Phil Bird commentary
Sorry if this has been covered before as I do not come on here often, but curious to know - does anyone else find Phil Bird's commentary unbearable?
I am not bothered by his completely biased comments - to be expected from a club commentator and he isn't nearly as bad as some other clubs.
It's more the complete lack of accuracy - misidentifying players, failing to see what has actually happened, unable to pronounce player names properly.
Interested to see how others feel - I had to mute today's game he was so awful.

He drives me mad when he says hook for a normal pass. Does it all the time. Also says drives a lot when a player is walking through.

He’s absolutely garbage.
Re: Phil Bird commentary
Awful, time he went , don’t know how he gets away with it.
Re: Phil Bird commentary
Any player that has the ball is teasing the player closest to them...
To be fair though, I can deal with Bird, the co commentators are usually the worst.

Re: Phil Bird commentary
Had to listen to the QPR comms today, and trust me - we could do a lot worse than Phil Bird.

Re: Phil Bird commentary
It’s painful. The biased comments **** me off just as much as the need to say teased, hooks or drives in every sentence. The worst ever was describing defours chip a few years ago as “hooks it forward.”

Re: Phil Bird commentary
You need to get a life if you are attacking someone who clearly wants us to win and may have a slightly too positive analysis. No commentators are perfect. He's better than average. He's more accurate than not and is happy to accept when he got something wrong.
Find something and someone else to moan about.
Edit: are instead of area.

Re: Phil Bird commentary
I enjoy Phil Bird. I understand that his passion for the club today, given the momentous story a victory today would have merited, was perhaps overbearing for some, and his role as commentator may have required additional degrees of objectivity. However, I my nail-biting emotions around the game felt aligned with his commentary.
Additionally, I always think of the following video when I think of Phil Bird. He is certainly one of us when it comes to love of Burnley, if not more.

Don't know how anyone can sit through 90 minutes of him really. He's obviously popular with some people though.

Re: Phil Bird commentary
Great on highlights of our goals, awful to sit and listen to for 90 minutes. Was even worse back in the days when you could only listen and not watch and he would claim every decision against Burnley was the wrong one.

Personally got nowt against the bloke, he’s obviously a huge fan and a passionate guy but I don’t really like his commentary. Even worse when Andy Hodgson is there.

I’ve no issue with the fella to be honest. However, I do wish he would remember that we are listening on radio so need more descriptive commentary.

Re: Phil Bird commentary
Back when it was audio only he still commentated as though it was a TV broadcast and you could see the action. I never had any idea of where the play he was describing occurred relative to the pitch - could’ve been on the edge of our box, could’ve been in their final third. Lost count of how many times something seemingly innocuous turned into a gilt edged chance for either team within a nanosecond .. wasn’t good for the nerves.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 6:19 pmGreat on highlights of our goals, awful to sit and listen to for 90 minutes. I have no problem at all with Phil Bird, he’s well above the average level for a club commentator. His co commentator today was good also.

Love Phil. Ex-pat in USA. Phil is far far Better than the ESPN commentator. As for biased I want biased and when we are poor he says so, just hasn’t had to do that a lot this year.

Re: Phil Bird commentary
Time’s up for Mr Bird. Completely out of his depth now under the new era as we try to move on from being a plucky town team towards being a respected, established top flight club.
He just doesn’t fit and his commentary is unfortunately cringeworthy.
I think he might be put out to pasture in the summer.

Another ex pat who likes Phils commentary.
Not looking forward to having Jim Beglin commentating again next year. Beglin is the worst EVER!
I would be happy with Phil every game. A pretty fair commentator for a Burnley fan.

Remember "lock down" and then no crowds at the Turf. I just loved seeing his reaction to our goals. Agree some of the complaining is unjustified IMO.

Re: Phil Bird commentary
Heard one claretsplayer commentary live, ever. Bird was just your average club commentator but the goon he was with was some bid up TV guy. I'll never listen to it again. Sounded like he'd won a day on comms from bid up TV.
Re: Phil Bird commentary
I listen to IPTV streams from both home and away teams. Phil is the best commentator in the league. His enthusiasm and passion comes across every match. Leave him alone.

I’m sure he’s a good guy but he needs moving on. Basically roulette who he knows is on the ball and every goal scored is “what a goal” but you’ll never know what happened. Get yourself retired to the stands like the rest of us, Phil.

Re: Phil Bird commentary
I’ve no wish for him to go but I would like some feedback to be taken on board so that he can improve. Just cutting out the word “hook” would be good. Repeating things immediately after just saying saying them. Every game wondering why Josh Cullen didn’t do well at West Ham. Should be easy enough to do
