We could improve our identity by filing accounts on time and not ruining our reputation.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 12:27 pmInteresting article on the rebranding of Aston Villa...

I really like that.
Although I'm not sure it was required it does look very nice.
That said, is it not just their old old old badge but with the lion facing the other way?

I like it. I also think the image of the lion on its own is very smart
I do, however, also like our current crest, although I know I'm probably in the minority here
I wouldn't say no to a rebrand, based on the ideas mentioned in this article, however, and prior to what is almost certainly a potential big increase in global exposure is probably the right time

Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
Whilst our current badge is more simple than the previous, it's still very fussy and doesn't lend itself to a monochrome design which is obviously preferable for flexibility of use. I wouldn't be averse to a rebranded design - the Villa badge looks great.

Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
There seems a bit of a trend towards circular badges in football recently. Also over simplification. Sure there's method to the madness but I'm not sure of the reasoning.
I'm not one to advocate rebranding for rebrandings sake. But I must say our latest crest has started to look dated quite quickly.

It’s just the old badge from the 80s with the lion facing the other way isn’t it?

It's much of a muchness tbh.
Some of their fans will be fine with it, others will take it personally, bit like some Burnley fans did when the club changed the badge last time.

It’s ok tbh , just a simplified version with lion and full club name , maybe to make it more recognisable to Chinese gamblers and more appeal to Asian markets . As for the ludicrous marketing speak they’ve come up with .. give me strength …
Dragon Rouge has repositioned Aston Villa FC, “reigniting authentic brand assets”
Aston Villa FC’s wider brand expression focusses on bringing assets “fully to life” and will include new colours, bespoke fonts, illustrations and motion graphics, says King.

Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
Not a fan of ‘rebranding’. I was working for the BBC in the 90’s when they paid over a million for putting a line under the logo… of course we were all expected to make ooo-aaah noises. The same effect could have been had by leaving me with it to doodle on while making a phone call.
Don’t really understand the need to keep messing the club badge is part of the clubs identity, why change on a whim? Makes no real sense other than to age items bought recently

Yeah, there's a lot of waffle around it, to justify the design agency's fee probably. But it does look loads better.
Ours is a bit crap, I'd be happy for them to look at it again.

I think they’ll attract loads of extra young fans with the new badge, irrespective of how well they play football or who the youngsters dads/mates support. Money well spent, but I would have used the perfect curve agency for the re-branding.
Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
They've taken the best of the old badges and turned the lion round. Nowt wrong with that.
Though I suspect the reason they've turned the lion round isn't so much to reflect the forward-facing nature of the club, it's more to justify their no doubt enormous fee. They could hardly say "no change, here's our bill".

Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
I like our badge and don’t really want to see it go, although like the Villa modernisation and may feel differently if I saw alternative designs for our badge.
Our badge looks decent on the home kits but can look garish on away kits and definitely merchandise. What I would like to see is:
- more use of our different badges/modernisation of old badges on retro Away/Third kits
- more use of monochrome and/or rubber embossed versions of the badge (that most modern kits use now) on Away/Third kits
- Use of old badges and remade modern versions on merchandise. You only need to google “Burnley Badge” to find a whole load of really good, modern designs we could use on merchandise without changing the club badge. Or need to look at how many “managers caps” are sold versus the versions with the crest!
- oh and our own name/number fonts for shirts in colours that actually compliment the kits (and must be massively higher margin than using PL/EFL licensed designs).
Like it or not, kit designs, logos, merchandise does matter to younger, fashion conscious fans. We’ve had some good work on kit designs in recent years but a long way to go on the overall offering.

Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
Said a few times on here that in the club shop there's barely any trace of the badge we stopped using on kits in 2009. I think that's a shame. There's plenty of the BFC one which looks more like BFE but hey. For many (core supporter group in terms of age? I don't know) it's the badge they grew up with and, acknowledging personal taste, it looks better than the mess we've had since 2009. It's all over the place. Of course that's not to say any rebrand would be better but I'd be interested and can see it happening soon. Supporter survey?

Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
I’m not sure what we’d rebrand the logo to.
If we used the lion element it would be like Villas new one
If we used the bee, that’s Brentford
That just leaves the hand, the stork and the “chevron”
Unless it was something completely new and I can’t see that going down too well with supporters

I like it.
I have never liked our current badge. It looks flat, washed out and really cheap. The blue is too pale for me and the yellow is too ‘in your face’, when it’s a very small part of our colours. I would love a rebrand for Burnley.

Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
Maybe something like this?
Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
Me neither and I'm in favour as long as supporters are consulted. You'd hope Pace and his team wouldn't want to cock it up. I'd like to see fans asked for the three symbols from current and past crests they think are most important.

Something along those lines quite possibly. Personally I'd scrap the lion (generic) and replace it with a shuttle (unique). I like the hand too, stick that on top, couple of Lancashire roses on either side. Bob's your unc... actually let's just go back to the other one!

Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
Agree about consultation. I’m less convinced about the three symbols question (unless, for example, this is ultimately to select one).
The cleaner and less cluttered, the better, in my view.
Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
I think we could do with looking at a re-brand over the next year, if we haven’t started that process already (but I would say that given I work in brand design and teach graphic design). That doesn’t mean changing the badge - however that’s something I’d look at - but establishing a clear message that communicates to the ‘outside world’ as to what Burnley FC is about, in the hope of attracting more fans and increasing revenue. We have some good building blocks to work with, for instance founder members of the football league, known for honesty and hardwork but it’s about utilising this better….. And yes I know how we’re playing is the main factor in our popularity and to reach more fans. I think one of the best examples of this is Juventus.
Just a note that spending money on a rebrand shouldn’t be a vanity project or done to make things look more pretty but to improve something, in a football clubs case to attract more fans (and that includes local people who might go and support a bigger club) or improve fan experience etc. So ultimately it’s about increasing revenue and improving fan experience and interaction with the club.

Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
The old Juventus badge was one of the all time great badges for me. If our owners were to change our badge *cough cough independent football regulator cough cough* you can be sure it'll be done following the branding principles Juventus followed, which is essentially to reduce your logo to the most basic shape imaginable, a la the Nike swoosh. There will be absolutely no modernisation of the historic allegorical symbols in the badge, they will be yeeted altogether in the name of a clean presentation, otherwise it wouldn't be worth doing from a branding perspective.
A football club's brand is what it does on the pitch. The recognisability of a badge is relative to on-field success. Owners never seem to get that. They disregard history for the sake of what are mere pennies in the grand scheme of things.

I assume you’re using Juve as an example just because of their redesigned badge (which I like) and not including honesty in their list of qualities upon which they’ve furthered their brand?MrTechno wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 8:52 pmI think we could do with looking at a re-brand over the next year, if we haven’t started that process already (but I would say that given I work in brand design and teach graphic design). Re: Aston Villa rebrand their logo...
I’m defiantly not including Juve in terms of their honesty haha. That was in reference to some of our qualities we tend to be associated with. Juve’s was bringing their ‘brand’ into the modern era which was helped and entipified by their stadium move from the old and tired stadio del alpi (spl?) to their new stadium.

It was quite representative of our defensive brand of football under Dyche though. Time to ditch at least one of the shields and get on the front foot.MancunianClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 8:42 pmQuite like this. A shield within a shield always seemed a bit "off".
