up today. Incredibly bad.

I thought his banter was rubbish as well. Trying to be a comedian when a serious game is being watched.

Re: Westy on comms
Phil Bird- Iv always thought is poor, I thought the chap in his absence the other week was much better and to be honest more knowledgable.
Co Comms- Every time he is on I think why. He was part of the embarrassing jealous rant at Brentford last season and he’s never getting better. Get a current player or an ex pro in why get some bloke from a shopping channel on who is the same as any fan really no professional insite or knowledge.

Re: Westy on comms
I’m sure I heard Phil Bird say that Hodgson was a replacement for Stephen Ward as he’s just become assistant manager at Brackley Town so was unavailable
He’ll be doing co comms for the Birmingham game

Re: Westy on comms
Surprised so many of you have just discovered Andy Hodgson. I don’t mind him normally, he’s quite quick witted, but today was over the top. I do like Ashley Westwood though as a current player co-commentating

Re: Westy on comms
I usually avoid listening to Phil Bird when I can but couldn’t today due to the stream. Phil’s one of those that I don’t mind in small doses but he isn’t my favourite. Andy Hodgson though just feels like a total pillock. It’s almost as if he is going for the accidental partridge vibe which a lot of presenters seem to be attempting at the moment. Truly dreadful commentary from him today.

Re: Westy on comms
The opinion on the commentary is subjective, the other guy didn’t do it for me, but I don’t feel strongly - however, more knowledgable? Definitely not. I’d have said that’s the part of Bird’s commentary that’s hard to criticise.

Re: Westy on comms
Bird is the typical club commentator: heavily biased but OK. The other guy is the worst sidekick I've ever heard: clueless and with crappest line in banter possible. Glad that's the first time I've heard them; it'll be the last.

Re: Westy on comms
I worked with Phil Bird for a brief period several years ago and he's a really nice bloke, so I feel slightly bad about not enjoying his commentary. Maybe it's his view from inside the ground but it sometimes feels like I'm watching a totally different game to him. Overall he's passable in the fan wearing claret tinted specs role.
On the other hand, the less said about the co-commentator today the better I think.

Re: Westy on comms
Phil Bird needs to learn the difference between a pass and a hook. Every pass out wide was a hook. Basics.
