Coventry gave us a game

Post by NRC » Sat Oct 08, 2022 4:59 pm

Either we were a little off, or they were one of the better teams we’ve played so far….. or a mix of both. A lot to talk about there…. We were attempting wing play, but without the midfield running through into the area

They had one chance and didn’t have a shot on target.

Just glad to get a win....there are no mugs in the Championship...anyone can beat anyone on their day and we are still a club in transition UTC

Never seen 4 subs on all at once before in a league game.
But they certainly put us under it a bit after.
Even Jack was looking a bit tired the last 10 minutes, and he usually seems to go forever.

They were very average. Gyökeres and Dabo their best players. Surprised Gyökeres is still there to be honest.

Id be very surprised if they’re still down there come the end of the season. Big strong forward who looked dangerous and their right back was the best player on the pitch for me.

It’s good that we have a lot of players who can be an effective back up, as opposed to having a starting 11 who become significantly weaker when changes are made.

No pushovers, for sure. They didn't have a lot of quality, but they played with so much intensity that we weren't able to show ours, either. They'll be fine if they play like that every game.

Agreed. Physical, quick, moved wide on occasion too. Got seventeen goals in this division last season. He and Dabo were head and shoulders their best players though. Really average other than them. They looked a bit better when they started pressing us but that should be the bare minimum.

While I do think the quality level has dropped in the Champ, you’re not going to get an easy ride and it’s full of 100%-ers.

I’m delighted with that result - silenced a few doubters and shown we can win in a different way and shut teams out.

Think they priced him out of any move, I read they were looking for between 15-18m.

Interesting next summer as he’ll be entering the final year of his contract.

If we go up I’d be keen to get him.

Wait till that bloke that we were interested in who is an absolute world beater comes back (and signs for us in January) and see where they are.

What was he called by the way?

They were another average set of players. BPF had next to nothing to do. Had we played well today we would have won 3-0 but we weren’t on it at all.

I thought Coventry were excellent today. Strong, well organised and passed the ball around as well as going direct.
They won't go down in my opinion.
They may not have had many chances but neither did we.
They have a good manager in Mark Robins.

Some wildly differing opinions on this thread. They certainly battled more in the second half and held onto the ball better, just with no end product.

Something must be happening, as WBA played very well against us yet they are 3rd from the bottom. Coventry played well in parts yet they are bottom. Maybe they are giving all they have because they are playing us.

There’s something not working when you sub 4 at once. They never laid a glove on us tbh. Will be interesting to hear Robins cos he's one of those managers that usually talks bobbins. He probably thought Cov played us off the park.

Cov were Below average champ fodder at best , could well be in a relation scrap . Though most teams are VERY “ samey” the difference with the prem is almost beyond belief

Absolutely agree. The Championship overall is very weak.

Not sure how it appeared on TV, but they were absolute shite and created nothing - the Cov fans I spoke to going back to the car were more critical than that as well.

They had the ball for a spell but did nothing with it - can only think of the corner in the first half as a chance?

They sat in with 5 at the back, which seems the tactic to play against us at the minute.
They kept in the game for an hour then had a little go.

In truth they were poor in actual quality but they battled. Like every team does in this division.

Swansea will be a big test next. They have won 4 on the bounce, like possession and have decent forwards for this level

Dabo is a class player. We were far better than them today, and I don't think we got above 80%. Deserved that, picking a win up when not being at our best, when we have filled teams in and only got a point. Happy Days.

Swansea game will be a good true test of where we are at. I really can't see them sitting in like nearly all have at TM this season. Could be an open game. I have a feeling that against teams that do have a go that it will suit us. I can see us getting results against the better sides.

While I’ve no doubting Cov were poor it’s worth pointing out that they were unbeaten in four before today with three consecutive clean sheets. Table slightly misleading as they’ve still got three games to catch up on everyone due to pitch nonsense (which they should have been punished for).
