Think we need to win - if it is rained off we will be a point behind the Aussies ?

Aussies squeeze home means England need to win tomorrow to qualify, however given the net RR any margin of victory will suffice.

What this WC has shown is the gap, if there is a gap at all, is definitely narrowing between the bigger nations and the developing countries, in this format of the game anyway.

Or it shows that the T20 format can be a bit of a lottery.
Hopefully people appreciate that there's nothing can touch 5 day Test Match Cricket.

Afghanistan middle order were very disappointing, particularly the skipper, Mohammad Nabi, who was out second ball at a point when they needed just to steady the ship after losing 3 wickets in the 14th over. They could have won this game but blew it big time.

Sri Lanka looked on target for a very big score after the Power Play.
When de Silva was out in the 9th over they were 72 for 2, however, we have dragged them back and they have only scored 64 in the next 10 overs.
Will England handle their spinners when we bat?

142 in normal circumstances isn't a daunting target, however with the pressure of batting to stay in the WC, and the spinners looking dangerous on this surface it might not be that easy, But if England can't chase this down they don't deserve a semi final berth.

Yes Rashid turned up today then the openers got us off to a good start. Curran has impressed and Wood shattered the tail.

Hales out for 47, 82-2 in the 10th, England just need to bat sensibly to see it home.

I’m no cricket aficionado, but if the aim is to simply restrict the number of runs the opposition scores in 20-20 rather than bowl them out, why don’t teams bowl Yorker after Yorker?

Hales out now and at 82 for 2 with 65 balls to go we just need to score at one run per ball which should not be too difficult, however, after the Ireland game, who knows?

I guess the batsmen would then turn each Yorker into a full toss by advancing down the wicket and scoring freely.

Firstly it's an incredibly difficult skill to execute every ball, secondly the worst thing you can do in T 20 is be predictable with your bowling.

Yorkers can be effective when used wisely, but only the very best bowlers are capable of delivering them under pressure.

I’m also wondering why England are taking so many risks just now when all they need is to pick up singles and twos

Livingston gone now trying to hit the cover off the ball. Why? We now need 36 from 41 balls ---are they really thinking about this? Bottom line is that we just need to win, run rate doesn't matter. Use your brains!

Thankfully Stokes is batting wisely and just knocking it around for ones and twos, his experience coming to the fore.

Moeen goes now, keep your heads lads for goodness sake.

Well, England doing things the Burnley way in making everybody sweat when it should have been easy after the start we had.
After 11 overs they were 85 for 3 and struggled to get another 56 runs from 9 overs.
After 11 overs we were 93 for 3 and struggled to get another 51 runs from 52 balls but......................

At one point I thought we could win with 5 overs to spare
At the end with Woakes on strike I thought we would need 2 off 1

Still doesn't beat the feelings this Burnley team are giving me though

Really annoyed at how many England batsmen were caught in the deep when, from a long way out, we needed less than a run a ball.
Superb catching btw.

Some rash shots played in the closing overs, but a win is a win, and it's satisfying to knock the Aussies our of their hone tournament at the same time.

South Africa out after their shoch defeat to Netherlands, coupled with Pakistan's victory over Bangladesh.

So the last 4 is confirmed as England, India, New Zealand and Pakistan matches still to be determined depending on the India-Zimbabwe result.

Yes Zimbabwe lost the plot in the last few overs, at one stage it looked like they might limit India to 150-160, but that brutal display by Yadav soon changed that.

Tournament starts properly today with the 1st semi final between New Zealand and Pakistan, NZ won toss are unsurprisingly are batting first on a used pitch.

A crazy start to NZ innings, 4 off the first ball, a shocking LBW decision off the 2nd overturned, and Allen rightly judged LBW from the 3rd.

Seems a shame to be playing on used wickets for a semi final

Yes it has caused some controversy, and for a global tournament you'd expect better I have to say.

Key wicket for Pakistan in the 17th doesn't feel like NZ have enough here, however we've seen small totals defended throughout the competition so who knows.

152/4 NZ did well to get that many, will it be enough time will tell, they'll probably need an early wicket or two.

By lucky coincidence my son is currently in Adelaide and was at the Oval for the double header (NZ v Ireland & Australia v Afghanistan) last week and has his ticket for the England semi tomorrow so that should be fun. He's also on the ODI there between Australia and England next week.
