He’s clearly hand balled it. Time to take the claret tinted specs off.

Re: The Bar
Judging by the comments on here it sounds like that's where the ref had been pre match.

Re: The Bar
Poor by the linesman to give that. Roberts was nowhere near to handling it. Luckily nothing came from it and he should get the red card overturned.

It’s nowhere near his hand. Roberts was absolutely fuming, he knew he hadn’t touched it.

Players fall over when nobody touches them and get free kicks so why should you not get a penalty for someone waving his arms around, even if he didn't touch it?

Re: The Bar
Awful decision but Roberts didnt help as he was definitely trying to handball it and got lucky that it just clipped the bar before he managed to scoop it out Suarez style.
I can imagine it was probably very hard to tell if it hit the bar or if Roberts managed to handle it (especially with Roberts hand motion of trying to handle the ball) and in my opinion if uncertain then it shouldnt be given.
Hold that thought though and imagine it at the other end and it just misses the bar and their defender manages to handle it like Roberts tried to. If it it was equally as hard to tell for certain if it hit their hand or the crossbar. I dont think we would have quite the same pragmatic view that a penalty shouldnt be given if the officials cant be certain it hit the hand in that scenario.

Re: The Bar
I don't blame the officials who don't have the benefit of replays but people who watched it on TV and still think it was handball need to take a breath and have another look. It will be rescinded but ref can't be blamed for that one. It looked handball all day long until the replays..

If that’s your argument then fair play, had he been able to stop it he would, he went to tip away from goal , stupid but it’s a natural instinct

Who cares? Muric saved the pen. Red card will be rescinded. The officials are shite as we already knew. Clarets are top.
Re: The Bar
That was as close as he got to handballing it. I know it's only a still but, honestly, he never touched it.

Re: The Bar
Obviously not a hand ball. But can a player be penalised for attempting to deliberately handle the ball, which Roberts did?

Re: The Bar
I thought it was handball first time and would have given it. Bit weird to watch the replay though and still insist it was a handball. The opposite of claret tinted specs that.
Re: The Bar
Looked a blatant handball live. Shows how tough it is for the refs at times.

You can tell from the video he 100% tried to scoop it out
Re: The Bar
There wouldn’t have been an opportunity to give a penalty away if Muric hadn’t been so poor for both balls that came in. He really needs to work on commanding his area, when to come / when not to come and utilising his significant height advantage. It’s a real weakness in his game.Flying Without Ings wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 5:52 pmWho cares? Muric saved the pen. Red card will be rescinded. The officials are shite as we already knew. Saving shots being his other weakness. His attempt to stop Watmore’s pea-roller was comical.DCWat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 6:03 pmThere wouldn’t have been an opportunity to give a penalty away if Muric hadn’t been so poor for both balls that came in. Thought he did well commanding his box at QPR but agree. Overall, I'm a fan. He suits our style perfectly and he's young so I'm sure he will improve the poorer aspects of his game.DCWat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 6:03 pmThere wouldn’t have been an opportunity to give a penalty away if Muric hadn’t been so poor for both balls that came in. He’ll be exposed ruthlessly in the Premie League so I don’t think he will get the opportunity to improve the poorer aspects of his game with us.Flying Without Ings wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 6:09 pmThought he did well commanding his box at QPR but agree. Re: The Bar
Can't argue with your point. However, on the plus side, for a keeper who's had a fair amount of criticism , often justified, saving the pen must boost his confidence. I hope so anyway.DCWat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 6:03 pmThere wouldn’t have been an opportunity to give a penalty away if Muric hadn’t been so poor for both balls that came in. Re: The Bar
Sat in the BL I was convinced it was a bit of a Suarez, but having seen the replay I don’t think it is, though I reckon the intention was there.
Re: The Bar
If, assuming we go up, which looks very likely, we'll need a new keeper as Muric struggles with the basics of keeping, such as catching standard crosses into the box, and saving basic shots.

Re: The Bar
I initially thought he handled it and although the referee was utterly shite I can well understand how he and his assistants gave it.
Great save from Muric for the penalty, too, although he was extremely suspect for their first and the incident which led to Roberts receiving his marching orders.

Re: The Bar
Made some outstanding saves to keep us in games recently, so that’s a nonsense.
Was wrong footed today as he was back tracking from an advanced position that he takes up as a sweeper.
Re: The Bar
Roberts didn’t touch it…..
However live iv got to admit I though he handled it out.
Once iv seen the reply and only from a certain angle can I tell he never touched it.

Re: The Bar
You’re right, and I thought he was making a big effort at QPR, obviously been working on it after the Sheff Utd debacle. It’s not natural for him though and got it wrong today a few times but at least he’s trying now.
Following Heaton and Pope isn’t easy though. Not many sides in this league have England keepers.

Re: The Bar
He’s made some good saves, can’t think of many I’d describe as outstanding. But of course he will make some saves, he’s a goalkeeper. But generally his shot stopping is very poor. His attempt to save their goal today was appalling, whatever excuse you make for it. Just look at the angle from the camera in the JMU, it’s an atrocious attempt at a save.
He’s let in a lot of extremely soft attempts at goal this season. What he offers us with the ball compensates for this in the Championship, his passing today for example was very good. But in the Premier League we won’t be dominating possession and we will be facing a lot more shots at our goal. As I said he will be exposed ruthlessly and I would be amazed if he’s not upgraded on in the summer.

Re: The Bar
I should add, whilst his passing was good today, his hesitation to release the ball and invite the press in the dying minutes should have cost us. Ironically he atoned by making a good save from the spot.
Re: The Bar
It’s an interesting one because statistically he’s one of the best shot stoppers in the division (talking about xG models for keepers, not just standard save %). At Sheff Utd, for example, he had a weird game, was shocking at crosses but made 3 top drawer saves. He’s got a lot to learn if he wants to make it as a PL keeper, but I draw quite a few comparisons with how Meslier and Raya were for Leeds and Brentford (age similarities, good ball players that lacked in some key areas), and now they are solid PL keepers.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 6:29 pmHe’s made some good saves, can’t think of many I’d describe as outstanding. Re: The Bar
I was shocked at the penalty because all I saw was the ball hit the bar and fortunately end up in Muric's hands.
