Re: Barnes
Brilliant today, with some of the senior leaders in the squad going I’d be desperate to keep him here for the rest of the season.

Re: Barnes
Motm for me also. Superb performance
Re: Barnes
Played slightl deeper, and marshalled the forward line really well, need to keep him until the end of the season, specially word for McNally ,looked a bit nervous early on,but had a good 2nd half.

Re: Barnes
Just said same on the match thread. Stayed on his feet and was outstanding
Re: Barnes
His first touch can sometimes let him down but it was spot on today and makes such a difference.

He was brilliant today, as was JBG playing in a more central role. Our high press is devastating.

He was brilliant today
Re: Barnes
Good value is Ash the Bash but according to a few on here hes not. One post I recall saying he should never wear a Burnley shirt again... LOL. He has had to adapt to this team and hes suffered injuries but hes still really useful.

Re: Barnes
Barnes is a far better footballer than the player Dyche had turned him into the last 18months or so of his tenure.
He looks fitter faster and enjoying his game.

Funny how a few weeks ago his legs had gone and according to some he should never pull on a Burnley shirt again.

It took him longer than hoped for, to recover from his hernia ops, both of them. Slow healer perhaps but he’s back now.

Re: Barnes
I remember hearing the team news that J Rod was out for the B*******S game and Ash was starting as I approached The Turf. I felt a little bit more apprehensive about the game but I needn't have worried. He was outstanding that day and has done very well whenever he has been on the pitch since. I thought he was outstanding again today and my man of the match. I love it that he tries to stay on his feet a lot more also.

Re: Barnes
Amazing what he can do when he stays on his feet and actually tries to affect the game instead of throwing himself to the floor when the ball was near him, looks a completely different player, this Ashley Barnes deserves a few games to see what he can do in the League now.

I read somewhere that VK will allow him to leave if we find a replacement first. I would like to keep him but appreciate he needs regular football.

Re: Barnes
The thing that sticks out to me with Barnes is he seems to be playing at a slightly less chaotic pace. He seems a little more composed which is allowing his touch and passing to be more accurate and intelligent. He seemed to be 100 mile an hour, smash them and run, before but he’s changing into a cleverer player who will can mix both sides of the game much better.

Re: Barnes
He had a really poor game in the first half at Sunderland and some were saying he shouldn’t play again and that he couldn’t fit in with the way we play now.
I defended him then because I thought the criticism was unfair. Then came Blackburn and then came yesterday when I thought he was back to his very best. Absolutely superb performance and my clear man of the match.

Very good against Blackburn and Bournemouth. Had some really poor games too. One swallow doesnt’t make a summer. Still need a younger more mobile striker.

I think VK is going to see what a canny experienced operator Ash the Bash really is, young players need a guy like him in there with them.

FFS
Is it an old person thing in which they completely ignore what people posted at the time?
At the time, after three years of injuries and being very, very poor, it was questioned whether he was going to be an asset
Then, he played well v Crawley, had a blinder v the Bastards and has looked a lot more of his old self
Its great that he's having a proper swan song to his Burnley career, and I'm really pleased for him, but that doesn't change the fact that he's essentially been crap for three seasons and I wouldn't offer him a new contract as I think his best days are behind him

Showed his worth yesterday. Miles better when he stops falling over like he was told to do. He’s too good a footballer for that. First name on the team sheet for Coventry

Re: Barnes
Played very well yesterday, more like how JayRod typically plays. His clearance off the line and the sublime pass for the 4th being the highlights. It begs the question - why make your persona being about falling over with an anguished face, looking for free kicks, if you can play like you did?

An excellent post, Lancaster, one which should give this thread a little bit of perspective.
