Long time since he was on TV - he was 94 too.

was for so long to ITV what David Coleman was to the BBC.

Another part of my formative years gone.

One of very few people at the time who kept us in touch with the world of footy.

RIP Dickie

World of Sport never came close to Grandstand for me but Dickie Davis was a good presenter.

Remember the odd patch of White in his "fringe" always seemed odd.

RIP

Reminds me of a Morecambe and Wise sketch:
Eric: Why have you gone grey?
Ernie: It's because I think a lot
Eric: You should be like Dickie Davies and think just a little bit.

RIP Dickie, a great presenter.

Always remember the aeroplane trailing the World of Sport banner in the opening titles.
Watching the wrestling then the football results, my dad eagerly checking his pools coupon.

I was at QEGS, Blackburn between 1975 - 82,where two years above me was our School Captain, Adrian Attwood. I admired him greatly, he captained the school 1st XV, despite us being a football school. He left for Cambridge, and a couple of years later we saw him down at the local Rugby Club ... He told us that he'd saved up enough to take his g/f ( I understand, now his wife of 46 years ) to a " posh " London Restaurant, when they were dining, and she was being careful what to order, wincing at the prices ..

They had noticed that Dickie Davies was at one of the " better tables " but had left a little earlier. As the main course arrived, it was accompanied by a bottle of Champagne, with a note ...

" It's lovely to see a young couple so obviously in love, I've asked the Restaurant to put your bill on my Credit Card, and enjoy this on me, Regards, Dickie Davies " ..

This was told to me around 1981, I have no reason to doubt it .. RIP Sir !

He was the original Jeff Stelling!

Comsumate presenter of multiple sports and when the vidiprinter kicked in, away he went.

I remember he told the story of how he got the job. They did a test shoot and passed him lots of updates by hand, as he was updating on something else. He was the only interviewee who having been passed a football update, looked at it and said, ah, we've had that one and carried on with what he was saying.

Colossus of ITV sport.

World of Sport, Grandstand were both iconic and a huge part of forming my interest in sport as a youngster……..waiting for the teleprinter to confirm the results!!!

RIP, a voice of sport.
