Trouble

Post by cl40 » Sun Nov 13, 2022 6:39 pm

Not sure if there’s been any reports of trouble today but when we parked around Burnley Wood there was about 20 youths all in black hoodies with faces covered looking very menacing skulking around the back streets.

Just four arrests by the sounds of it and the vast majority of supporters praised by Lancashire Constabulary.

Had I encountered a ******* fan after the game I'd have taken much greater pleasure in laughing at them than fighting them.

Keep the fighting for the boxing/mma ring/cage

Nothing good comes from street scraps, many a life has been lost or ruined and it doesn’t make you big or hard.

Really happy to see both sets of supporters observe the minutes silence impeccably

Great day, UTC

Quite understandably I didn't see a single B***ards fan except when I was on the Turf, so I couldn't see why there would be a single bit of bother. I've been in town all day and I still am and haven't seen one bit. (I've seen an awful lot of policemen counting their overtime payments though!)

Fair play to all the small minority of Rovers fans who made their way by car.

One thing for sure is that we won't be hiding on the buses when we take over Blackburn in March and paint the town claret and blue

Sounds like it could have been this group
Now the East Lancashire Derby has finished we just wanted to give you an overview of how our policing operation has gone.
The operation will continue into this evening but we just wanted to thank everybody who attended and supported their team while behaving appropriately.
Sadly, we did have to deal with a very small number people whose behaviour fell way short of what we all would expect and deem acceptable.
At around 11.25am we intercepted a group of men wearing balaclavas who were attempting to engage in disorder with away coaches travelling along Todmorden Road, Burnley. We deployed a number of resources to the area and arrested two men on suspicion of drug possession offences.
They were a 22-year-old man from Burnley and a 26-year-old man from Burnley.
A 54-year-old man from Great Harwood was arrested at Turf Moor on suspicion of common assault.
A 40-year-old man from Rochdale was arrested outside the stadium on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and a 17-year-old boy from Read was arrested on suspicion of a Section 4 Public Order Act offence.
All five remain in custody at this time.
A small number of fans were ejected from the stadium.
We are also aware of isolated pockets of disorder and missile throwing during the game which will form part of the post match investigation.
This will be thoroughly investigated by our officers and officials from both football clubs. Footage will be reviewed and the appropriate action will be taken against anybody involved.
ACC Russ Procter, who was Gold Command for the fixture, said: “Firstly, I would like to place on record my thanks to all those supporters who have enjoyed the rivalry, supported their team and behaved appropriately. This was highlighted by the two-minute silence before the game being impeccably observed by both sets of supporters.
“This has been a significant policing operation which will continue into the evening. A number of different teams and specialist officers and officials from both football clubs have performed key roles in maintaining order and keeping the people of East Lancashire safe. I would also like to thank them for their coordinated efforts.
“Sadly, a minority of people’s behaviour has overstepped the mark and we have pro-actively intervene where necessary to make arrests. Although disappointing, I don’t want these isolated pockets of poor behaviour to detract from what has been a good, well-attended East Lancashire derby fixture.”

I came out the Fishwick after the final whistle to a line of riot cops, I thought here we go but they seemed to be packing bags of gear up and tossing them in the van as if to say nothing was going to happen, a copper then turned to me and my son, he smiled and said I bet you enjoyed that didn't you we both replied you bet and they carried on.
Credit to both sets of fans(was there away fans?)
And a credit to the police, I'm sure the result helped but all in all what an enjoyable day from start to finish

I saw a young lad in the queue ahead of me for the Cricketfield get arrested for holding up a blue flare. Assume he will be the 17 year old from Read mentioned. Nothing malicious, just a silly way to end your day early and miss the fun.

Clearly the majority of Rovers fans travelled by bus……..a win probably helped, but delighted at the respect re Remembrance Day, and no major trouble in the CFS from what I’ve heard ………whilst acknowledging the earlier info re some arrests ..a massive step in the right direction ……..a proper derby day

…………we’ll done Clarets, Rovers…..and the police.

Saw the two lads being arrested before the game. One wearing a balaclava, both bundled into the back of a police van. About five vans there and a couple of police on horses. My grandsons were at their first derby and loved seeing all the police - thought it was very exciting! Trouble-free and happy day, really. Credit to all supporters and the police.

What I was most pleased about was the demeanour of the coppers, generally smiling and engaging in conversation rather than acting like Robocop. That’s the way to good policing outcomes and it comes from the top which is promising for the future because it hasn’t been like that in the past.

Town was fine, a drink before and after easy to do and trouble free. Nobody got a grilling on the door. If Rovers fans wanted to come in with no colours, anonymously having a quiet pint, they’d have been more than welcome. As it should be.

I have to echo what you've said about the police. Every single one of them I interacted with was great, smiling and engaging and the best bit - they didn't treat us like we were trouble which occurs occasionally at home games (I've never experienced it at away games though).

It was like a breath of fresh air, and I hope it continues.

It must have been a deliberate effort that, and fair do's to them. Often they're confrontational from the start and create issues, but the ones that came in the pub before the escort went past were having a laugh, all smiles.. just killed off any chance of a flashpoint.

Thanks for the kind words and we are mate yes. I was trying to get him up for the match yesterday to sit in Bob Lord with me and my brother. I was planning it a few months ago when he was walking with just one stick.
Unfortunately he has deteriorated very quickly and is now in a wheelchair and the amount of care he requires means he can’t go anywhere for prolonged periods. He is a top top bloke, one year younger than me and a proud ex serviceman and Rovers fan.
I hope he is still here for the return at Ewood but I doubt he will be.

I haven't read this thread from top to bottom, but I felt yesterday seemed really well organised and managed by the Police. They roads being walled off on Harry Potts Way was a bit like Helms Deep from Lord of the Rings but it penned them in well and allowed safe passage in, out and around the ground. I personally saw no trouble before or after the game, which is great.

The police were excellent yesterday. Professional but not over-bearing and they were mainly looking to help rather than antagonise.

Also, great post by Jamesy - the rivalry is great but one of the reasons we have such a rivalry are the similarities of the towns and its people.

Didn't see any bother so to speak. We tried to get to fanzone early having an 11 year and 8 year old with us. Unfortunately we got caught by the escort and my oldest was a bit shocked vitriol coming from the rovers supporters. It is what it is. I have seen the same from Burnley when we arrive at Ewood. I wanted to congratulate the police also, thought they were superb yesterday, they normally get berated, but managed everything perfectly yesterday.

I didn’t go to the game yesterday. I gave my ticket up for someone else to go. Instead I took my terminally ill Royal Marine friend to the Remembrance Day parade in Shrewsbury and then we went back to his room in the nursing home to watch the match at 12:30. My Royal Marine pal originates from Clitheroe and was a staunch Rovers fan until he couldn’t go anymore. When we got back to his room we quickly helped him change out of his Royal Marines blazer and beret and medals into his Rovers shirt and watched the match. We had a very good day, and he was magnanimous in defeat.

It is great to beat Rovers yet again but violence away from the pitch and outside the respective grounds shouldn’t play any part in these fixtures. Let’s hope the return fixture passes of without any aggro after we have comprehensively beaten them yet again.
Excellent post Jamesy and should make us all stop and think. Sending best wishes too your friend and you.

Very encouraging to hear praise for the Policing. A few years back I genuinely thought that every football supporter, irrespective of club, was automatically disenfranchising themselves by attending a match. We were undoubtedly 2nd class citizens and treated almost as criminals by the Police. Good to hear that this MAY be changing.

I play walking football on a Sunday evening and a few weeks ago we had a new player joined, very broad Lancashire accent. I asked where he was from and he said Blackburn, well Whalley. The posh bit then. Well, Baghdad is posh when you compare it to Blackburn.

You can tell he has been a very good player in his time, the way he runs and strikes a ball. Used to play for Nelson, Great Harwood, Morecambe and Fleetwood Town amongst others. I really didn't fancy playing last night if we didn't win - something i had no worry about. He actually turned up wearing an old pair of black Errea BFC shorts for our game yesterday evening. His summary - first time he has seen us play this season and we are a very good side, way better than they were and could have has more than the 3 we did score.

Just how it should be, on opposite sides during the El Lanclassico, laugh and joke about the game at full time, then join forces to try and repel the Southern hordes, mainly Spurs fans.

You’re not meant to run in walking football.

Glad the offensive poster is serving a suspension though. No place on here for posts like that.
Agreed. Bit baffling why your post was removed Jamesy. How anyone could deem it an "unnecessary response" is beyond me. You were simply highlighting a heart warming tale explaining how two fans from across the divide could still have a special bond.
