Them down the road v Champions
Re: Them down the road v Champions
Surprised Harwood-Bellis isn't in if Beyer hasn't made it.
Do we think it's a version of
Muric
Roberts Al-Dakhil Taylor Maatsen
Cullen
Brownhill Gudmundsson
Vitinho Barnes Zaroury

I think that fact that there is a shedload of comments so soon after the line up was public suggests that this team selection has been a big surprise

Totally agree. He sounded rough on the presser and I thought it might just be the mic..

Beyer must be injured. Not that surprised that Harwood-Bellis has been dropped, I thought he struggled physically later in the game against QPR.

First, he sees all games as being equally important so it's not "a big game"Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 7:06 pmI would rather any of Foster, Benson, Obafemi started on the right. No idea what Kompany is doing in such a big game

Re: Them down the road v Champions
Okay.... Bit bewildered by that line up.
Re: Them down the road v Champions
I don’t get why people think it’s such a weakened team or a big surprise or bewildered? There’s just 2 players in there who didn’t start in the win at Boro. One is Taylor, who never lets us down, and the other is Vitinho, who we know Kompany likes for team shape…gone with Benson off the bench instead.

Come on Zaroury hasn't been poor, he's just not been brilliant.
He'll be on it tonight

Which of their players is going to be the first to try and flatten Barnes?!

Al-Dakhil has been playing well, pocketed Archer and Akpom. THB hasn’t looked back to full sharpness. Beyer is clearly unavailable. Ekdal is injured.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
VK certainly likes to keep us on edge. Don't really follow why we don't go all out to get this done then put out any team - providing it complies with the multiplicity of rules
COYC No choice but Mr Bird tonight never totally sure what's going on as he gets just as excitable whether we're attacking or defending. Might have to stick with this thread if my nerve tonic doesn't kick in.

Here we go
Re: Them down the road v Champions
Double substitution around 55 mins, almost guaranteed. Not our most goal-hungry team. Wear them down a bit, Benson and Jay with fresh legs. Need Zaroury to properly turn up today with his pre-world cup form.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
That can't be correct as we've never had this starting eleven before.
It may well be true that the eleven starters have 40 goals between them, but that's not the same thing.
I'll be only too happy to be proved wrong - of course.
Re: Them down the road v Champions
What's Obafemi's favoured position? Still not 100% sure. Anyone know?

Re: Them down the road v Champions
I know THB looked tired, but Taylor has hardly had any starts. Seems a strange decision. Benson has been playing really well and although he is a good option off the bench, he should be starting over Vitinho IMO. I would also think Corks experience and and ability to control the midfield would have been invaluable here.RVclaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 7:17 pmI don’t get why people think it’s such a weakened team or a big surprise or bewildered? our weakest line-up so far this season, and he does it at Deadwood. Bizarre.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
Don't want to see Brownhill in any wide position tonight.
Re: Them down the road v Champions
The over reactions from people on here…
Boils down to THB dropped due to a bad game and Vitinho in for Benson - who has had far more impact from the bench this season anyway.
Head. Wobble.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
If Beyer isn’t on the bench he’s 100% injured. Common sense lacking on this board.
Re: Them down the road v Champions
Taylor in for his experience… otherwise it’s THB and Al-Dakhil, very young and neither are physically dominant. I can see the logic there. Benson has been playing well, but Vitinho also did okay at Rotherham and has the fresher legs here.. and presses better than Benny. Cork yes, we know what he can do, but that Cullen/Brownhill/JBG trio has been consistent for a bit now. Let’s see how it plays out but we’ve got a very good bench to turn a game there.burnleymik wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 7:28 pmI know THB looked tired, but Taylor has hardly had any starts. The negativity on here is unreal at times.
Re: Them down the road v Champions
Not the line up I’d hoped for but we’ve enough quality starting to win this and certainly plenty of options from the bench.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
Benson and Cork to come on later with Brownhill moving forward likely, Barnes swapped for another striker, either JBG or Vitinho or both to be swapped so not to bad but scoring goals may be an issue as these have been harder to get recently. I was hoping Twine might be on the bench in case we got a free kick near the area.

Was pretty obvious really (to most).

VK says Bayer has foot injury and unable to walk this morning
Re: Them down the road v Champions
No negativity, just lost of surprise with Taylor and Vitinho starting rather than THB and Benson.

There we are from the horse’s mouth. Beyer injured foot and cannot walk. Taylor in for his experience. Al Dakhil nearest to Beyer in terms of speed

Erm. Just loads of people questioning Kompany’s judgement without even heard his explanation for the selection/absentees.
