I am not too worried as I think our squad is good enough to get through the first few games.

However I will say your comparison is silly for two reasons. The championship as we discovered was a considerably lower level than the prem and there is a lot more games (so you have more chances to make up for a poor start).
I think by "silly" you mean "of limited value" or "inappropriate". "Silly" makes it sound like you're being abusive rather than politely disagreeing.

Last year we had 7 fixtures before the transfer deadline, this year only 3. Any anyway, the point was that 5 weeks isn't the deadline for good things to happen.

Let's hope we add a decent sell on percentage. I suspect his value will rise significantly above what we sell him for.

Absolutely agree. No reason he can’t reach Souttar levels who went for £15m.

Let’s hope we get a decent fee and a good sell on %.

Lots of talk on this thread about resale value for Trafford in the coming years, there is a chance that he fulfills his contract with us in full - becomes a hell of a player and we keep him for many years to come. I'm looking up not down!

Agree but remember, by our own admission, we’re playing moneyball now. Big returns on players within a season or two. I suspect we’ll sell Benson and Zaroury for example, for big money within the next thirteen months.

Yeah and I fully appreciate that's been the philosophy of the club for many years - it's kept us in the good financial position we're in. However there is still a chance we see continued success under Kompany and may not as a result have such a need to sell high and buy low. It's nice to dream :)

Just watched a YouTube video of him. He looks fantastic but my extensive scouting has concluded that we want him more as a defensive midfielder.

Once we really got our act together we were comfortably the best side in the Championship (some pundits even had us as one the best ever). And players can improve, they've had a year with VK.

Perhaps we are becoming a 'centre half factory', selling one a season, with the replacements already in house.

We also know that each place in the PL pays millions more so it may not be as cut and dried as that.

Keep good players for 2-3 years more, possibly get £30m-£40m more prize money over 3 seasons, then the player still has a resale value before their contract lapses. That could easily be the best policy.

Every player has a price of course, and may also want to go.

Mandatory fee. That’s certainly interesting. Got to trust VK with this one I think. He had next to no professional football and that’s a very good fee

Morning Newcastle-yes with you on this we need to trust VK. He must think Coulibaly is close to starting. He could be the next Chris Smalling playing for Maidstone, with Fulham and Man Utd seeing the potential in him. He's not done too badly since being spotted

Be interesting to see what the transfer fee is, total package £15mil so like how much is the loan fee is and if there’s add ons in the transfer fee

On the face of it Coulibaly seems a slightly odd one. 19, 2 senior games, centre back when we’ve got 4, loan, joint club record fee next summer (I take it this would only be payable if we stay up, can’t us committing to 15m if relegated but never know!).

But, I’m sure Vincent has a plan and hard not to be excited to see what it is. Potentially a Charlie Taylor replacement? (Back up left back and centre back)… Get him up to speed this season with the assumption we might cash in on the likes of Al-Dakhil / Beyer next summer?

‘Total package’ leaves something to interpretation but my take would be loan fee + transfer fee + bonuses. Even so you’d imagine he’s going to play a big part for that sort of money.

The key things I have read about him are that he is left footed, robust, strong, quick, young and considered to be a very good prospect. All positive factors. As has been said on here, we might see the team going 3 centre halves for a number of games which could suit us with the personnel we now have in these positions. Also since the end of the recent season, VK has made a point of addressing the physicality issue for the Prem, and we dont part with any serious money until next year, which of course could then be in installments.Clever business by the club

This is one I mentioned early this summer as a possible Tella replacement.

Diallo on loan and spend 15-20m on 1/2 other players or Tella for 15-20m.

Diallo had a few good games but to talk him up on those is a bit premature
If Sheffield United want to spend money let them
If we are getting Premier league loans, of which we are allowed 2 I would go for THB and Ian Maatsen
Nathan Tella need to be a permanent signing.
