West Brom Fans reaction...
Re: West Brom Fans reaction...
West Brom contained us well in the first half (with a little help from the ref) and looked dangerous on the break. Second half we absolutely dominated them and the fresh legs with the substitutions just piled even more pressure on them. IMO that is the best half we've played all season and the dressing room must have been buzzing. I'm not surprised at their fans reaction as we won with great goals and skilful football and no dodgy decisions.

But nowadays we wouldn't lose a 2 goal lead, twiceQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:17 amStrange take by some.
Blackpool scored 3 against us and could have got a few more but for Murics best game as an actual keeper.
They dominated us all 2nd half.
WBA had 2 shots on target against us.

Yep, our opponents look at the table and realise that two promotion slots are rapidly disappearing. So it’s now becoming a huge scramble for one place via the play-offs.
Anything that they can get from us is like gold dust.

Ok then west brom have shades of Barcelona about them & are a really good side, I watched the game & have watched lots of championship games this season & PL but let's leave it & see if they do just as good next season with measured relative relation to the strength of the teams above the likes of west brom, lots of games will be nip & tuck & we will fall on the wrong side of the line more often than not & the heavyweights will steamroller us. Teams are making a better go once promoted such as Nottingham forest & Fulham because they are spending a lot of money getting out of the division then improving, if it's that good dross like Blackburn wouldn't be losing almost as much as winning & commanding a playoff spot & still having a 3pt margin from Norwich it's a dogga league with a odd 1 or 2 teams having something about them.roperclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 8:53 amThis is just entitled Premier League fan opinion tosh. The majority of championship teams are good football teams and probably much better than the last time we were at this level. The gulf to the PL is getting wider because that division is getting better not because this one is getting worse

You should try taking in some of your local non league matches (I do). The standard in the Championship is way way better. And then try playing, because the standard of the non league teams is also way way better than any Sunday teams up Townley. By your definition if your not Barcelona or one of the ‘heavyweights’ then your ‘dogga’Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:44 amOk then west brom have shades of Barcelona about them & are a really good side, I watched the game & have watched lots of championship games this season & PL but let's leave it & see if they do just as good next season with measured relative relation to the strength of the teams above the likes of west brom, lots of games will be nip & tuck & we will fall on the wrong side of the line more often than not & the heavyweights will steamroller us. You’ve got to remember Jakub had us down for struggling this season and was highly active after the games we didn’t win, taking great pleasure in pointing out Kompany’s lack of experience etc, notably going missing when we started winning. Now he’s back, it’s a natural progression for him to say we’re where we are because the league is poor and just move the same narrative to the PL.

Well obviously the standard ranks higher than amateur football but I still stand by my opinion it’s a poor league apart from us & Sheffield United a cursory glance at the league table shows the gap. for me to determine that I don’t need to look at the Fylde & wyre football on show as some sort of a yardstick. I watch non league football periodically.roperclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 11:18 amYou should try taking in some of your local non league matches (I do). Re: West Brom Fans reaction...
The WBA fans seem to have a realistic outlook -
They know they played well for 30 mins and know we had the better of them for 60. They know they tored and they know they dont have the luxuries off the bench that we do.
They acknowledged that they were beat by a better team on the night and are just mildly disappointed they didnt get something out of the game whilst leading with 15 mins to go.
Ive even seen comments about their keeper time wasting being a bad thing as they knew it was possibly provoking the crowd and would only lead to more added time
So I’d have to say they were both knowledgable and realistic.
A good set of fans.

Re: West Brom Fans reaction...
I've always quite liked West Brom and TBH I can't say that about many clubs. From my early years I recall Jeff Astle, Tony "Bomber" Brown and John Wile, one of the best CBs never to play for England, and Len Cantello.
After that came the team built by BFR which played some excellent football with one highlight being a 5-3 win at OT.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. Not a single day goes by without him moaning about something on this forum. Now he's scraping the bottom of the barrel by using last night's game as another vehicle for his attention seeking. The guy stinks.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 11:27 amYou’ve got to remember Jakub had us down for struggling this season and was highly active after the games we didn’t win
Re: West Brom Fans reaction...
Did they though? We hit the post, hit the bar, had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside, had one decent penalty shout and two soft ones.
On another day we go in at half time 4-1 up.

Me neither, except for when Simon Garner scored for them at the Hawthorns, I wasn't very keen on them then !!ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Fri Jan 20, 2023 11:28 pmI don’t mind WBA as a club or their fans. They are level headed and can generally talk about football without getting above their stations.
Re: West Brom Fans reaction...
Without doing more analysis it's hard to work out why the current points total in the play-off positions is lower than in previous seasons.
That and the fact that ourselves and Sheff United are over performing has created such a big gap between the top two and the rest.
Probably just a one-off this season and at the very least the play-off teams doing better next year.
Therefore hard to say whether the league in general is getting more competitive with more teams at the bottom getting points

6th March 1993 .... we lost 2-0 ! I can't understand the mentality of someone who is so determined to be miserable that you are getting upset about next season's results. Can there be nothing, literally nothing, about this season that makes you happy?Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:44 amOk then west brom have shades of Barcelona about them & are a really good side, I watched the game & have watched lots of championship games this season & PL but let's leave it & see if they do just as good next season with measured relative relation to the strength of the teams above the likes of west brom, lots of games will be nip & tuck & we will fall on the wrong side of the line more often than not & the heavyweights will steamroller us. Well firstly you don’t need to understand nobody is asking you to understand, of course I’m happy about this season but I’m also fearful about next season, if I’m allowed to have both emotions or maybe I should be seeking your approval.

No, you're allowed to be miserable or happy or both without my approval. But I think you're on your own being even half miserable about the season going on now. Most of us are happy without qualification.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 5:51 pmWell firstly you don’t need to understand nobody is asking you to understand, of course I’m happy about this season but I’m also fearful about next season, if I’m allowed to have both emotions or maybe I should be seeking your approval.

I'm far from miserable, talking about qualifications I believe I'm qualified more than anybody else to know how I personally feel. I'm over the moon the team are doing well but also mindful next season will be challenging which in all honesty it's always been that way & always will be for Burnley.

This exactly. Like Stoke a very similar club to ours in many ways. Working class (is that even a thing anymore) fan base.Transpennine wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 8:43 pmBack on topic.

Boro and West Brom were supposed to be 2 in form sides, yet we beat Boro easily and dug out a narrow victory over West Brom despite giving both a goal of a start.Ziggy Stardust wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:36 amAll the doom mongers/negative posters have left this year is all the other teams in the division are poor. 2 defeats in 28 and the recent winning streak has to be commended, and it's funny how often we make these sides appear poor isn't it.

They've been the Baggies since the 19th century. Something to do with their supporters having baggy trousers because they were steel workers who came to matches straight from work on a Saturday. That's what I've heard, anyway.
