I would hope that JBG, Jay and Muric are well in contention next season.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 4:26 pmSuspect favorites to go, probably some on loan are:
Bastian
Churlinov
McNally
Egan Riley
Dodson
Possibles
JBG-based on our signings
Cork
Muric
Rodriguez
I think we will keep Twine until the Jan window then possibly loan him out too, depending on game time he enjoyed in the first half of season. The wages if nothing else need to be reduced

Think it all depends on signing at least one other CM. If we do, Bastien won’t get a look in - injuries aside.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 4:30 pmBastien has apparently turned down a loan move to Kortrijk - surprised to be honest, he didn't really get game time in the Championship.

Just checked back. He started seven league games for us last season which included the first four. His only start after the Sheff U away game was against West Brom in January.ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 4:31 pmThink it all depends on signing at least one other CM. Only Cullen, Cork and Brownhill in front of him - thankfully most of the time, 2 of the 3 were available when we needed them.

Probably a busy week leading up to the game against Mainz.
Not dismissing the home game against City, but the free week due to the postponed Luton match will be vital to integrate any new signings.

I read somewhere, might have been on here, that his dream was to play in the premier league. This is probably his only chance and maybe it will harm his longer term career but if that’s the case then good for him.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 4:30 pmBastien has apparently turned down a loan move to Kortrijk - surprised to be honest, he didn't really get game time in the Championship.

Just been having a look at a youtube of Lokonga and he looks exactly what we need if we can get the best out of him.
Robust, speed of thought, good burst of speed and a real eye for a pass.

But with the number of players we have, he might find himself not getting one of the squad places. Unless some leave, that is going to happen.Bobzuruncle wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 5:22 pmI read somewhere, might have been on here, that his dream was to play in the premier league. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Yes, you only have to look at his limited game time last year at a lower level and then how many minutes he has played in this seasons pre-season (none?) to see where he is in the pecking order. VK has even played defenders in midfield before him this pre-season.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 5:40 pmBut with the number of players we have, he might find himself not getting one of the squad places. His dream might very well be to play in the PL but it won’t happen this season with us I don’t think.

I was going to post something similar. It was from Sacha Tavolieri I think that said he'd been offered on loan to Kortrijk to get some first team football. I've no idea which players will struggle to get game time next season but you would imagine he's likely to be one of them.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 5:51 pmI was going to post something similar. Bid in for Wilson Odobert, 18 year old striker.
Reading the article it says the bid has been accepted.

I tend to agree with the consensus that the chances of him playing next year are slim but right now he is contracted to a premier league team and that is the best chance he has of fulfilling his dream (if what I think I read is correct ) so to that I say good on you, you never know you know !TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 5:51 pmI was going to post something similar. Odobert visited Gawthorpe about a month ago along with his agent. Believe the club were showing him around and detailing the plan for how we would use him and improve him. Apparently their were a lot of clubs in for him and he went away to make a decision.

Haven’t a clue if there is anything in it, but didn’t the rules changes this year for Prem clubs allowing them to sign up to 3 players a year who wouldn’t normally qualify for work permits, so we should be covered from that perspective.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 7:13 pmThat would be interesting. It's not a full-on CM role, which is why I think it can work.
They don't need the ball playing skills of a proper midfielder, because they are essentially just an extra body who advances through the phases, but without anyone properly tracking them.
And their skill lies mainly in helping break down the opposition counter early, and keeping the pressure high.
I dont know if Beyer could do it.
But he certainly possesses the attributes to make it possible

This idea that circulates (only amongst Burnley fans) about the existence of footballers who could become proficient in more than once position on a football field is utterly ludicrous.
Posts that persist in promoting this farcical notion should be instantly removed lest the forum becomes a laughing stock amongst the broader football community.
