Any news on Roberts' red card?
Apologies if already posted, but I haven't seen it anywhere.
Re: Any news on Roberts' red card?
Surely we have appealed and it will be overturn. Vitinho already out till new year so we don’t need Roberts out for 3 games

Good news if it’s only 1 game. Assume it would be Man U game if that’s the caselakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 4:04 pmI think it would only be one game, but I agree, we must have appealed, and I don't see how it couldn't be rescinded.

Good angle on here behind the nets, shows he isn't even close to handling the ball. Ref does blow straight away though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39hVCkF2C5U

I'll still never understand how you can give something you didn't see because it didn't actually happen...
How can you? Why do you? Why WOULD you? Why on earth are they so desperate to make absolute twatheads out of themselves that they'll give something they COULDN'T and DIDN'T see?

Isn't a straight red 2/3 games
1 for two yellows
Was saying with some guys tonight that expected appeal to be announced today
Presume maybe too late for any appeal to effect Weds game now if not already registered

He talked at length on the radio to the linesman before giving it.tarkys_ears wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 8:47 pmI'll still never understand how you can give something you didn't see because it didn't actually happen...

Re: Any news on Roberts' red card?
Well I saw him handball it on a couple of replays before I saw the one that conclusively showed he didn’t. Unfortunately the eyes can be deceived and I don’t really blame the linesman for what he thought he saw. That sort of incident is exactly why VAR was introduced. Now I love the fact we don’t have VAR in the Championship but you won’t see penalties like that given in the Premier League.tarkys_ears wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 8:47 pmI'll still never understand how you can give something you didn't see because it didn't actually happen...

Re: Any news on Roberts' red card?
Think it’s only 3 games for violent conduct. It’s one game for a professional foul and this probably falls under that banner. Hope we have appealed it though.
Re: Any news on Roberts' red card?
Depends what the red card is for, for example, violent conduct would carry a 3 match ban. A deliberately handled ball (not in this case) would be a 1 match ban.

there's no way, even with how unfathomably **** the FA are that the card wont get rescinded, it's an embarrassment for the establishment and they wont want to make it worse

Re: Any news on Roberts' red card?
The lino defo gave it. Roberts didn’t help himself by trying to back hand it away but from the angle along the goalline you can see he missed it and see why the lino gave it.

Re: Any news on Roberts' red card?
I've never understood why people get confused with a punishment for deliberate handball (not that it was, and should be rescinded).
When was the last time a player received a three game ban for handling it?

Me too. It looked like a handball, if you were a lino. Perfectly timed hand in conjunction with ball movement.martin_p wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 8:52 pmWell I saw him handball it on a couple of replays before I saw the one that conclusively showed he didn’t. Only when in depth look does it show the optical illusion.
However, he would have definitely hand balled it, if the bar had not intervened!
Re: Any news on Roberts' red card?
David Eyres was probably the last Burnley player to get a three match ban for a professional foul. That summer they changed in to 1 match (might have been 1994) and since then it's been changed again, so a genuine (but failed) tackle that denies a goalscoring offence and results in a penalty, is only yellow.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 9:25 pmI've never understood why people get confused with a punishment for deliberate handball (not that it was, and should be rescinded).

Re: Any news on Roberts' red card?
I can understand the ref thinking it as he is facing it but the linesman is side on. It is the side on photos that show it wasn't handball so it must have been easier for the linesman.

Anyway, remind me of the opposition in 1994 that Eyres was sent off against, and subsequently received a three game ban.

Re: Any news on Roberts' red card?
I doubt we'll appeal it. The decision was incorrect and im sure we could win the appeal but I get the impression that VK is an honourable and principled man and I suspect he will recognise that Roberts tried to cheat and will accept the punishment for the attempt to cheat even if Roberts didnt succeed.
Personally I have a lot of respect for VK for taking such a stance

Re: Any news on Roberts' red card?
To spell it out, when the professional foul rule was first brought in, the punishment for getting sent off was a three match ban. So if you did a professional foul handball it was a three match ban and if you did a professional foul trip or push or other offence it was a three match ban.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 11:55 pmI thought we were talking about handball?

Then they changed the rule, probably in summer 1995, to a 1 match ban for a professional foul. So if you did a professional foul handball it was a one match ban and if you did a professional foul trip or push or other offence it was a one match ban.
It was Stoke away, 10th December 1994.

Re the card, apparently the refs guide dog eat the post match report.

I've never actually heard handball described as a professional foul before, but thanks for the clarification.dsr wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 1:13 amTo spell it out, when the professional foul rule was first brought in, the punishment for getting sent off was a three match ban. Well remembered! I'll take your word for it that he served a three game ban!

All fouls are "professional" in a pro league.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 9:20 amI've never actually heard handball described as a professional foul before, but thanks for the clarification.
I'd like to see the definition of an amateur foul...is it one not very well executed?

These posts do come across as a little immature at times. Poor attempt at what? I think you guys get a bit obsessed that everything is trying to troll and wind people up. It was just a light hearted post like many posts on this forum and Id be worried if anyone either thought I was being serious or got upset by it.
Anyway I'll remember not to post anything that isn't deadly serious in future Martin

Wasn’t Beresford sent off for handball a few games later in the infamous Portsmouth game? Was that one or three?
We seemed to have a red card every other week that season.

I mean half the jokey posts on here could be considered immature, just look at that adeola thread but people do tend to just pass time on here posting nonsense. Not sure where you've got the idea that I expect people to take me serious though?
