I'm at 315 although one of them, Jimmy Dunne, I only saw on TV having only played for us at first team level in the 2020/21 season.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 2:58 pmTHanks Tony, enjoyed reading that and wondering just how many of the 350 I have actaully seen playing since my first game in 1952.

Looks like World War II was a lucky break for us. If the 1939/40 result vs Birmingham City had stood, they would have been promoted instead of us in 1947. Every cloud.

Excellent article Tony, thanks.
I never really thought of Jimmy Mac as a goal scorer but the statistics show just how wrong I was/am.
Whatever, he was a fine magician.

At least three times as many goals created. The greatest Claret of all-time and that includes Tommy Boyle.

I don’t know how many without going through it but not too many years ago it would probably have five, the four Home Countries and Ireland.

I'll second that. The opening is particularly strong before going into some remarkable research to capture the rest. From a writing perspective I'll personally put that as CT's best.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 8:02 pmSpecial mention does not even begin to give the article the justice it deserves......Simply remarkable dedication.
Having started at post-war, it does make you wonder what the total number is since FL inception

Where does Tommy Boyle fit into to all this ?
Captain of the FA Cup winning team into 1914, fights for his country in WW1, captains Burnley side to League One Championship in 1921 ?

Royboy - agree with all your comments re Jimmy Mac, you and me were very fortunate to see him play on many occasions. The finest claret ever and probably the reason we are having this conversation/tribute some 64 years later.

Absolutely CleggHall, dancing along that bye-line that Cricket-Field end, taking three opposing defenders out of the game to create a tap in for Jimmy Robson ?........You couldn't make it up.
As you say, the greatest Claret ever........ and yet my Dad reminds me of the great Tommy Boyle....... Where's Claret Tony ?

Re: ARTICLE: No 350: Hjalmar Ekdal
He did - I was once at a dinner back in 2000 which was being held to commemorate the naming of the Jimmy Mac Stand. Jimmy told the story of the man he used to sit and chat to in Scott Park. This old man told him: "Jimmy, you were a good'n but Bob Kelly was the best." Jimmy told us that night in response: "So you are all wrong thinking it's me."
I only saw Jimmy Mac at the back end but I know how good he was and Brian Miller once told me that it was questionable that we could have ever won the league without him. All I'll say is that Kelly must have been bloody good to be compared with him. Kelly played league football to the age of 42/43 which back then was remarkable.

I remember it as a typical Waddle goal - down the right, dropped shoulder and a left foot shot into the far corner. Eddie Howe scored his first ever goal in the same game.

Re: ARTICLE: No 350: Hjalmar Ekdal
Having seen the remarks by some, about the wording of my post. I meant it to read as a special mention to Tony. The work he has put in on this and other factual articles, is both very interesting for everyone. But more so for the post war baby era, who have seen a lot more of those players score those goals. I haven’t even begun to count how many I’ve seen score YET.

Thanks Bfc - frightening how many I've see but all of the players since October 1960 when I first started going although. I did miss the Tommy Cummings wonder goal against Newcastle though, I was seven days old at the time, my dad must have thought I was too young to go.Bfc wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 10:36 pmHaving seen the remarks by some, about the wording of my post.
