Don’t think anyone works at the club at weekends during the summer, if it was ever true would get announced this week

There is a couple of reasons I can see us moving Brownhill on this summer.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 6:37 pmI think VK appreciates Bronwhills work rate and high press . It’s the quality on the ball that isn’t quite there for the Prem in his case. Find him the right role however and he’s a very useful player. I can’t see him leaving this summer .
We do need two new incomings capable of playing in central midfield though.
He’s only got year left on his contract, so if we want to make some money on him now is the time. Given he was one of the original premier league signings that are still at the club, I suspect his wages are probably one of the highest in the squads and the only way I can see him staying is he signs a new contract.
I am just not sure that suits the model the club are wanting.

Brownhill was excellent last season and there is no way we should want to get rid of him.

It’s not getting rid of him. It’s the model of the club. He’s 27 and probably at the peak of his value. If someone came in with good money, I also think we’d sell. But I don’t think someone will pay enough and he’ll sign a new deal.

Valid comments, but we do need to try our utmost to stay in the division. We can’t sell everyone who has a year left. We also need to keep some sort of cohesion at the club. The captain or vice depending how you look at it, will be crucial.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 8:11 pmThere is a couple of reasons I can see us moving Brownhill on this summer.

It is the model, but I dont think it's at the cost of pretty much the only player at the peak of his powers with premier league experience. In a key position. It would be lunacy to sell Brownhill.

I agree with you to an extent. But similarly to Muric I think VK sees this is a critical position to improve upon (the links to Lokonga, Flemming, Ruiz) tell me that midfield is an area he wants improvement.willsclarets wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 8:58 pmIt is the model, but I dont think it's at the cost of pretty much the only player at the peak of his powers with premier league experience. Undoubtedly we need more quality in the middle. I would hope despite having a great season, Gudmunsson and then also Bastien would be the casualties there. Brownhill is a leader, still a good age and seems an excellent character. You want better players pushing him for his position, but not at the expense of him in the squad when we have others who are closer to Championship level (imo) Still as you say money talks

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The biggest issue with Brownhill was highlighted again last season against PL opposition when we played at Old Trafford, gives the ball away far too easily high up the pitch leaving him out of position and the team vulnerable. Rashford scored from Brownhill easily surrendering possession.
It was an issue that plagued us consistently with him in a 442.

I certainly would be bothered to see Brownhill move on, he did have a last good season but I didn't think he was all that good in the PL and did cause problems leading to goals as I saw it. Obviously, I'd want to see someone else come in as I do think we're short and light in the part of the team Yet if he stays and VK thinks he's the right one, and maybe, just maybe it was a positional issue, then I'm going to be fine with that.

Saw signs of Brownhill maturing last season. I can live with Taylor, Rodriguez and Cork probably becoming less and less involved, but Brownhill can become the glue in this team. Not the most gifted but makes up with all round effort and exemplary attitude.May not start every game but a great team player

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Hopefully Brownhill signs a new contract and we look to move him on in the next year or two to maximise his value.
If we’re after freeing up a big wage in midfield then it should be Cork who goes.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I noticed Transfermarkt’s end of season evaluation jacked him up to £18m. I know that’s incredibly subjective but I can’t see his value ever being this high again. If he has a poor season it will doubtless drop and if he has a good season I can’t see it rising. I like Brownhill a lot but he is peak transfer material right now. Probably to Burnley Old Boys or Wet Spam I would imagine.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We've had a second bid of around £10 million turned down for Jack Clarke. We're still keen to get this one over the line.

Are Sunderland well backed? They seem to have spent a bit of money this summer for a championship club (relatively speaking). I don’t know much about their owners so don’t know if they have someone putting money in.
If not, then you would expect a sale this summer to help with their rebuild. Clarke or Stewart the obvious ones.

The Louis-Dreyfus family are absolutely super wealthy. Whether they're willing to spend some of that wealth on a NE football club is another question.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 9:35 amThink their majority shareholder is a French bloke Kyril Louis something, he's a few bob but dont think he's in the super-wealthy bracket.

Celtic have reportedly set out their demands for striker Kyogo Furuhashi - despite Brendan Rodgers comparing the Hoops star to former Liverpool and Barcelona striker Luis Suarez.
The Mirror have reported Rodgers could be willing to part with the Japan international if he receives an offer in excess of £16million.
